I apologize for the double post, but in my search for more info about ICBMs I came across the collest pic I've seen in a while:The pic is of a test of the Peacekeeper missle's multiple warhead re-entry vehicle system. Ie: 1 missle carries 8 warheads, each able to hit a different target independantly. The lines are the re-entry warheads. Had the warheads been live, they each would have exploded with a force of 25 times Little Boy (Hiroshima).

wtf? are those lines artificial or actual crazy light beams from part of the test???
10/9/2006 10:15:24 PM
nah, hot ass re-entry vehicle.. speed at impact is 3-4km/s.. it'd probably look a lot like that.. until the warheads detonated that is... then you'd just die.

once upon a time there was a nation under economic santions that had a fierce ruler who suddenly decided to defy the rest of the world. he continued to defy the world time after time again. the major powers shrugged it off the calling of their bluff and did nothing thinking "o they are too poor to cause too much trouble" no children this was not north korea. this was nazi germany.

hitler made many speeches and at the end when it was time for him to go home he whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror, if anything he thought that that cab was rare but said oh heil, go home to bel-varia.[Edited on October 10, 2006 at 6:17 PM. Its the cool thing for dictators to do now. Ever since the invasion of Iraq they have used their state controlled media to make it look like America wants to invade them next. Then by being beligerent in the face of made up threats they build domestic support.

The ironic thing is that out of North korea, afghanistan, and iraq, NK is the only one that we would pretty much be assured of going in removing the previous government and establishing a stable new one (or in this case reuniting north and south and letting the south take care of most of it).
10/30/2006 11:54:44 AM
That worked really well in that one war that we tried it in. It was close to there...Korea was it?
10/30/2006 12:05:10 PM
^? are you by chance referring to the korean war, where north korea with the backing of the USSR (and mostly ussr pilots flying NK migs) invaded south korea in 1951 and a UN force was eventually able to break out from pusan with the landing at inchon and was able to beat the north koreans back to the yalu where the chinese then entered the war because they were afraid of capitalist forces being so close to their border? because that was the 1950s and things between china and the west have drastically changed. personally i think china would welcome a south korean takeover of north korea. north korea is just a drain on chinese resources, and they get nothing out of it. the North koreans are even starting to piss off the chinese, they need the west for trade, etc. they can do w/o NK.

I don't think that China would like to have a unified Korea under the supposedly still pro-American Republic of Korea government right on their northeastern frontier. More realistically, what'll happen is that Kim Jong Il's regime will push the Chinese over the edge, and the Chinese will either back someone within North Korea to topple the government and establish a pro-Chinese puppet government or go in and do it themselves. There has been increasing anger within the PLA as well about North Korean actions. Between the endless supply of politically embarassing refugees and a rather nasty situation where North Korean agents crossed the border chasing Chinese intelligence agents who were spying on the North (resulting in the capture of said agents and the death of a Chinese border guard), things are not that happy between the two. Again, I imagine that if the Chinese could figure out a way to pop North Korea's government without a massive exodus of refugees, they'd do it.I don't think the South is particularly enthusiastic about taking over North Korea either. Considering the massive economic gap, the South knows full well that an immediate reunification would break the South Korean economy and rain down unhappiness and a drop in the standard of living that they are unwilling to accept. They'd rather seriously consider reunification when the North closes the gap.
