^It's pretty fun. It's just as challenging as fantasy football. You have to constantly monitor your lineup. Also makes you more aware of what's going on around the league.
4/2/2007 12:23:11 PM
yeah that's what i'm worried about...sounds like watching the stock marketi can barely keep up with the fantasy football
4/2/2007 12:25:30 PM
its quite in depth...i was going through the different stat splits and everything...waaaaay too much data on these guys...and its a looooooooong season...should be fun though!
4/2/2007 12:32:56 PM
looks like Yahoo! updated their shit
4/2/2007 1:12:10 PM
Yeah, I saw. I'm glad I got credit last night, except for Carpenter's stats which were not Cy Young-esque, but it's all good.[Edited on April 2, 2007 at 2:34 PM. Reason : I need a Halladay.]

^^^ Fantasy baseball can be challenging if you get too deep into all of the statistics. Honestly if you just focus on OPS for hitters and WHIP for pitchers you'll be able to make decisions on players much quicker. The higher the OPS and the lower the WHIP the better. I never touch players with less than an 800 OPS unless they have a ton of speed and SBs. I usually avoid pitchers with WHIP greater than 1.4. It depends on what your league scoring system is, but if nothing else, OPS and WHIP provide a simple one stat ways to scan the FA lists.
4/2/2007 4:29:48 PM
our league is fairly simple for scoring...head to head...AVG, HR, RBI, SB, R...and ERA, W, SV, K, WHIPTom Gordon and Mike Gonzalez each had 1 scoreless inning with 2 Ks a piece for relievers today...Sabathia had 6 innings and a 4.50 ERA but he did get the win...I have Johan and Bedard both tonight haha should get 1 win...Turnbow didnt play...I have Mussina and Lilly later this week...but my dumbass also had John Patterson and his 14.73 ERAbtw we play 9 pitchers at a time haha
4/2/2007 5:14:19 PM
^ Almost all of the leagues I play in, we start between 7-9 pitchers. It can get excessive, but when young pitchers come out of nowhere kind of like Dontrelle a few years back or Johan or Liraino last year, it can make a big impact because the FA list is so shallow.I like having guys like Scot Shields, Zumaya, Mike Gonzalez on my team because even though they may not get a bunch of save opps, they will have good ERAs, awesome K/9, great WHIPs, and will pick up a win here and there. They don't really hurt your team unless you are playing them over a decent starting pitcher.[Edited on April 2, 2007 at 5:21 PM. Reason : v]
4/2/2007 5:20:38 PM
yeah im gonna probably sit on my pitchers and see how it goes, but im wondering if i should go apeshit on the waiver wire to get Wins, Saves and Strikeouts at the expense of ERA and WHIP, since its a week-to-week head-to-head league...we'll see
4/2/2007 5:27:24 PM
^ saves are hard to get off the waiver waire unless someone gets hurt. Also that strategy normally does not work well because the guys with shitty WHIPs and ERAs aren't getting wins and are not picking up many SOs either. I tried that once coming down the stretch and picked up shit holes like Kip Wells and Kyle Lohse in order to pad the wins and SOs and innings cats and all it relly did wa ruin my WHIP, K/9 and ERA.
4/2/2007 5:57:17 PM
I'm up 7-2-1 going into today's games...i'm liking my squad so far
4/3/2007 4:27:01 PM
in my opinion threads like this are generally uselesswithout knowing the full context of the league and the teams involved, most commentary and advice isn't good for shitthat being saidmaglio, prince fielder, and carlos zambrano for david ortiz in a standard 5x5 roto leagueyour thoughts?
4/4/2007 11:29:08 AM
I think whoever gives up Ortiz in that trade makes out pretty damn good
4/4/2007 12:59:57 PM
indeed
4/4/2007 3:29:15 PM
Combined, Ordonez and Fielder should offset Ortiz. Especially if Mags say healthy. I'd go with the trade, if you can afford clearing some room. It's like getting Zambrano for free
4/4/2007 4:55:28 PM
also depends how your team looks at OF and 1B before and after
4/4/2007 5:12:26 PM
I take that trade in a heartbeat if I was giving up Ortiz. The only thing I don't like is that you'll have to dump two other players for roster space and that could be a problem.
4/4/2007 5:46:58 PM
yeah i was the one giving up ortizi dropped nick johnson and jorge cantui think i win
4/4/2007 5:59:30 PM
I'm off to one of the worst starts ever. My 2 best pitchers, Carpenter and Kazmir, both gave up 5 ER in their openers, Carp is going to miss his next start, and Ramon Hernandez hasn't swung a bat yet
4/5/2007 11:39:53 AM
Blue Jays-Tigers game PPD. You can still sub out players.
4/5/2007 12:24:14 PM
greatverlander was starting
4/5/2007 12:25:11 PM
Got this trade offer:I'll be getting:Dan UgglaScott RolenMoisés AlouJason SchmidtAnibal SánchezI'll be giving up:Paul KonerkoÁlex RodríguezRobinson CanóTim HudsonPersonally, I'm leaning towards rejecting it, but I wanted to see what you all thought first.
4/5/2007 3:41:15 PM
are you fucking seriousthat is a HORRIBLE tradeno way would i even consider that-- uggla is a second-year player (for the MARLINS), scott rolen might play 100 games, alou will be a fourth outfielder by the all-star break, and anibal sanchez is mediocre at bestand you'd be giving up a-rod (one of the top 2-3 offensive producers in baseball), konerko (a better offensive option than any of the guys you'd receive, cano (who will score a lot of runs if nothing else), and hudson (who was lights out last night and should have a huge turn around from last year)reject that shit[Edited on April 5, 2007 at 3:45 PM. 4/5/2007 3:41:59 PM
^Thanks. I thought you all would want to see how bad this was in the first place.
4/5/2007 3:42:45 PM
what do you guys think of the strategy for pitchers of essentially dropping all but the few best every day just to get starters...aka you should hypothetically get more strikeouts and wins, but probably at the expense of era and whip...depends on your opponent that week?
4/6/2007 1:54:34 PM
so you're saying just throw in a bunch of shitty starters every day to rack up wins and Ks?sounds stupid, shitty starters usually won't last past five innings, if they even make it that faryou can't get a win if you don't get pitch five inningsthey probably aren't going to be racking up strikeouts either
4/6/2007 3:25:46 PM
40 shitty starters in one week will rack up more strikeouts than 5 good starters
4/6/2007 3:27:07 PM
well if your only pitching stat is Ks then your plan is foolproofgo for it
4/6/2007 3:28:52 PM
well i'm also pretty sure most starting pitchers get a win here and there over the season
4/6/2007 3:32:42 PM
look manyou can stick a bunch of scrubs in there who might win a combined average of 12 or 13 all seasonor you stick with a stud who will win you 19 or 20 and have better peripheralsyour theory just sounds stupid
4/6/2007 3:35:02 PM
i'll make sure to tell the guy who won his league last year by using that theory that you think its stupid
4/6/2007 3:36:04 PM
ok!
4/6/2007 3:36:34 PM
it would help if you at least understood the theory though...since i'm obviously not talking about dropping Santana and Sabathia
4/6/2007 3:38:51 PM
Twista. I know what you are talking about. I won my fantasy basketball league by doing exactly what you are talking about. I saved a few spots near the end of the NBA season, (1 1/2 months) to just plug and play.Just make sure you dont have a max games played limit for positions.Ernie, quit being a dick.
4/6/2007 3:40:48 PM
we dont have max gamesand hopefully that same strategy will help me beat skankinande in our basketball playoffs this week! its 6-6 right now
4/6/2007 3:42:24 PM
i wasn't being a dicki was explaining why i thought it was a bad ideatreetwista is an admitted novice at fantasy baseball -- i have a lot of experiencei gave valid points, he was an ass, and his only counter was, "well i know a guy"i still think it's dumb
4/6/2007 3:47:30 PM
who was an ass?you incorrectly assumed from the get-go that i would drop all my pitchersyou dont even understand what we're talking about
4/6/2007 3:48:18 PM
no i understandi've seen itit doesn't work in baseballgo aheadgood luck
4/6/2007 3:50:40 PM
it doesnt work in baseball?except for the guy i knowmy bad...you're the best fantasy expert ever thats why you work for Yahoo![Edited on April 6, 2007 at 3:51 PM. Reason : .]
4/6/2007 3:51:34 PM
look i'm not trying to be an assbut it's pretty apparent that you can't carry out a legitimate conversation without resorting to name calling and sarcasmi do not like your friend's theoryi have seen others try it, i have tried it myself sure it can work -- in the long run, though, you will losei am no expert, but i have played fantasy baseball for a long timeyou have notyou take my advice or you can leave, i don't carethis isn't a contest -- you asked for advice, i gave you something you didn't want to hear, you acted like a twati'm sorry i do not agree with your friend[Edited on April 6, 2007 at 3:58 PM. this isn't the first time i've tried to present the other side to your argumentand this isn't the first time you've just disagreed without reasonand this isn't the first time you've acted like a 12 year old in doing soi'm done arguing on the internet now, though
4/6/2007 5:01:11 PM
i guess if you're really really vague, nobody can accuse you of being wrong, since they dont know wtf you're even talking about
4/6/2007 5:03:38 PM
speaking of twats and asses, i wish david ortiz would stop playing like one
4/6/2007 5:09:06 PM
how bout pujols alsocourse i'm pretty sure he'll turn it around
4/6/2007 5:16:12 PM
hafner's sucking balls so far too, so together my first 2 picks are like 4 for 28 combined with no homers
4/6/2007 5:19:30 PM
yeah Ortiz, Howard, Pujols, Hafner, and many more top hitters are all struggling so far this seasoncould be a good time to try and work a trade to acquire one of the top tier players for some second or third tier players who are starting the season off on fire
4/6/2007 5:24:54 PM
trueHEY I'LL TRADE YOU LO DUCA FOR PUJOLS
4/6/2007 5:26:55 PM
I didnt realize that Lo Duca was a second or third tier playeror that he is on fire
4/6/2007 6:39:25 PM
i mean who would that include right now? sizemore maybe? although i heard on baseball tonight that he's a potential mvp candidateplus my highest rated offensive player is russell martin around 30th or so, so i don't think that strategy will work too well for me[Edited on April 6, 2007 at 9:15 PM.
