Being around someone more shouldn't translate in having to pay all the time, that's my contention. It's nice to see someone reciprocate the generosity you've shown, and I think that shows a lot about someone's personality and the future you could have with someone, since we're not talking about casual dating.

real relationships get sour after the honeymoon period.

soon, it will be about trying to keep your dick in your pants, trying to "compromise", trying to make it to the next day without pulling a fucking trigger while the gun is down the bitch's throat.

I call it the "esgargs' College relationship without sex for 30 days" challenge.

If you can pass that, I can hope for a glimmer of love.

i didnt read the thread i just chimed in, but if that was me and the girl expects that shit and verbalizes that she expects it, then she is most likely immature or a gold digger and either way doesnt respect the guy at all

I still disagree. The honeymoon ends when the girl throws her entire life outside of her boyfriend away and dissappears into seclusion with him for months and he gets irritated at her not having anything outside of him...then he stops showering her with affection because he knows she will be there and take her for granted and she no longer has an outside circle to return to to give him time to himself and that is when the honeymoon ends. Girls do this a lot and it pisses me off when they are like "But why doesn't he love me like he should?" Because you're forcefeeding yourself to him.

But, I repeat, some girls are not in it for the money.

ok i just read it

dude

the point of the friends dinner thing was not truly that she wanted you to pay

it was probably that you did that shit in front of all her friends, i mean honestly, think about that shit, girls are all about impressing their friends, and to her you made her look bad

so that time I am 99% sure it wasnt about the money, more of the gesture, if that makes sense

pawprint, you're right in your own way...but it's not just the girls who are to be blamed.

Also, ever wonder that you're single just because you're not insane about the idea of a college relationship?

I frankly cannot understand being in a commitworthy relationship until I atleast have a career.

I know girls are not the only ones to be blamed. I have been single by choice since last summer. I go oout on dates and I usually pay or try to leave the tip. If I like the guy and he insists on paying, I will find some way to make it up to him...but I know that I used to be one of those girls who gave everything up for the affection of a guy and it's really just not worth it. You have to love yourself first. I am not really affected by the college relationship idea but it's nice if a guy has a job because it shows he is not LAZY and that he has motivation for his life. I could careless how much a guy makes as long as he is trying to enrich his life and make himself better.

Being treated to dinner is nice, I admit, but that's mainly because I am working 2 jobs and I'm still broke all the time and usually don't go out but it's not a requirement for my happiness.

[Edited on May 8, 2006 at 11:35 PM. Reason : and by "make it up to him" I mean cook for him or buy him someone small...not sex, move along.]

I can see paying for her in front of her friends just because society expects it....but if her friends opinions matter more to her than her own...well, we have a problem.

why don't you guys just discuss the money issue before you go out to eat?

its as easy as saying "i'll get lunch today" and then next time you go out saying "its your turn"

if we're going out with friends josh usually pays for me, but then i always pay for him the next time we're out

we try to take turns, which i think is fair being that both of us are reasonably broke
also going dutch a lot of times is awkward so its easier to just switch off turns paying

why? because we enjoy each other's company and would rather eat together than not. i can't afford to pay for her because we meet up for lunch almost every day, probably a total of 25 times a month. that's a lot of money on top of the money i already spend on dates and other stuff.

Dude...If you fall for this shit and let her make you feel guilty now you'll be paying a maid's salary to clean the house you pay for while she sits on her ass and eats bon bons all day a decade from now.

I'm just saying.

He is being smart. If I had all the money back that I pissed away during my last relationship, I would own a rental property and maybe a boat. If your fucking stupid enought to regularly spend $50 on a lunch I wont dog you for it, I have been there. Truth is you may be a few months from realizing that you have nothing in common with her, shes attached to what you provide her, not you, and that she has to go.

Then in hindsight all those $50 lunches wont seem that baller.

If you enjoy eating expensive lunches, and enjoy the girl along as company then go for it. Just dont forget that a nice gesture is no longer a nice gesture once it becomes an expectation. If you build your relationship around wasting money on her then youre setting yourself up for failure.

you should convince her to do the same

be like "im tryna save money so i can take you somewhere nice"

and then take her somewhere nice every once in a while

Materialistic society where people/women can't cook.

ding ding ding

bring lunch! you want to spend time together? fine-- then it shouldn't matter if you're eating pbj from home or quiznos

get creative if you don't have money- i'm not hating on that but this who buys food situation sounds like its affecting the relationship when it shouldn't

what an easy way to solve such a simple problem

plus little picnic lunches are way more thoughtful and memorable

straight guys do not do picnic lunches for their SO's. That's just isn't right.

Bringing a sandwich for her is different, but girls don't sit around and think or tell their friends "Oh man, that was soo sweet that time he brought me a sandwich to eat when we didn't go out for lunch!"

Oh yes, I've had guys try to impress me and be sweet, but picnic's aren't even a way to do it. I'd say 3 years with someone is pretty much the experience I need to respond to this thread.

Is there a rule "Must be this experienced to reply"?

As far as low standards, if it takes a picnic to swoon you-that's pretty low standards.

I like to call out bitches that make threads about hooking up with the new office buddy in the COM building right after being dumped out of an old relationship.
