the VW R32 event is actually being organized through NASA-mid atlantic

Chin gives you tons and tons of track time but i hear its pretty slack on rules. $400 for hours of track time seems fair especially at VIR.

and nothing is wrong with PCA from what I've heard.

the last PCA (First Settler's) event i went to was pretty damn disorganized. def the worst event i've been to. but even though, there were no major fuckups, no major accidents, and everyone had fun. so i wouldnt say it was bad.

Audi club runs a tight ship and runs good events, but tend to be pricey.

Chin is a bit more expensive but the trade off is potiential for more track time. The "Novice" group runs by themselves which is nice and can also run during "open" track time as long as the instructor is onboard or if you have been signed off to solo.

Chin believes that with long periods of "open" track traffic will thin out after the initial rush to the track is over. This format only works if the event is incident free which was not the case on the Saturday last December at VIR. There were lots of bent up cars during that event.

The scary part of open track is having drivers of vastly differing abilities on track together. I was on track with two Ferrari Challenge cars (a 355 and a 360) while it made for cool pictures leading those guys into the Esses you had to be careful and manage traffic and stay out of the way.

The Chin event was fun and I got to meet some of the Wolf Web regulars for the first time but the format that PCA and NASA use are more to my liking. PCA tends to be more conservative but I can understand that given the price of some of the cars on track. The PCA Zone 2 VIR event earlier this year was well run.

DEAR SANDSANTA

THANK YOU FOR TAKING ALL THOSE PICTURES OF OUR CARS. THEY SURE ARE BADASS. EVENTHOUGH WE COULDNT RETURN THE FAVOR (cue Ahmet: "Your mom can't return the favor") AND TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR CAR DURING YOUR RUNS, WE STILL APPRECIATE IT.

Die. All of you.

Not really though <3

I've been trying to stay out of this thread. I really have.

The funny thing is the group of three preaching that this is an okay investment is comprised of three single men, one who has no job and a "mysterious" load of cash lying around, the other a newly hired engineer with no other financial responsibilities except himself, and the third an heir of a large life insurance policy.. They have the ability to waste $500 a month and they're going to do it. Why? Because I'm sure it's a hell of a lot of fun and they have the money to burn.

For me, that's almost two weeks paychecks, and that is definetely not something I can go do every month. Even if I saved up my money I still think it's a waste of time for 1 day's worth. There's much better investments I can make with $500.

And for the people saying, "Oh it's a bargain because you get time with an expert instructor."....

And instructor for WHAT exactly? Huh? Are you training for the Le Mans or something? You're doing this as a fucking hobby. It's not your job. The only people who can MAYBE say something like that are baonest and Ahmet. The rest of you, shut the fuck up please. That'd be like paying $500 for "secret agent training" and saying "omg it's a bargain, I'm getting training for it!" when you know there's no chance in hell you're ever going to use that training. Where would you use this "expert race training" anyway? Cary Parkway? You will never be handling your car on a public road at such speeds. So drop the "it's a deal for the training" bullshit. It's fun, it's expensive, and you can afford it because you're well off for various reasons. Just leave it at that and stop trying to justify it anyway else.

Me, I'll stick to autocross. $20 + gas for an entire days worth of fun is good enough for me.

^You know, every other time you've posted on this forum, I've agreed with everything you've said. If you don't feel like track events are worthwhile, I can absolutely respect that.

However, given your comment about an 'instructors' at events, you're obviously quite uninformed regarding hpdes.

Given that this is a 'track roll call' thread, catering towards people who actually go to events, I think it's time for you haters to leave. Go start your own thread discussing the fair market values of HPDEs, and how big of douches we all are for going to them.

Thanks.

you do realize that ahmet and koroush only have one thing more than the rest of us and thats experience. they aren't training for anything unless they want to get into different race classes like Spec E30's etc...Ahmet's got 8 more track events than i do and i just started 3 weeks ago. If you don't have the cash to spend then STFU.

matt, you are going to use this "training" every single day of your life when you drive.

you put your track maneurvers (sp) on the road to drive safe. and im not saying hit 100mph. im talking about getting your head strait and not hitting a guy when you are changing lanes.

trust me, this experience works
