Yeah sometimes you think you are ready to go solo and you're not. I went solo in Group 1 at Roebling back in May and spun the car between turn 1 and 2 on my first hot lap. It was very humbling and embarrassing; I felt badly for my instructor and felt I had let him down. To his credit my instructor went over things carefully after the spin and then said get back out there next session. Instructors definately have my respect. It took most of the Saturday session this past trip to figure out where I made my mistake.

at one HPDE my instructor was really focused on me doing all the thinking and safety awareness myself. at the end he signed me off solo for a session to cap it all off and put it to the test. it was a valuable exercise i think. it put all the weight on me and was a good check. it helped me a lot.but my last HPDE, my instructor again asked if i wanted to run the last session solo, but i declined because id rather have him there to help me w/ a turn i wasnt getting down right. My point is that unless you have a specific goal or purpose in going solo, youd be silly to turn down a knowledgable/experienced instructor's advice

I almost never turn down a passenger. A 2nd perspective is seldom useless.Ahmet

So says

its about consistancy, the car changes when the pass. is in or out.you arent gonna be racing with a pass. its good to see what if feels like going solo. and if you are comfy with it, then be it. if not, no problem.i had (i think) 3 different instructors ride with me up in BeaveRun. the best part was that it was an S2K event, so they were all familiar with the car. with them out of the car it was different.

You won't be racing with a passenger, but you have some issues if you can't handle the difference between having a pass. and not. Better not track that car w/out the slicks and the cage and fire supression system, won't be racing w/out those either... This post qualifies for the emoticon I hate the most: Ahmet

indeed that is true, but you cant stop in pit row and drop off/add in a cage, slicks and fire accessories[Edited on October 10, 2006 at 4:58 PM. Reason : t]

The point's not the requirements of a class/series/club. Imagine I said a 200lbs ballast, or a different sway bar setting, or what have you.Ahmet
