4/25/2006 11:09:07 PM
That's the understatement of the year.
4/25/2006 11:28:50 PM
No, Ultraviolet was AWESOME.It was WAY worse than Silent Hill, but much more enjoyable.

In a "they can't be serious, this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever watched" way. I could only stomach it by laughing like crazy the whole time.

I just got back from watching Silent Hill, never played the game. I haven't read the thread so these things may have already been pointed out, but whatever. This movie was absolutely horrible. It was a nonsensical hogepodge of horror movie cliches and poorly rendered CGI. Bad kid actor & her stupid drawings? check. Grizzled truck stop employee warning against travelling to scary town? check. White woman investigating shit that she has no business investigating? check. And just when I think the movie couldn't get more ridiculous, the blonde bitch swings on a fucking rope over a pit. Next she should try throwing a barrel. Oh yeah and she also tucked that knife in her boot. I don't remember if that happened before or after the rope swing but for god's sake who does she think she is.Not to mention that the evil kid left clues for Rose to follow. CLUES! Like this is Scooby Doo or some shit. That might have been from the game, and the puzzle bit often works well in video games. But dammit, the clues and Rose's decision to follow them made no sense at all. It was like old school Batman - "How do you divide seventeen apples among sixteen people? Hey I know, Sharon's in the hotel!"The movie dragged on far too long. Director should've cut out 30 minutes of running and yelling "Sharon." I'll be damned if I know why the mom was always running and why she never got tired. And why the fuck was she carrying around a Bic lighter? There's no way she's a smoker with stamina like that.Oh and I like how the dad had to bribe that truck stop guy with a money clip of hundreds to find Silent Hill when there's a sign for it on the fucking highway. Hah, sucks for you dad. The zombie kids in the beginning seemed like little more than an excuse to get Radha Mitchell's coat off so you ravenous fanboys could get some wet-tshirt action. Actually forget just the zombie kids, I'd say that statement pretty well sums up the entire film. ]

4/29/2006 1:49:24 AM
You know why?BECAUSE SHE'S AWESOME.
4/29/2006 1:49:47 AM
Seriously.
4/29/2006 1:51:46 AM
although I will say that there were a few parts that actually bothered me those were the barbed wire in the crotch, the sexy zombie nurses, and the hint that the janitor had molested creepy kid version 1.0
4/29/2006 1:55:27 AM
i dont think the it felt all that cliche compared to other movies. they use white women, cuz lets face it, no one will sympathize with a man and using a minority doesnt work as well for ppl to identify with. thats more of a defense of all horror movies than just this. the kid is the only strong cliche that im getting tired of, but they didnt have much of a choice.the cgi wasnt all that bad either.it wasnt a great movie, but i think you've picked out some of the pretty dumb things to whine about otherwise (oh no she rope swung or the dad missed the sign in all the rain since he had no clue where to go).
4/29/2006 9:02:27 AM
well there are plenty more things to whine about if you're interested I've never seen a cop uniform that was so tight and sexy. What did Rose's car hit and why isn't there a dent? The boxes in the records dept are all burnt (nothing wrong with that per se, it's just really corny). How in hell did the dad know which file to look in. WTF was up with the detective's hands and why was he the same age when he rescued the kid back in the 70s. Rose must've been wearing some hella comfortable boots to do all that running. Why were the townsfolk wearing those weird costumes. Why did the kid run off once the car crashed? Why didn't the parents just lock Sharon's door once it became obvious that her sleepwalking could be dangerous. Why did Rose think it would be a good idea to take Sharon to Silent Hill in the first place, especially against the advice of a grizzled truck stop employee. Apparently she hasn't seen very many horror movies. The dialog between Rose and the cop was some of the worst I have ever seen in a movie. My farovite line - "Looks like there's been a fire." You don't say. ]
4/29/2006 11:49:57 AM
some of those things fall back into my original statement, but some are more valid. i agree it had a lot of retarded instances that many movies fall into (oh look here's that file i was randomly looking for). some are just lazy filmaking, some are cuz no one wants to watch the dad look for 30 mins for the files (or cut back later, would reduce continuity).im more of the "i dont give a shit about the plot in a horror/action movie" camp though, so those types of things dont bother me, even though they are dumb.

The game makes so much more sense. The stuff they removed from the game's story is what actually makes it make so little since. They added and subtracted so many characters and story elements. That cult member that got skinned isnt in the game, the nurse has a large part, and all the girls clues leading Rose around arent there. In fact Rose isnt in the game at all. The cults motives are completely different in the game and Cybils character is a helpful cop instead of some resident evil reject. They just tried to mix things from the first 3 games and it didnt work. Pyramid head is in the second game only and he serves a very specific purpose which was completely lost in the movie. They made Dahlia's character into a hobo when she actually plays a role like Christabella. It was just a jumble of stuff they thought would be cool, and being a fan of the games I feel disappointed with the movie. Pretty much all the questions about the plot people are asking are explained so much better. So it seems cliche...but the game is so much better.

Lezard is most definitely right.

It was a good movie for the kind of movie it was. People who don’t like zombie movies, horror movies, or allow for some mystical license in movie dealing with the borders of life & afterlife shouldn’t waste their money seeing movie types they don’t like. I mean there were several standard horror/mystery movie elements also found in this movie, but how can you go to see a movie of this type and not expect to see the very things that make it categorized this way?I liked the 3’s in it… real world, limbo, hell… 3 realizations of the girl… original burden, good part, & demon/devil in the form of the girl… I haven’t played the game but the triangle head guy seemed to fit the christian tripartite theme. (& someone else said in this thread he represents odd sexual desires, which would tie in with the lesbian theme)I liked the ambiguity of death, or just unconsciousness as a way of transferring physically to the afterlife area. The “don’t you get it, you’re in limbo” thing that the protagonist says to the ppl in church was revealing. It makes some sense that she couldn’t just drive her suv out of limbo. The lesbian attraction, the mother carrying the demon’s evilness into the church, the mother killing some of the church people with a knife, the little girl’s looking at the demon at the end even though the mother told her to keep her eyes clothes seem to suggest that they’ve earned themselves some time in limbo.

again, while i dont think this was the best movie, i did enjoy it. i dont understand the heavy negative criticism it got though, which is why i keep coming back to defend it. it was a lot more thought out than 90% of other horror movies, despite a few cliches. it was a bit long, but i thought that added some to the atmosphere.
4/30/2006 11:02:39 AM
The movie was good. People are just complaining because they had to pay for it
4/30/2006 12:41:31 PM
I generally pay for my shitty movies and see the good ones for free.Suck on THAT.
4/30/2006 12:43:03 PM
i dont understand what she hit with the jeep driving thereat first it looked like she hit something and wrecked, but really, she just stopped in the middle of the street and passed out

she may have in the real world, but she woke up in the alternate reality of silent hillso it doesnt really matter

I had played SH 1 3 and 4 prior to seeing the movie, and I'm in the process of playing SH2 to pick up the rest of the pieces in the puzzle. As a video game movie I was impressed and pleased with how many little things I recognized from the games. I can't remember any other video game movies that were so well connected to the game. Yes, there were pieces that were taken and added to make it easier to tell the story, but some things have to be forgiven for the sake of film making. I loved the scene with the nurses, because I think they did a great job with them as far as mannerisms and movement. Having seen Pyramid Head in action in the game, I'm aware of his interesting sexual nature, but don't see how movie-goers who haven't played the game would really know anything about him other than the fact that he's dude with a tetrahedron on his head and a really big knife.
5/3/2006 5:23:44 AM
hes a half naked guy attacking a lesbian-ish pair that seem to be running away from a man... so it seems to fit even if it was hard to pick up on. i like that movies dont always try to straight up copy their inspiration. a direct plot copy of x-men comics into movies would have made it bad, but i really liked the way they went. i haven't played the SH video games, although i've played similar type games, and was pleased with the movie. maybe the extended eddition dvd will make the plot more understandable for those who didn't get it the first time round.
5/3/2006 9:10:06 PM
The thing about all silent hill games and the movie is that the only storyline is brought by the characters that fumble into the town. I have never walked away from any of the games with even a close idea of what exactly happened or WHY THE FUCK things are so fucked up. Never new about the fires under the city(maybe due to lack of not playing the first game).I came into the movie not expecting to know why things happened the way the did. And therefor I was not dissapointed with any confusion I felt.
5/3/2006 10:35:14 PM
i went and saw it. I was so confused. I didnt understand why all of a sudden the deamon could get in the sanctuary through the women. And why did it matter that the girls looked alike? And where were they? purgatory or something? someone help please.
5/4/2006 11:37:41 AM
1. The demon got in that way because that's the way the writers wrote it.2. Sharon is Alessa's daughter.3. They're in Alessa's mind or some retarded shit like that.
5/4/2006 11:47:18 AM
But how did Alessa, in her very ugly and deformed state, manage to get someone to sleep with her?
5/4/2006 11:51:23 AM
i thought they said something about the girl splitting into two entities: the good and evil versions of Alessiai could be wrong
