ShockTsunami, definetly the video card. people have said they went from 1gb to 2gb of ram and noticed no difference. this game puts the most power on the video card (GPU)

make sure you have Nvidia's latest drivers. they put them out this week specifically for Oblivion.

You can break into just about anywhere with one lock pick and some skill. All you have to do (at least on the pc) is save the game before you attempt a lockpick. Then like they were say earlier, try each tumbler a few times to see how long it stays up and wait for the time when it will stay up the longest to lock it in place. If you break the pick just reload your saved game and try again. You'll never loose a lockpick that way. I've broken into many "very hard" locks with this method and I'm only at security level 17. Stealing is soo much fun ! Now I need to find a quick way to accumulate some major gold.

You need to break into without anyone seeing you so no guards will come right?

you can save anywhere on the console too. you get a ton of picks if you fight goblins or stuff like that, so not a huge deal.

well, i know i stole some shit out of this house and soon as i walked out i was confronted by a guard with the violation-of-the-law-pay -n -gold-or-with-your-blood spiel, and i choose to pay in blood and got owned

Do the guards automatically see the "stolen" item in your inventory no matter how you got it?

Well I only got caught the first time. The guard said he'd take my stolen goods and I just paid the fine but afterwards I still had the stuff I stole, not sure why. But ya, you have to make sure you're not seen when you break in and make sure you don't stay too long. If a guard sees you after you've left he won't think a thing of it.

i stole a whole blacksmith's worth of weapons and walked past numerous guards, they dont care as long as they dont see you doing anything suspicious. that said, if they do catch you in the act they take all of your stolen goods, whether from that place or another.

are there other guilds besides Fighters and Mages? Also, what about "the dark brotherhood" or whatever recruiting you in your sleep if you kill someone, anyone had that happen? Does it have to be someone "famous" for this to happen? or is it just bullshit?

^ my friend got in by murdering someone. he said you get phat lewtz for joining.

you can join the theives guild in imperial city, though you gotta search around a bit. can join the blades if you get a few steps into the main quest. im sure there are others.

its crazy i have 10hrs played and i dont recall playing all that long. hell thats longer than most games are and i havent even done all that much.

Well in the last elder scrolls game where you could join the dark brotherhood (daggerfall) the idea was that if you went around slaughtering a few people, you'd come to their attention as an ethusiastic but maybe mad-dog killer. they'd give you a note warning you that there's better ways to focus that blood lust, and suggest you'd join them

the theives' guild was similar (in daggerfall at least). you steal and they eventually notice an unlicensed burgler in their territory and contact you to get you to stop or join.

I got an invitation to join the Dark Brotherhood after an arena match. Haven't done the quest to join, though.

As for stealing, just watch the eye icon when you're doing it. When it's lit up, someone can see you; when it's dark, you're fine. As long as no one sees you break in/trespass/steal, the guards never find out.

precisely. and always save before you try and break into someplace in case you get caught and loose all your stolen spoils. that would suck.

dude, that saving all the time shit is gay.... I mean, sure, it might make you "better" at the game, but if theres no risk for any action then it kind of ruins everything to me... its like the old games where you could enter a code to make yourself invincible... whats the fun in that?

i save a decent amount when in a risky area. i dont really bother while stealing, but it sux to lose tons of time played cuz of some random chance or a bad move.

I am fine with saving in general.... do that as often as you want, but I am saying saving before trying to do something that doesnt kill you and just redoing it over and over and over until you finally get it

this game alone validates my purchase of a 360 instead of forking out the money for a whole new PC build that could come close to displaying the high def quality this game has on my TV

that and the gameplay has me sucked in.. never played a past elder scrolls game.. and I haven't been really "big" into a game since Battlefield 2 a month or so ago.. but damn.. with Oblivion.. talk about a way to kill a few hours and not know where the day went

i like it better than morrowind by quite a bit already. i havent played it in years, but it seems like the interface and button usage is more intuitive and obviously travel is much better done.

i agree that redoing things can reduce the "authenticity" of the experience, but
1) that's your opinion
2) it would feel really bad to loose a couple days' worth of fine stolen goods because of a random mistake

i'm not saying to do it over and over again, its just good to have a backup incase something goes really bad. course it does help in the event that you only have one lockpick left and you don't wanna go running around looking for one just for a particular door. anything abused can take away from the fun factor.

I need to save just to go into a shop!

I have already had to go to jail several times because I accidentally pick up something on the table in front of me when I am trying to talk to the merchant.

I really like the use of the persuasion and lockpicking "mini-games" instead of just a random roll of the dice. Same with the new combat system.

Also, fast travel is so much better than having to find a silt-strider/boat/Mages Guild teleporter.

sometimes doing it helps get better or different information. i do it to merchants, i think it helps your bartering, but im not 100% sure. either way it is a good way to get a major skill up.

Sometimes you need a person's disposition to be high to get some useful info out of them; persuasion can take care of that.

I'm not really sure what effect it has on haggling--I haven't gotten the hang of that quite yet.

I did a clean install of XP, nvidia drivers, and audio drivers. Oblivion runs smooth on my 6800 at 1024x768 on med settings. Yah! finally. Now... when ever I want to play oblivion, I'd have to switch OS...

Does anybody have this for download? I can't afford to pay for it right now, but I really need to play it. Or can somebody just give me their game if they have gotten bored? I'll pay like $20 bucks.

can someone explain fast travel to me.

what is it exactly? how do I do it? what are the rules for it.

I am just tired of walking so damn much. especially with people following me who take forever to walk. there has to be an easier way.

So with the persuasion mini games, are you supposed to click on the big pie thing or the small ones?

The rules confuse me.

^they like 2 and don't like 2, but you have to click all 4 once you start.

You need to find the ones they like/don't like.

If they like it, click a large slice, if they don't like it, make the slice as small as possible.

Question about that, what can you do with it?

i do as well and that description is about as good as your gonna get for the persuation game.

big smile = big slice, grump guss = small pie. middle ones can be harder to tell. if you dont pick quick their persuation slowly ticks down.

best strategy is to maximize the happy face and minimize the frown. the middle 2 ones are important but wont affect the outcome nearly as much. use them to get the slices you want to the 2 important ones. remember you get 1 free spin of the wheel using X as well...but only 1. took me a bit but now im awesome at it (sometimes it is easier than others).

overall it is better to maximize the happy face if you can only do 1, cuz a big + and a medium - still nets positive. thats my philosophy.

Make people like you more.

If they like you enough they may offer you jobs or info they wouldn't otherwise. They'll also offer slightly better prices.
