btw....how is this a weak draft with guys like tyrus thomas and lamarcus aldridge in the draft?
4/11/2006 2:06:13 PM
Holy shit?? Tyrus Thomas and Lamarcus Aldridge are in the draft??? Strongest draft EVAR!!!You're kidding right?? When Rajan Rondo is a late lottery pick to mid first rounder...you have a weak draft. When Adam Morrison is a top 5 pick, you have a weak draft. When Josh Boone is a mid-first rounder...you have a weak draft. It's a weak ass draft with very few "proven" players. Lot's of "potential" in this draft (as there always is...but A LOT in this year's draft).
4/11/2006 2:20:16 PM
potential is what the NBA is all about...dwight howard was #1 a year ago, right outta high school, and now he's 2nd in the league in rebounding...so shut itits not weak in terms of big men
4/11/2006 2:25:10 PM
^^ Very true. A strong draft was LeBron, Melo, Wade, Bosh. Darko fucked it up some. This year's draft looks very weak IMO.[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 2:25 PM. Reason : ^]
4/11/2006 2:25:21 PM
1. Akeem Olajuwon Houston Houston 2. Sam Bowie Kentucky Portland 3. Michael Jordan North Carolina Chicago 4. Sam Perkins North Carolina Dallas 5. Charles Barkley Auburn PhiladelphiaUmmm.....yea.
4/11/2006 2:28:09 PM
^weak man.that was a completely different era.
4/11/2006 2:28:43 PM
You mean when the top players in the draft actually panned out?
4/11/2006 2:29:57 PM
no, i mean when players stayed in college or attended college at all....you knew what i meant
4/11/2006 2:30:36 PM
4/11/2006 2:30:58 PM
^not for big men.
4/11/2006 2:32:05 PM
Ced is an idiot he needs a coach RIGHT NOW who will tell him not to be a dumbass and DO NOT HIRE AN AGENT!
4/11/2006 2:47:59 PM
Alright...let's set this straight. Ced is 6'9" (but plays a lot bigger with that wingspan). So let's compare him to the rest of the big men in the draft.- Lamarcus Aldrige (6'11" 245lbs): 15 pts, 9 rebs, 2 blks, 33 min/game- Tyrus Thomas (6'9" 218lbs): 12 pts, 9 rebs, 3 blks, 26 min/game- Josh McRoberts (6'10" 240lbs): 8 pts, 5 rebs, 1.3 blks, 25 min/game- Cedric Simmons (6'9" 233lbs): 12 pts, 6 rebs, 2.5 blks, 27 min/game- Hilton Armstrong (6'11" 235lbs): 9 pts, 6 rebs, 3 blks, 28 min/game- Shelden Williams (no explanation needed)- Josh Boone (6'10" 237lbs): 10 pts, 7 rebs, 2 blks, 27 min/gameAnd I'm just going to stop there. That's a list of the big men expected to go in the 1st round. I mean really...what really separates those guys from Cedric Simmons (other than Shelden Williams)??? His rebound numbers are a little low, but teams are smart enough to know that's in part due to our offense and Cedric being at the 3-point line all the time. This year's draft is weak...for guards, for big men, for anybody. It's shitty ass draft.
4/11/2006 2:49:19 PM
If Simmons does leave, we'll be in SERIOUS trouble next year. With Brackman likely not coming back due to baseball, we're looking at McCauley playing Center and not having really anyone to back-him up.
4/11/2006 3:06:00 PM
^^i was gonna list them all out, but I'm glad you did instead.that's a pretty solid big men group, just cause there's no Shaq or Timmy D, you call that weak?hahahahah, you know nothing.you said it yourself, potential, the first 4 were either freshman or soph's this year.[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 3:11 PM. Reason : .]
4/11/2006 3:08:59 PM
Good lord. Don't you understand??? There is one dominant big man in the draft...Shelden Williams...and he'll probably be one of the weakest pros out of all of them. None of the rest of the guys average over 15 points!!!There is barely anything separating Ced from the other big men in the first round. He probably has more potential than most of them with that freakish wingspan and athletic ability. And big men are premiums in the NBA. Good guards are all over the place. NBA teams kill for a solid big man.Which means....Ced has a good chance of going in the first round while averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds for a 10 seed team in the NCAA tournament. If that doesn't show you that this year is a weak draft for big men and well as overall...then you are just fucking dumb.
4/11/2006 3:15:48 PM
give me a break dude.we can play the "dominant by the numbers" game all day.what did d. howard average in college again? that's right. what about villanueva? man, sean may was pretty dominant in college, how about in the pros?dominance in college rarely translates to dominance in the pros these days.
4/11/2006 3:25:51 PM
And your point is??I still only see a couple of those guys actually being really good big men in the NBA. Williams will be solid. Josh Boone sucks. McRoberts could be good, but it's not 100% he's even gone. Hilton Armstrong put those numbers up as a senior.Lamarcus Aldridge looks like the only Villanueva/Dwight Howard type player on there. Tyrus Thomas has a chance. That's it. You've got two or three potential really good big men and that's it. I still don't see how this is a good big man draft.
4/11/2006 3:32:59 PM
4/11/2006 3:34:49 PM
^^and my point is........right above your question you dope.
4/11/2006 3:44:43 PM
I'm done with arguing to this dumb fucking brick wall after this post. But your comments don't prove that it's a strong draft. There are like 2 potential star big men in this class and a bunch of really big maybes. How does that make it a strong draft?? You're not giving any proof. All you are saying is..."college dominance doesn't equal NBA greatness." What the fuck does that have to do with the the strength of this particular draft?? "I'm glad there aren't 20 amazing college big men in this draft...because that would make it weak"??? Huh??

Aldridge - top 5, possibly #1Thomas - likely top 10(better defender than Simmons)McRoberts - seen a lot of top 5, perhaps top 10 to low-ball itShelden Williams - before CedricAldridge, Thomas, and McRoberts will all be taken because of potential, Williams will go because of proven talent. Those are 4 big men that will go before Cedric Simmons.Simmons will likely be in the NBDL for 2-3 years now instead of sticking it out here and becoming a much better player before leaving. Simmons is ROUGH raw talent that will take a few years just to shape into anything the NBA can use.I understand he is in a bad financial situation and I'll hope the best for him in the future, but I really think leaving this year is a mistake.
4/11/2006 6:29:10 PM
Villanueva was average in college. If you don't remember that far back (i mean it was all the way back to last year, jeez who could remember that), then I will remind you that sean may was the most dominant player in college for the last half of his junior year. I mean, he had like 27pts and 24reb against duke.^which is tougher competition, NBDL or College (ACC)? not a rhetorical question I would really like to know.[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 6:30 PM. 4/11/2006 6:36:52 PM
draft is definitely weakCEDRIC LEANING TOWARDS NBA?DOESNT HAVE TO LEAN THAT FAR WITH THE 7'4" WINGSPAN!AHAHHA
4/11/2006 6:37:49 PM
4^He'll get more attention and be seen more on the collegiate level. As far as competition, I'd actually say being in the ACC, that the collegiate level would be better.I mean he's going to be going up against some of the better big men in the nation playing in the ACC, a lot of who will go straight to the NBA. The NBDL is full of talent who aren't quite good enough for the NBA and are too old to be in college. So I'd say better talent will be found at the collegiate level. I mean if McRoberts stays he'll go up against him for a couple of years, then there is Hansbrough over at UNC who will be there a while for him to go up against.Better experience = collegeBetter competition = collegeBetter money = leave And it seems this is entirely about the money.[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 6:41 PM.
