Quote :
"how about "not having to pay this guy the rest of his $8 million this year"?"

Well if that was their motivation, then they should have traded him for prospects not a guy making 3.2 mil/yr

^^^ Don't know much about Heath Bell, but getting Linebrink further makes the Mets the best team in the NL. Linebrink has closer stuff and is already one the best setup men in baseball. Padres = Mets Bitch.

the mets could still use a solid third starter

[Edited on July 31, 2006 at 4:25 PM. Reason : ^the mets were already the best team in the NL, linebrink is just icing]

^^ Read that I said FURTHER MAKES the Mets the best team in the NL.

LA getting Lugo is a solid move. They basically now have a young, talented left side with Betemit and Lugo.

CBS Sportline is reporting that Soriano did not get traded.

^ I agree. I really thought there would be atleast a couple of big trades involving Soriano or Livan or Oswalt or Tejada, but basically nothing major happened except the Abreu trade.

The Red Sox did nothing...could be a blessing in design. Other than pitching I like our team, and hopefully Wells and Wakefield make strong comebacks(possibly clement as well).

Dude the Tigers picked up Sean Casey who is virtually a lefthanded Shelton but worse. The Sox needed pitching and couldn't get it.

WTF?

St. Louis announced they traded a minor-leaguer for Jorge Sosa?

I guess Duncan thinks he can turn around all of the Braves old misfits like Marquis.

Didn't the Braves designate Sosa for assignment? The Cards probably could have waited a couple of days and not given up shit. I'm sure whomever the Braves got was a piece of shit anyway.

yeah he was designated for assignment saturday

i don't care if we got a bag of big league chew, anything would be more valuable than sosa at this point

i dont like that we didnt pick up another SP, i mean we are getting maroth back but kenny rogers is a horrible 2nd half pitcher

why would the sox pick up a guy like casey? they already have konerko, who is fine at 1b, and gload, who is backup 1b and also excellent defensively.

for the sox, this has to signify them letting garcia or vazquez go in the offseason to make room for mccarthy, otherwise, why keep him when you could have gotten a package that included soriano and livan hernandez

cause you can't just say "hey guyyyys I got this $12mil starter that I am TOTALLY gonna let you take off my hands!" and uhhh how is livan hernandez any better?

oh and because mccarthy is cheap for like 4 years so that's why

dude did you not read my post, thats what i was saying, i was saying unless the sox see him as a starter next year, there was no reason for them to keep mccarthy

mccarthy is probably going to be a cheap solid starter for years to come. so your choices would have been the bloated soriano/hernandez contracts or mccarthy's 300k. no-brainer.
