NC State: 1979A world record tribute to consumption was erected Wednesday afternoon in Harris Field when the sudsy sisters of Sigma Kappa built a pyramid comprised of 140 kegs, representing 2,170 gallons of drained brew.[Edited on April 24, 2007 at 2:03 PM. Reason : format]

wooohooo. my 3 month old+ thread made it to 3 pages.

yeah talk about wild. you should hear the stories of what people used to be able to do here in the 70's abd 80's.
4/24/2007 4:20:24 PM
that keg pyramid was built with empty kegs. 70 of them were bought empty and supplied by a single fraternity. Yes I was here during the Rivers days. I went to the Gator bowl, Car care bowl, and the Tangerine bowl as well as the 92 Peach Bowl. I don't post every 10 minutes. I have set up and run a tailgate the size most of you haven't. I put on a 350 person tailgate we had the entire last row by the pond roped off and a 30 by 50 foot tent set up. Everyone can complain about the lack of time they have and why they should have more I will continue my statement of 4 hours is enough. If you want to cook a pig then get up and throw it on early in the morning. NO one will be at the fair grounds at 6am for a noon game. Your arguement only works when the game is a 3pm or 7pm game. I agree that it the new rules do suck. If I was you I would bypass NCSU and concentrate on the State fair gounds. They have the final decision on what time the lots open and what the regulations on tailgating are there.
4/24/2007 4:51:12 PM
^First off, the other lots are affected, not just the fairgrounds lot.

4/24/2007 11:31:52 PM
Go ahead and keep fighting then Ewalk. Good luck and I hope you get all of these regulations removed and done away with. It seems like you have a answer for every question I can throw at you so you should have no trouble in Getting Jim to change the rules around then shouldn't you. By the way those kegs were not drank at football games it was a spring fundraisers that the Sigma Kappa's did if you look closely you can see the date of Feb 14 1979.

Its fine, good luck with getting the rules changed. maybe a well written letter from a student body president and other students to ESPN describing the conditions before the new rules and after the new rules might help. If all the letters were professionally written they might come do a story about it? Think big when you try to cause change.
4/25/2007 9:14:11 AM
you act like you are an expert.
4/25/2007 9:14:54 AM
nope no clue on how to get things done. If you had a couple of million dollars laying around to donate they would listen thats about the only thing I can think of. I was simply offering a idea those can't hurt.

^x2 I've camped out overnight to cook pigs the past couple years. It's the one situation where they'll let you set up early/the night before. Cops patrol a lot, but if you're not being jackasses, they're pretty cool. ^^Know the actual details of the subject matter before you get on a high horse and start lecturing everyone else. And yes, I've put on a 200+ tailgate before too, with a corporate sponsor.
4/25/2007 10:28:06 AM
Well its not the actual NCSU cops or RPD that partol its the stupid Fair grounds cops. I do know what I am talking about, Yeah you have seen sevearl groups doing it i would say there is no more than 200 people that camp out over night for a tailgate compared to the 56,000 fans that go to the game. Thats a huge number. I know just as many facts as the rest of the people on this site. I see that maybe 6 people have admited to camping over night before a game. If there isn't a large push for something then it will not happen simple numbers. I have also started cooking a pig the night before a game and then brought it out to finish it up at the game. The pig tasted the same. My sauce is never weak and it is some of the best around.

I agree. We shall see. Let'sTAILGATE!
4/25/2007 10:40:07 PM
I have heard at some schools for large games that the campuses (for on campus stadiums) are so packed with tailgaters by Friday that classes have been cancelled. And I don't mean tailgater as in students.. but RV's, etc. That's serious stuff. Even in down years, these programs still have that kind of support. I'm not sure how to get State supporters to be as avid as these other schools but my point is that there is obviously not a 4 hr limit on tailgating at those places. Not that a time limit will keep anyone from drinking/getting drunk or shooting people. Maybe more people will just be drunk driving on their way to the game instead of hanging out there tailgating.

^well said

Yeah thats the best defense we have against these inhuman restrictions. Make it out to be a $$ deal and enough of the powers that be could possibly be swayed. It certainly is believable that a strong tailgate community lends to stronger football contributions, especially in down seasons when the only reason we may have to show up is to tailgate before we get crushed by our opponents (oddly reminiscent of '04 and '06)... I know im not the only one in here who remembers what that felt like....

This alumni supports the students.Sadly, I'm not one of the ones that gives millions to the WPC.
4/26/2007 11:34:42 AM
^Yeha thats the sad truth about it. This alumni can barely afford his lifetime rights seats and they STILL jack up the rates every year! What happens when all the old crones who give the big bucks keel over? They better start pandering to their younger inheritors (who I bet love a wild tailgate), else that yearly $$ goes byebye when they croak!
4/26/2007 11:45:34 AM
jumping jesus in a sidecari posted that picture to show the more relaxed attitude towards alcohol in our parents' youth and was only there to be glanced atit doesn't have to do with anything regarding if they were full or not...can you imagine some student group having a fundraiser on campus with a focused alcohol theme these days?
4/26/2007 11:50:48 AM
^ yeah plenty of puking , pregnancies, and pong
4/26/2007 12:02:29 PM
^^No. Kegs are banned from all of the university now. No kegs at tailgating, frat/sorority houses or anywhere on campus. Damn I hate Stafford for being such a dick.and I can't help but keep posting this.http://www.technicianonline.com/poll/index.cfm?event=displayPollResults&poll_question_id=21375Approval rating of 8%.....damn that's bad.[Edited on April 26, 2007 at 12:04 PM. I agree the tailgating restrictions should be lifted and things should go back to the way they were. To blame the entire fanbase for what two people did is just ridiculous. Also, to point the finger at people drinking as the reason is also ridiculous. As has been stated before a lot of people are still gonna drink the same amount in the 4 hr period as they would in a 8hr period or whatever, or they will drink at home and drive drunk adding a whole new world of problems. People are gonna do what people are gonna do. However I don't think you can hold alcohol as the reason that those men were shot. From my understanding and I could be wrong, the shooters were under the influence of drugs, I dont consider pot a drug.
4/26/2007 6:03:16 PM
^Don't forget the shooting occurred after kickoff, with the shooters not having tickets or any affiliation to NCSU.
4/26/2007 6:41:37 PM
you will see very very few at 6am with the no campout...gunzz, yeah, when you could campout I am sure there were...but very few will get up and be there at 6am, w/o the campout feature back.....
4/26/2007 7:43:47 PM
^^Thats right, so instead of punishing the fans just keep out the people without tickets or affiliation to NCSU. Then again, there have been time myself or friends have not had tickets to the game and still came out for the pre-game festivities. So I would hate to see people looking to have good clean fun not because of some dumb rule. However, if thats what it takes to get tailgating back to the way it was then I am all for it.
4/26/2007 8:05:44 PM
to everyone saying "oh its not that bad cause no one ever gets out there 10 hrs before a game anyway" - its not so much that i want to go tailgate at 5 AM, but i want the option to. sure maybe there are some games where i can't get there till 4 hours before, but in the event that i get out for a 7:00 game at 2:45, an UNBELIEVEABLE 15 MINUTES EARLY!, i'd like to not have to worry about being threatened with arrest and/or trespassing. i don't need some porker asshole cop with a stick up his ass screaming at me just cause i'm there a few minutes too early. its all about the principles. theres no reason the administration's kneejerk reaction to an isolated incident should continue to punish students.
4/26/2007 10:30:33 PM
i agree!!!
4/27/2007 1:49:57 AM
4/27/2007 9:36:15 AM
^^^ bingo. But the fact remains that these things are already in place and an uncomprimising administration is sticking to its guns about the issue no matter what we say.
