^^ It's not a cover, it's a rendition.The real gray area is when a song isn't a standard, but its original artist is not its author.Example: "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" was written by Motown's Whitfield/Strong duo and originally recorded by Marvin Gaye. Berry Gordy didn't like it, and the first version released by Motown was an uptempo take by Gladys Knight. She didn't write the song, and neither did Marvin, though Marvin's version has become most famous. On top of that, it was very common in Motown's golden era for a dozen different acts to record any given song. Are all these covers, or just renditions?[/nerds]
