^^ Well that only refers to the pornographic or expressly sexual anime-style art. While the term I used was hardly technical, it does include attraction people feel for non-pornographic anime characters too.Since we were talking about beowulf, and not 3d CGI porn- hentai wasn't the pertinent reference. Beowulf was never written in Old Norse. It was written in England in Old English and was set in Scandinavia.

Ah yeah because those are photo-realistic and based on accurate scans of real people. GG on the reading comprehension there.

Just saw at in IMAX 3D. Loved it. Highly recommend.

yeah, it was very good in 3D. The fight scenes with grendel with the crazy blinking strobe light type deals were amazing. Shit was intense. I would go back

Lame. Characters looked like they came from Shrek. Mediocre storyline. And how many times does he have to yell his own name?

^^Besides some liberties with the story in this movie...you do realize that this story was written over 1000 years ago at least correct? So im not sure which stories you have to compare this one to.[Edited on November 26, 2007 at 7:06 PM. Reason : ]

Yes, I'm aware it's old. I'm comparing it to other stories in existence. And it's not that great.

like what, like harry potter? ill say again that its a tale that is near impossible to compare to anything modern. as a fantasy fan im not even sure what other works you would have to compare to this within its relative time period? Possibly Waltharius? And of course the earlier works of Homer.i mean im not saying its the best story ever by any means, but so many modern day fantasy authors use ideas that were solidified in this story specifically (dragons associated with a hoard of treasure etc) that i have an enormous amount of respect for it in its context.[Edited on November 26, 2007 at 10:03 PM. The original story was mediocre, anyway. The Jerry Bruckheimer of 1000AD wrote it.[Edited on November 26, 2007 at 10:07 PM. Reason : .]

^^ Well said. I think they did an excellent job augmenting the original story to make the case for lust as the folly of all men, no matter how great.[Edited on November 26, 2007 at 10:07 PM. Reason : ]

^^ since you and shivan bird seem to be so well versed in pre 1000AD fiction i wonder what kind of list of other literary masterpieces came out around that time?unfortunately i cant read old english, and the work is a poem, thus some of its impact is forever lost to modern readers...unless we all take the time to learn old english having read a lot of greek and roman literature-altho not more than most literature fans by any means-(also probably a lot of which is lost in translation) I was never really that insanely impressed but within their context they are great stories considering the time they were written in also. i guess i tend to enjoy some other things surrounding stories besides the story itself sometimes.[Edited on November 26, 2007 at 10:19 PM. ^^^ If I'm watching a movie today, I don't really care whether it was relatively good a thousand years ago.also, http://www.editoreric.com/greatlit/lit-701-1500.html. People seem to highly regardThe Thousand and One NightsTale of Genji

I am pretty critical of movies, but this movie was pretty entertaining. But maybe because I saw it at an IMAX.If you see it, see it at an IMAX.

saw it tonight in 3d, pretty balla. although it got pretty weak during the changing of/after the grendel's mom part of the story. The original story was better. but i guess that is to be expected... although a straight up fight between angelina and beowulf woulda been cool like in the poem...anyway i think some of the movie was about the fabrication of epics, almost satirical. how he told the mermaid story and the ripping off of grendel's arm, in the poem he straight rips his arm off "with his bare hands" like he said he did in the movie.[Edited on December 21, 2007 at 1:36 AM. Saw this in 2D. Damn it sucked. I guess 3D glasses are the only way to make a shitty movie half decent. That Grendel thing was gross as hell. And wtf was up with fighting it nude? I assume it's from the original story but it came across fucking stupid in the movie. And:
