^^i would normally agree with you. but the nyc system is gigantic and thus can support such a specific role. i'm sure they already have spanish language schools. i mean i know raleigh does.[Edited on February 13, 2007 at 5:27 PM. Reason : .]

just as a side note Charlotte Latin is in no way dedicated to teaching Latin language or culture...it's just the name for some reason
2/13/2007 5:29:57 PM
holy crap this thread got stupid.now we already know its being funded by Bill Gates and apparently free and teaches students so the "OMG MY MONEY" argument is out because that is what schools do. Also if a school teaches kids what they need to know as well as setting them up for careers in international relations and teaching them a language fluently I don't see how that is a misappropriation of funds. And public schools do a horrible job of teaching language to its students. If they did it well we all would know spanish.also theres a French Immersion k-12 school in cary.[Edited on February 13, 2007 at 5:32 PM. Reason : !!]

Thats fine if you think that but this thread was not started because of that.[Edited on February 13, 2007 at 5:34 PM. ^^it is funny that you are doing what you criticized me for and you have no idea^ok, but since its a public school, how the public funds are spent is certainly relevant[Edited on February 13, 2007 at 5:35 PM. 2/13/2007 5:42:41 PM
when did Christianity get a language and an ethnic group?
2/13/2007 5:44:06 PM
^^^if i'm so wrong and you're so right how can i "trap" you in anything?the problem with a lot of you guys is instead of addressing an argument and someone's point of view, you like to label that person's arguments...just categorize an argument...dont focus on the substance, just pitch a fit because you dont like how i go about presenting my ideas^^EXACTLYnobody else will acknowledge that though and they'll make a bunch of excuses like how the arabic school has nothing to do with islam, even though it has people immersed in the arabic culture[Edited on February 13, 2007 at 5:44 PM. 2/13/2007 5:44:20 PM
Is Christian a language? Bad comparison. Also, there are non-Muslim Arabs. Arab=ethnicity. Islam=relgion. There's a Christian Arab teaching here at NC State, Dr. Khater. Are all Irish people Catholic?[Edited on February 13, 2007 at 5:46 PM. Reason : .]

2/13/2007 5:47:02 PM
2/13/2007 5:49:19 PM
i'll bet you if you go to school at the arabic school you will learn plenty about islamsince its a big part of the arabic culture you will be immersed in
2/13/2007 5:50:24 PM
probably more than your standard public school student, sure. i don't see this as a bad thing.
2/13/2007 5:53:19 PM
I'm still not sure why this is such a big fuss. New York has already done this with other languages such as Spanish, French, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese. The schools are open as MAGNET schools, meaning that they're voluntary... its not like the government is forcing these kids to go there. I'm not sure how popular the Arabic program will be, but I know the Chinese one is really popular.Geopolitics aside, Arabic is spoken by over three hundred million individuals, so its a hard language to ignore from size alone. To put it in perspective, French is only spoken by about one hundred eighty million or so.That being said, I am surprised that it will be a 6-12 program. Most of these sorts of immersion schools are typically elementary and middle school affairs. You'd think they'd start with an elementary school first and scale up, since little children's minds are a bit more malliable when it comes to language.[Edited on February 13, 2007 at 5:55 PM. the difference is, at this school in the USA, students would be taught about the arabic culture...at an american school in Iran, students would be taught to hate americans and that god would reward them for killing americans
