BYRD JOINS THE SLIM SALLEE FAN CLUBPaul Byrd's win total in Cleveland this year: four.Paul Byrd's walk total in Cleveland this year: three. In other words, this man has more wins than walks this year. Now, obviously, he has a few more innings to pitch before he can say he did that for a whole season. But if he does ...The last starting pitcher to have more wins than walks in a season in which he won in double figures was Bret Saberhagen (14 wins, 13 walks) in 1994. But that was the year the strike pulled the plug in August. So the last starter to accomplish this feat in a full season was noted strike-tossing machine Slim Sallee (21 wins, 20 walks) in 1919.And how does Byrd explain this assault on Slim Sallee?"I give up so many hits," he told the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes, "I'm afraid to give up walks."

Thats a good point. The forces of media hype don't always previal, just most of the time.
6/17/2007 12:51:29 PM
Great performance by Lee last night. If we're going to make the playoffs, we need more than just CC/Fausto to pitch well. The tigers still scare me because they can smack the crap out of the ball and will probably get rid of Todd Jones since he's been god awful and almost blew a game against the freaking Nationals last night. We may need another piece in the bullpen too. Besides Betancourt, there really isn't anyone you can depend on. Hernandez hasn't looked that great, Borowoski has converted most saves, but still has a shitty ERA. Fultz is decent, but never gets used, Miller is coming off missing an entire year, plus Cabera hasn't bounced back like I thought he would. Also, Gutierrez is really starting to shine. We need to do something with Nixon and let him become the regular right fielder.
6/19/2007 1:35:00 PM
yea our pitching has been shakey. especially away from home. Im more worried about what happens when the tribe leaves the jake.
6/19/2007 1:52:21 PM
I would love to see the tribe try to fix the void in the offense that is the platooning of nixolucci. If the reds are interested in trading Dunn, I'd take him if he would give us a 5 year contract with the trade.
6/19/2007 3:10:52 PM
whats Stanford gonna do tonight? They say it'll probably be his last game in the rotation regardless
6/19/2007 3:17:47 PM
been a while, but some good news:Indians won last night and the Tigers lost, so that puts the tribe 0.5 games back in the centralThe Tribe is up by 4 games on the Mariners in the wildcard raceand the best news, Kenny Lofton is back in an Indians uniform
7/28/2007 8:04:33 AM
cliff lee also got optioned to buffalothank god because he always looked unprepared and after he and v-mart had the altercation during the rangers series the team seemed to resent him
7/28/2007 11:37:07 AM
oh i bought a customized navy vaughn "99" jersey yesterday too
7/28/2007 11:38:23 AM
well, we've now lost 7 of 9 at home, probably .5 games up on Seattle and up 2 up on the Yanks after the night's done in the WC race. good thing we resigned Wedge. We have to be the least disciplined team in the league. We've had like 78 K's in a 9 game homestead. That's awful. No one makes adjustments at the plate and everyone is trying to jack one into lake erie.Words don't describe how pissed off I am right now.....maybe a thread bump will get us going again.please? when CC and Fausto lose we are pretty much toast. Then back end of our starting rotation just does not win games...

SHOULD'VE LEFT BOROWSKI IN ANOTHER INNING
8/2/2007 1:17:36 AM
hey guys, my cousin, ryan garko is up for the pepsi clutch performer of the month, so if you wanna help sway this vote a little bit his way im sure hed appreciate it... thanks http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/mlb/fan_forum/pepsi/2007/clutch_performer.jsp
8/2/2007 1:56:39 AM
they have grady DHing today and kenny lofton leading off. Why would you DH grady when the guy can win so many games with his defense and their are like 4 DH's on our team?nm right when i get ready to post this grady drives in kenny
8/2/2007 1:40:09 PM
^yeah you'd think they might at least put either Grady or Kenny in CF and put the other in either LF or RF to use their defensive speed
8/2/2007 2:22:49 PM
its about damn time Grady K's too much to be a leadoff hitter
8/2/2007 2:31:21 PM
Can't wait to see what Laffey can do in the metrodome today. He's been killing it in AAA and since Shapirio didnt make a deal to get a 4th starter or bullpen help we really need some of these prospects to pan out.

9/12/2007 12:07:50 AM
any of you guys want to get together somewhere and watch some of the playoff games? It would be nice to have a crowd of tribe fans around when we make our run to the WS

What a fun season its been. I almost had forgotten how great baseball playoff time is!
9/19/2007 11:28:24 PM
Haha last time the Indians were in the playoffs Ricky Vaughn was pitching and Willie Mays Hayes was leading off and stealing bases. GG on the year though. I really like your manager Eric Wedge.

or you could try 2001or before that the mid-to-late 90seither way, call me a homer if you want but, I think the Tribe is gonna win it all this year. Id be down to watch some games as well. Hopefully we can keep up the hot streak and win the right to choose how they want to play out the divisional series...it would be really nice to have CC and Fausto each going twice in a 5 game series.

Good luck Tribe, and congrats on the Central. We'll see you on the 4th!! Wang vs. C.C. is going to be a great duel.
9/30/2007 10:33:59 PM
I'm getting really pumped up for this playoff runWe have superior pitching and we have to hope that is pays off vs the yankees. I dont agree with Westbrook getting the game 3 start over Byrd. He proved himself over the season and should be rewarded with the start over jake who was on the dl, then pitched horribly, and finally got it together right at the end of the season.GO TRIBE
