gonna bring beksinski back from page one...like all of his stuff before he got into digital art.

the story of how he got into art is pretty fucked up as well. he didnt do art till a near-death experience, and most, if not all of his paintings were images of hell that stuck in his head from the experience (as far as i can remember).

Ralph Steadman, though I couldn't find any really good examples online. So here's me at a Steadman exhibition in Boston.

I'm surprised at the caliber of the art being discussed here

and there's very little fantasy art, too

its like you kids finally took some art history classes and found that you like modern stuff
so this is like a group of college kids and not a bunch of pretentious comic shop nerds

good for you

ditto.

art is generally beyond me. I can't look at a piece and interpret nuances like some can. I simply know what I like, and what I do not.

Right. I mean, I can pick up the basics of composition and general mood, but I'm more like a novice wine drinker than a sommelier.

Hidden Van Gogh revealed in color by scientists

Quote :
"AMSTERDAM (Reuters Life!) - Scientists have made a colored view of an early rejected painting underneath Vincent van Gogh's 'Patch of Grass' painting, using advanced X-ray techniques, a Dutch university said on Wednesday. "

That's awesome.

Luc Nadeau has some awesome stuff.

I can't find the one I bought when I was in Montreal, but here's a cool one and a site to look at some others...

punchmonk and i saw this at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh a few years back. happened across it on youtube today. one of my favorite works of art EVER. he's doing successive charcoal drawings on the same sheet of paper and making a movie, frame at a time. AWESOME.
