Yeah thats actually one of the good things I've heard about him. Now whether or not he's a dirty recruiter is a different story.

Actually though, I heard that Memphis scored just above 900 on that new scoring system used by the NCAA for academics. It wont hurt them this year, but if its below like 930 for two years in a row, you get penalized with scholarships depending on how bad it is.

I wouldnt look too much into that number though, cause our basketball team had a worse score than our football team when we were first scored....and Herb did such a great job with academics and he is god. (and yes, the football team passed, the basketball team didnt)

just because its easier to get into a school doesn't mean its easier to graduate from it...and also just because its hard to get into a school doesnt mean its hard to gradate cough UNC cough.
i think perhaps their majors might help more than entire school stats?

I love NCSU, BUT, here are way too many stupid people here for us to have an average entrance GPA of 4.07. That seriously does not make any sense.

4.07 isn't that great when it's unweighted (As in, 6.0 possible due to AP classes)

^ True, but you can't take AP classes during your freshman year.

Though, honors classes (5.0) are counted too. Anybody have any unweighted GPA #s?

^^ 4.0 is the highest you can get unweighted 4.07 is not possible on an unweighted scale at at almost all schools. A weighted scale is what uses Ap= 6.0 and Honors = 5.0 etc.

Compare the SAT scores...NCSU is a smarter school by that standard.

i had a 3.65 unweighted GPA upon graduation from hs. i went to a school where that was good for being ranked 60 out 300. pretty much everyone in front of me or around my rank went to UNC/Duke/State/[insert other great school here]. our top 100 were some of the cream of the crop of the public school kids in Charlotte.

" Calipari focus of NC State coaching search
Posted: April 8, 2006

Mike DeCourcy
Sporting News

NC State is not giving up its pursuit of a big-name coach.

It just might not be the name everyone expects.

With Rick Barnes insisting he wants to stay at Texas, John Calipari, who led Memphis to the Conference USA championship and a No. 1 NCAA Tournament seed, has become the focus of the Wolfpack's efforts to replace Herb Sendek. The plan is to interview Calipari within the next two days.

The Wolfpack would be trading in one former Pittsburgher for another, but that's probably where the similarities end. Calipari has a dynamic personality that will make him difficult to ignore, even in an area that already includes coaching superstars Mike Krzyzewski and Roy Williams.

Calipari is gettable in part because he makes less than $1.1 million, plus incentives. The standard market for elite coaches has grown to more than $1.5 million, including new Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson. Barnes will be raised well above that level to stay at UT. Calipari's base salary has not increased in the past four years.

NC State has the resources to put together a huge financial package. The school offered more than $2 million annually to Barnes earlier this week.

Calipari has said many times recently that he is not eager to leave Memphis. If he does, he will be walking away from a position of dominance to try to raise State's profile in the ACC.

Although Conference USA was weakened as the result of departures by Louisville, Cincinnati, Marquette and DePaul, Calipari exercised a considerable amount of control over league policy. He won't be able to do that in the ACC.

He also would leave behind a team that could contend for a national championship, with forward Shawne Williams and wings Chris Douglas-Roberts and Antonio Anderson likely to improve as sophomores. Williams has indicated he is likely to remain for his second college season. Point guard Darius Washington could depart early, but Calipari recruited his eventual replacement by signing prep star Willie Kemp."

Barnes to get $400,000 raise to remain at Texas
By Kirk Bohls | Saturday, April 8, 2006, 02:13 PM

I’m told that Texas basketball coach Rick Barnes has agreed to a contract raise that will increase his salary more than $400,000 and put him among the five highest-paid basketball coaches in the country.

Barnes and Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds have met several times this week and come to an agreement on a salary that will top $1.7 million a year.

The news should finally end the speculation that Barnes is keeping open the possibility that he could return to his home state and accept the head coaching position at North Carolina State.

The Raleigh News and Observer wrote Saturday that the door was still slightly open for Barnes, a native of Hickory, N.C., and a former ACC coach at Clemson, was considering replacing Herb Sendek with the Wolfpack.

“That’s not true,” Dodds said Saturday at the Texas Relays track meet. “All I know is he’s told me there’s nothing there (at NC State). Rick’s been very up front with me. Rick’s in great shape.”

Barnes, whose Longhorn team has reached a Final Four and qualified for the Sweet 16 round four of the last five seasons to match only Duke and Connecticut, agreed to a 10-year extension of his contract last year with a salary that was $1.3 million a year. He annually receives a $50,000 bump.

I hate it when people say Calipari is our #2. Even if he is it doesn't sound good.

Quote :

Is he trying to claim that is our plan? How the fuck does this tool know what our plan is anyway. He is just simply hypothesizing and regurgitating what he reads in blogs.

Imo, Lee needs to start putting out more disinformation and red herrings. Unless he already is

Well, unlike the Barnes scenario, let's hope that the speculation with Calipari is both TRUE and ENTERTAINING this time, b/c he's pretty much our last shot at a big-name coach. The last thing I would want to see is a mid-major come in when State has the potential to capitalize on such a big opportunity and change it's public view of mediocrity in NC for the next 10-15 years at least.

I am going to go nucking futs if I get to see Calipari on the NC State sidelines.

That would be the best hire ever for NC State.. by far. Every other coach we've had was a successful mid-major.

Cal is one of the top 3-4 in the nation, IMO.
