i think the next star trek movie needs to be a continuation of the plot in the first season TNG episode with the bug things that lived in people's necks and controlled them. if you remember, at the end of the episode they were sending a beacon into deep space...
7/4/2006 4:29:08 PM
damn, only smath remembers shit like thisi do now, but only b/c he said iti guess it has to do with knowing math really good
7/4/2006 4:31:43 PM
^^Yeah, that's been a complaint that I've seen on several forums. It could've made for an interesting story arc, and yet they never went anywhere with it. It's as if the space bugs never existed, or were completely forgotten about.
7/4/2006 4:35:53 PM
really? so i'm not the only one that would like that storyline resolved????
7/4/2006 4:46:08 PM
They need to make a movie with Q in it.

The Romulans always make for good baddies.

well, nobody really remembers the bug thing, so not many people would make the connection from the show to the movies.why not come up with something new instead of "aliens have taken control our leaders and making them do stupid things"
7/5/2006 9:24:23 AM
yeah that bug plot was as dark as they get for TNGi mean they blew that guys head to bits at the end to find the bug leader.i always wanted to see it resolved but they just ignored it.

I've only seen one episode of Enterprise. It was the one where the crew needed some kind of ore to keep the ship running. They find some on a planet with a bunch of miners that were being exploited by klingons. They teach the miners how to defend themselves, they rebuild their town 50 feet to the left so the klingons will stand on their trap, and when the klingons fall in the trap they get scared off and never come back.My favorite part of that episode is how a warlike race pretty much calls it quits because they were surrounded by a ring of fire. They even beam aboard their ship, tuck their tails, and run. I guess they are not know for their tactical prowess as it never occurred to them to use the same tech that beamed them to their ship to beam them back down to the planet outside the circle of fire so they can start slaughtering the miners. First and last episode I ever watched.Flesh it out a bit an they could have a movie about that.

Yea the 'bug plot' was one of my favorite TNG episodes on the basis that it was creepy and seemed like it could have had an entire story arc.I'm going to be honest, I don't care about Spock or Kirk or Trek Lore anymore. Enterprise beat the interest out of me on that front. Enough with the lame 'prequel' and 'throwback' episodes. I'd just like them to advance the ST storyline outside of The Borg, Romulans or Klingons and introduce a new adversary and/or puzzle.Hell, go extreme, make it a two part or trilogy series but by God do something new.
7/5/2006 10:44:52 AM
Yeah, there seems to have been a problem with the Trek writers as a whole ignoring or forgetting entire story arcs and plot lines (such as the space bugs) simply because they didn't have the courage or the imagination to take on something that was unusually dark for Trek. Trek has usually taken the stance that humanity is perfect and without problems, and instead focuses either on exploring the unknown or having the perfect, self-righteous humans lecture the rest of the galaxy on why the Federation way is superior. The original Trek had a little bit of this but it at least showed that humanity still had a ways to go, but the innate superiority of humans is much more pronounced in all the other series. In all fairness, though, it was toned down a little bit in DS9, which is the darkest of all the series. But I digress, Trek's writers don't usually want to handle any story arcs that might actually span a season or more. Take the Borg as an example. When we first ran into them they were an unstoppable juggernaut, but after TNG's The Best of Both Worlds the Borg were reduced to semi-phenomenal, nearly cosmic. First Contact turned them into space vampires, and by the time of Voyager they had pretty much been pussified completely. That whole season could have been dedicated to a Federation/Borg war ala B5, probably with the Federation losing badly. But this never came to pass. The writers knew that, as the Borg had been written originally, they couldn't be stopped by the Federation. They didn't want to tread in that direction, or even consider the implications, and so the Borg's "invincibility" had pretty much been dropped and forgotten.
7/5/2006 11:29:51 AM
the borg were my least favorite 'enemy'. the only thing they had going for them was the invincibility, and as you just said, that was removed.though i really did enjoy the locutous (sp?) plot arch, but probably just because it was so drastic at the time they did it.
7/5/2006 12:40:23 PM
I think DS9 proved a nice dark edge to the ST universe.Anyway, they need to come up with a new enemy.

given the vast differing opinions here....a smash trek hit is going to be impossible
7/5/2006 7:14:24 PM
2 episodes on every night at 8 on G4 for anyone interested.holodeck disaster episode on as we speak
7/6/2006 8:53:08 PM
7/6/2006 9:09:08 PM
yepthis was the one with the intelligence that the enterprise created and the locomotive in the holodeck was in control of the enterprises' course.
7/6/2006 9:12:49 PM
i wouldn't count that as a holodeck disaster episode.
7/6/2006 10:38:34 PM
As many times as the Holodeck went hay-wire or spawned dangerous AI, you'd think their use would have been banned by now. I guess the holo-pussy is just too good to do away with it completely.
7/7/2006 11:16:15 AM
you'd think with all of the brain dead americans that tv has created they would have banned that by now.
7/7/2006 12:33:48 PM
I'm guessing that you're being sarcastic/trolling, because generating lazy couch-potatoes is hardly the same thing has disengaging the safety protocols at random times and endangering lives.
7/7/2006 1:45:14 PM
no, i'm being serious. people, especially children, who watch TV too much won't grow to their potential. it's not the same as someone hitting the "deactivate safety protocals" button on the remote and having jack bauer come out of the screen and interrogate you, no, but the misuse of TV does have a definite negative impact.
7/7/2006 4:57:26 PM
id listen to smath if i were you guys, he runs the numbers before every postyou know, that math shit
7/7/2006 5:23:45 PM
That holo pussy will do anything you want.Get all freaky naughty
7/7/2006 10:48:11 PM
JesusFuckingChristSmath. The Enteprise is ship you idiot. If a TV took over an American Naval Vessel then you best believe its captian would destroy it.
7/7/2006 11:06:39 PM
uh, english please?
7/8/2006 1:06:36 AM
I think he was trying to say that in a transvestite ever took over a ship, the military would destroy it.Or toy vacuum maybe...
7/8/2006 1:38:43 AM
Seriously, this keyboard I have requires a h a r d press to register anything.Anyway I basically said your analogy is stupid and you should shut up.
7/8/2006 2:26:02 AM
7/8/2006 11:03:07 AM
um, no it wasn't. and i do believe i'm MUCH more capable to discuss trek than you are, so how about you just run along home now.
7/8/2006 11:53:15 AM
engage!
7/8/2006 3:22:31 PM
definitly set pre-tng[Edited on July 26, 2006 at 8:32 PM. Reason : a]
7/26/2006 8:31:29 PM
didn't they learn the prequel lesson with enterprise?
7/26/2006 8:50:03 PM
7/26/2006 9:07:34 PM
I have faith in J. J. Abrams directing it but I'm really getting sick of the pre TOS era.
7/27/2006 11:06:16 AM
I view that as a writing cop out. How well did 'Enterprise' do? Why make a prequel movie? Its time for some new lore and some new, interesting events to happen to the Federation. If not, just let it die for a decade until new and more creative talent arrives.
7/27/2006 11:08:32 AM
FUCKED
7/27/2006 1:36:32 PM
Not to mention a really shitty theme song.

Besides Khan, you mean.
7/27/2006 3:02:46 PM
Heather Ledger plays young Khan.
7/27/2006 4:40:29 PM
7/27/2006 6:03:26 PM
In my opinion part 2 and 6 were the best of the Kirk era. I thought part 4 was average but it did hook a new type of audience.Christopher Lloyd in part 3 stole the show.
7/27/2006 10:25:50 PM
so what ever happened to Qthat would be cool if they brought him back
7/27/2006 11:03:51 PM
the 6th star trek movie was fantastic
