8/11/2007 10:06:42 PM
"move"lol
8/12/2007 8:26:29 AM
Looks like they got DVD playback on modded Wiis now. So at least that's one more potentially semi-legitimate (although probably not very legal) reason to have your Wii modded.http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=19907]
8/19/2007 3:00:17 PM
You gotta switch disks and stuff...lot of work to do to watch movies in 480p.
8/19/2007 3:05:48 PM
anyone here get tiger woods '08 backup working? my video resolution is stretched vertically and looks horrible.

10/1/2007 11:59:51 AM
who doesn't wish the wii had stayed in development for 7 extra days so they could have coded the software for hardware that's already present?
10/1/2007 12:19:48 PM
dvd playback would've raised the cost of the console because of 1)the licensing fees and 2)the fact that the wii's disc drive wasn't designed to constantly read/stream the amount of data that dvd playback requires and would have to be replaced with a heartier model
10/1/2007 12:24:27 PM
I modded my console to play DVDsis the newI modded my console to play imports/backups

I am looking to have my wii modded. two questions:1) which is the best chip? I am looking at the cyclowiz or the wiikey. Seems from my reading that the cyclowiz might be the better option. But I would love to see what others think.2) I can't solder for shit. Is there anyone on here that would be willing to do this for me for a fee? If so, PM me and let me know what the deal is.
12/2/2007 9:45:09 AM
^same here. i would like modding help also.
12/2/2007 11:39:01 AM
i'm not sure if wii modchips are being allowed into the US anymore. I remember that they were going around and pwn ppl with them a few months back. I have a wiikey and am pretty happy with it. I've heard rly good things about Cyclowiz though. Check wiinewz.com.
12/3/2007 11:46:46 AM
i don't think you can get the cyclowiz v2 anymore...pretty sure the wiikey is still available, thoughEDIT: wiikey is $18 + $17 shipping at http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/product.php?productid=12$20 here, but i can't find shipping cost: http://www.foundmy.com/oscom/product_info.php?products_id=221and they ship in the states...for now, at least[Edited on December 3, 2007 at 3:40 PM. ok, wiikey it is.anyone willing to do an install? I know some of you guys are good with the iron. I am sure we can work something out.
12/3/2007 3:47:47 PM
bumpI know some of you guys that have installed a wiikey could use some extra cash for the holidays. I need someone to install a wiikey on a D2B chip (legs still there). Is anyone down?Beuller?
12/13/2007 2:40:47 PM
man up and do it yourself, it's relatively easy.I'd offer some help but I'm in Charlotte.
12/13/2007 4:35:44 PM
never soldered anything in my life. I don't want to man up and burn a hole into a $250 item. if it was something else, I would. but you know how it is.
12/13/2007 6:00:15 PM
practice on spare components.
12/14/2007 8:22:28 AM
its actually not that badive never soldered anything that small before, but i got 5 of the 6 wires in until my wire cutters froze up and i ripped the brass out of the board.it sucked. luckily it was the spare wire just for the hack and it had nothing to do with the actual gaming.
12/14/2007 8:38:21 AM
I think I would be ok doing it to the pad points, however, I am pretty sure that I will have to solder onto one of the legs because one of the points is missing. That is the one I am worried about.
12/14/2007 10:51:07 AM
use flux, it helps
12/14/2007 11:12:07 AM
does anybody know anything about when argon chips will ship or have you worked with a dc2key?[Edited on December 23, 2007 at 5:09 PM. Reason : answered q#1, one left]
12/23/2007 4:54:21 PM
i find it hard to believe this explosive guy is offering to pay someone to solder something and no one helped him
12/23/2007 5:00:02 PM
no one offered. I was shocked. And to be honest, someone should have because it would have been easy money. I finally just cracked it open and did it myself. Turns out I had a D2B chip with the legs (and pad3) intact so it was a simple 6 wire install on the wiikey. Updated to fw 1.9gBeta and it all works like a charm.
12/24/2007 10:11:09 PM

you know, some of us do have little cousins/siblings that don't know how to properly care for discs, but enjoy the Wii all the same....
12/26/2007 9:48:38 AM
have any of you had the D2C chipset, and been forced to purchase a different wiikey than you had already bought?
12/26/2007 3:43:06 PM
having been inside the wii and knowing how many wires and where they need to be soldered, there is NO WAY ON EARTH I would even attempt it. Then again, I am am soldering puss. But man, those points are TINY.
12/26/2007 10:51:36 PM
it's only 5 points and only 3 of them are even remotely tricky. Easiest mod I've ever done on a console.
12/27/2007 1:16:03 AM
Did you do it on a newer Wii (with the new chipset)?I'm hearing that not only is it more difficult, but it requires different updates?
12/27/2007 8:23:14 AM
12/27/2007 9:46:22 AM
ugh, of course the modchip for the d2c chipset is $45 (and a lot harder to solder) while the one for all other consoles is just $17guess I shouldn't have waited on getting one of these
