That's fairly well known in anime circles... great movie, though, of course.

The Station Agent is a pretty good movie. It's independent and came out a couple years back.

saying white people havent seen do the right thing and saying they dont know about it are two different things

i have only seen bits and pieces of DTRT and none of the other two

but i know that all 3 are supposed to be excellent. I mean most regard sergio leone as the best director of his generation.

Definetly "Botlle Rocket" quite possibly "the Chase" from 1994.

What is sad is that I bet you could ask a wide sampling in the brickyard and most will have never seen and or heard of the graduate.

I hate this fucking thread.

But, to add, please check out any films done by these directors:

Francois Truffeaut
Jean-Luc Godard
Ingmar Bergman
Wes Anderson
Werner Herzog
Akira Kurosawa
Michael Haneke
The Coen Brothers
Peter Watkins
David Cronenberg

*Before you reply, yes I know some of these are widely known, but the average moviegoer identifies not with the director but with the actors on screen. Most people only know of, say, Spielberg and Scorcese but no one else. And also a lot of these directors' lesser known films (ex. Blood Simple) are good despite the lack of popular appeal.

seriously man, you think the people that read this thread dont know who these people are?

wes anderson puts out widely released movies that are advertised based on his name and the coen brothers are oscar winners and made a cult classic. once you aer involved in a cult classic you cant be "lesser known" anymore.

just listing off the directors you learned about in film class doesnt make people think you are some movie genius, fyi.

Good ones. That made me think of the following:

Titanic
Star Wars
E.T.
Spider-Man
The Lord of the Rings
The Passion of the Christ
Shrek
Jurassic Park
Forrest Gump
The Lion King
Independence Day

Yeah, they're pretty decent. It's good to see producers willing to roll the dice a bit with those quirkier films with a small range of appeal.

yes i was pointing out that those directors' movies known b/c of the directors, not b/c of the actors

not only have people heard of them, as you say, but they know their movies

the pt of 'lesser known films' by them is valid for the coen brothers, but i'm pretty sure most people can relate coen brothers/fargo at the very least. as for wes anderson, i think his only somewhat unknown movie is bottle rockets. the rest of his movies are widely advertised as by wes anderson.

BUT ANYWAY

the average person who loves "O Brother Where Art Thou" or pretends to love "The Royal Tenembaums" because they bought it at wal-mart 5 months ago

has probably never seen, or in some cases heard of, "The Hudsucker Proxy" or "Rushmore"

just because a director has some "hits" doesn't mean they don't have "lesser-known films"

WHICH IS EXACKLY WHAT HOMEBODY WAS SAYING

i'm sorry, i gues we should go back to discussing little known movies like Second Hand Lions

LESSER VIEWS =/= LESSER KNOWN

cmon man dont put me in the 'secondhand lions' group

i acknowledged that they had some lesser known films

but EVERYBODY assosciates royal tenenbaums, aquatic and rushmore w/ wes anderson

their primary advertising point of the first two is "from the director of rushmore, wes anderson"

something else that needs to be addressed

most of the people in this thread are still in school at one of the largest collections of college students in the state, in addition to one of the few semi-metropolitan areas the state has

so the definition of "lesser known" in raleigh is a lot different than it is in other cities

What's scary about this thread is I can't tell when people are sarcastic or not.

^^The above post is a perfect example.
