If anybody wants Fallout 2 before the new one comes out

I have it and its one of those discs where you just have to install in once and you don't need the disc to play anymore

So I could mail it someone and they could mail it to someone else and so on if people wanted

lemme know

Fallout 2 is my favorite game of all time.

Lots of bugs in those games though.

I still don't think it will be able to compare to Fallout 2.

Especially now that I am older and more than likely won't make the game my entire life for 1 month periods each time I play through.

It depends.

It's possible they brought back the child killing, but I doubt it.

Yeah 1 is also awesome.

It probably has a better story than 2 actually, there's just so much stuff to do in the second one.

For being such a simple type of game, Fallout 1 and 2 were the fucking heat for me. I've got a hardon just looking at the graphics and knowing the old Fallout style will (hopefully) be underneath.

Yeah, the first Fallout is solid, but covers a smaller area.

The second one has pretty much the same gameplay, but a bigger world and a lot more to do.

They're both worth a play-through if you've never tried them.

finally got 1 installed last night, and played about 30 minutes of it before i went to bed

it's a little confusing without reading the instruction manual, lol

I went around and knived up some rats for a while and tried reading through all the specs/perks before just going with a default build character to learn the game at first

i'll probably go reroll later

A couple of tips:

Definitely take Gifted, it's the most OP trait in the game. A few less skill points is a small price to pay for 7 extra attribute points. Skilled will make up for the lost skill points, but the reduction in perks makes it not nearly worth it IMO.

Big guns aren't that useful in Fallout 1 (Fallout 2 however 2 of my favorite guns are Big guns). Small guns are useful throughout the whole game, so if you are a more "diplomatic" type guy, that should be all you need. The best weapon in FO1 is an energy weapon, but you won't encounter any until past the midpoint in the game, so if you want them you can take Energy weapons with a Tag! perk.

NO MATTER WHAT (unless you have played the game before and want to to a RP build) put 10 points in Agility. It's the most important stat in the game. 10 action points is crucial. Also, HAVE AT LEAST 10 points in INT. If you don't then you will be retarded (literally), every dialog will change, and you will miss out on most of the quests.

NEVER give your NPC companions automatic weapons in Fallout 1. EVER.

Generally very positive preview, however, there was a comment in there that made my heart sink a little,

Quote :
"In fact, Fallout 3 is very much Oblivion in a post-apocalyptic world."

I hope he's just saying that to dumb things down for all the console kiddies who've never played a Fallout game, because Oblivion dressed up in Fallout's skin would be a disaster

Yeah it would. Oblivion I think has too many flaws to be considered a great game.

Chief among them the world feeling like it was stretched WAY too fucking thin to compensate for scope and scale. So you get the 100th elven ruins or dungeon, oblivion wasteland/gate, or the millionth time you hear the same voice actor in a city repeating the same lines. Secondly, the level scaling and loot system was pure shite. You never really felt that RPG hook - feeling like your character progresses and becomes stronger as relative to their environment. It was all arbitrary...you could take on an oblivion gate right at the beginning and arguably it would make it easier. Stupid. That game was less of an RPG and more of a moving illusion dressed up with a decent story.

^^ they have been saying that for a while now, but from what I've seen I doubt that it will turn out as oblivion masked. It better fucking not be.

Damn, Actually I meant to say 4 points, but yes, you are seriously retarded, and all of your dialog choices are something like "Chosen one want save town" and the villagers are like "Uhhh, thanks, but I think we will go with someone else"

This was one major problem I had with Oblivion.

When I played on the PC, I took the time to go through every side quest I could find, master every guild, before I even looked at the first gate. So by the time I got to it, the monsters were so friggin hard I couldn't really get anywhere in the game.

If I'm going to spend 60-80 hours powering up my character and completing sidequests, don't penalize me for it.

After all the good things I hear about Fallout 2 I'm thinking about giving it a shot. I'm just thinking that it would only be fun for people that played it when it came out. From the perspective of someone that has never played the first minute of any Fallout game and after looking at some gameplay videos on youtube it looks like it would be hard to get into because the game is now severely dated.

Diablo for example. It was a great game when it first came out. Now, several years later, there are other similar games that are much better. Only someone that played the game and got endeared to it when it first came out could enjoy it today, everyone else would probably just skip it and play one of the newer, better games.

So, long explanation for a simple question. Is Fallout 2 something that people could pick up and play today, having no history with the series, or is it dated enough to the point where a newcomer would just get bored with it quickly and opt for a newer game that followed the same format?

it's kind of a moot point because there aren't any games that really "follow the same format"

Ok. Is it fun enough early on in the game to not be completely turned off by it being so dated. I.e. the commentary I hear about several games "it gets fun after you get into it". The fun factor doesn't show through too well on the youtube videos.

Zork was awesome, but no one under 20 is going to play it.

I don't think anyone can really answer that for you, since it's going to be so player-dependent...

I mean, I played through both of them again last year, but they had the nostalgia factor going for them. I still think the combat's fun, and the interface doesn't get in the way. The graphics are the most obviously dated part of the whole thing, but I don't really care about graphic quality in games that much anyway.

I totally agree with you. I would much rather have an ok looking game with fantastic gameplay, but unfortunately most game developers don't feel that way

It uses the same engine as Oblivion I think, so that should give you a rough idea of performance.
