NICE!GO STATE!like was mentioned earlier, 1. Can sell his NBA connections to big-time recruits2. Hopefully he brings the Pistons's attitude and work ethic and hard-nosed D3. A home boy coaching the Pack!!fowler did come through, whaddya know
5/4/2006 2:25:47 PM
He "came" through. Barnes or Calipari would've been better. But I like the homegrown shit. And lets be real. I could've recruited Lowe. It's not too hard to sell this position to a hometown hero.[Edited on May 4, 2006 at 2:27 PM. Reason : .]
5/4/2006 2:26:47 PM
sendek always had good D teamsso i think most fans who wanted sendek gone were looking for a change in the offense not the defense[Edited on May 4, 2006 at 2:28 PM. Reason : a]
5/4/2006 2:27:15 PM
as is blatantly obvious already... the Herb-Homers are already making plans for picket-lines and rallies.
5/4/2006 2:28:04 PM
Fowler gets about as much credit for this hire as Bill Wennington did for winning an NBA championship with the Bulls.Luc Longley on the other hand....
5/4/2006 2:29:49 PM
and jbrick3, you aren't some nostradomus posting that shit. An article ran in the paper about a week ago about Sidney lowe wanting the job
5/4/2006 2:30:40 PM
at NC state, coach picks school
5/4/2006 2:31:47 PM
I'm a little torn about the hire. Of course, once the dust settles I think that everyone will be behind him and we'll all be optimistic and happy. But for now I'm feeling cautious. His lack of success coaching and lack of college experience smacks "experiment", maybe moreso than any other candidate on the list. But also his potential upside is probably higher than anyone on the list. Pros:-Already mentioned NBA connections and clout-Valvano said that Lowe was the smartest player he ever saw.-Change of pace in terms of intensity, relating to fans-possibly a huge change of pace in terms of gameplan, playstyle, etc.-NCSU alumCons:-Lacks college coaching experience-Unsuccessful as a head coachParticularly interesting tidbits:-His assistants may make or break him, and it will be very interesting to see who he chooses. Coming from a Pro team, he won't bring any assistants with him..and will have to hand select them from across the nation.-Black coach. Say what you will, but this could have an impact. Being the first Black Big Four coach may be a big boon for State in recruiting and other areas. Has a tiny chance of being a negative impact with some of the fanbase if Lowe isn't successful...

^^^I'm not going to even touch this kind of pissing contest.[Edited on May 4, 2006 at 2:32 PM. Reason : .]

So does this mean that Lowe will get restaurants named after him and a ticker-tape parade if he finishes fourth place next year?
5/4/2006 2:32:45 PM
it's not like he's fucking Panthro coming in here and making predictions.he's simply posting what he's heard. you don't want to believe it? fine. wait a week and read it online somewhere. don't try to come in here and bash him for simply telling you what he heard.jesus christ people
5/4/2006 2:32:53 PM
wait someone tell me his record again? wait, someone tell me he's coachd college before? oh thats right
5/4/2006 2:33:25 PM
5/4/2006 2:33:40 PM
I was a HUGE Herb Supporter.Lowe is not as good right now as Herb was.But I DO LIKE THE HIRE. IVE BEEN SAYING THAT.
5/4/2006 2:35:24 PM
Ive heard that Lowe is definitely the guy and the press conference will be Saturday afternoon...awful timing considering the Canes are starting their series with the Devils at the same time.
5/4/2006 2:36:05 PM
well, this is what we get.He could be a Paul Hewitt, he could be a Pete Gillen. We'll see.
5/4/2006 2:36:22 PM
Being an alumnus can help you recruit. Being an alumnus can help get the boosters to provide more money. Being an alumnus means that you get more slack, so you are less likely to be run out of town prematurely. It may not get him any wins, but it'll help ease the pain if he loses.I think being an alumnus as a coach is overrated, but to act like there are no benefits to having a coach from the "family" is crazy.
5/4/2006 2:36:35 PM
Remember folks, entering w/ .25 win pct, we will be the fucking laughing stalk of the acc until he proves hes worthy.[Edited on May 4, 2006 at 2:38 PM. Reason : this is gonna get worse before it gets better]
5/4/2006 2:37:46 PM
I'm excited. We needed a change and we got one. This seems like a much better hire than Whittenburg.I like how he brings instant credibility to recruits by having Pro connections and I like that he won't fall into the trap of playing not to lose like Herb did.I'm not completely sold that he's gonna be THE guy, but I dont think he's a huge risk like Whittenburg.I think we're going to be a little more inconsistent than we were under Herb, but on the flip side we'll have more big wins and excitement. After you mindless loonies stood behind Herb so long (and cost us Rick Barnes in the process) you better be damn willing to support the hell out of Lowe until he proves beyond a reasonable doubt that he's not the answer.
