Well, getting drunk/randomly hooking up doesn't appeal to me very much. And there isn't much else to do, unless you happen to like watching teenagers pretending to be antidisestablishmentarian "artists" (aka emo bands). It's not THAT bad, but there isn't really anything to do if you're not the clubbing sort (I've had shitty luck finding good evening lounges/cafes), and even if you are, there isn't much variety in the clubbing scene.

i mean uptown is pretty cool very clean and nicely organized with big pretty buildingsbut the bar scene in charlotte is a lot of the same shit you can find in raleigh, just repackedged and reformatted. the house parties ive been to at State blow all the ones at UNCC out of the water thoughi dunno, if i had to live in either, charlotte would be my choice simply because it's more urbanized and less like a gigantic suburb. raleigh was just way too small for me after growing up in a real city like DC.[Edited on February 21, 2006 at 3:04 PM. 2/21/2006 11:17:33 PM
Raleigh is not a citywhen people think of a NC city they think Charlotte.Take the capitol out of Raleigh and this place would dry up in 2 seconds
2/21/2006 11:29:38 PM
yeah, because being in the state capitol is such an advantage for all those companies in morrisville, cary, and rtpand clearly, all the national publications must be wrong:#1 Biotech Workforce#3 Biotech Metro Overall (Raleigh-Durham, NC)Milken Institute, June 2004#4 Best City for Dating (Raleigh-Durham, NC)Sperlings Best Places, May 2004#2 Most Educated City (Raleigh, NC)US Census Bureau-American Community Survey, 2002 (Released May 2004)#2 Best Place for Business (Raleigh-Durham, NC)Forbes, May 2004#4 Best City for Entrepreneurs and Small Business#5 Best City for Economic Dynamism (Raleigh, NC)Gold Guide Rankings, May 2004#6 Best Public School System (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill MSA)Expansion Management's MSA Education Quotient Rankings, April 2004#1 City with the Happiest Workers (Raleigh, NC)Hudson Employment Index, March 2004#3 High Value Labor Market Quotient 2004Expansion Management, March 2004#4 City That Rocks (Raleigh, NC)Esquire Magazine, April 2004#3 Best Education In The Biggest Cities (Wake County Schools)Forbes, February 2004#1 Hottest Job Market (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC)Business 2.0, March 2004Hottest Town in the East (Cary, NC)Money Magazine, January 2004#6 Most Fun CityCranium, January 2004#4 Top State for New Business Sites and FacilitiesPlants Sites and Parks, January 2004#13 Hottest Cities (Raleigh-Durham, NC)Expansion Management Magazine, January 2004"A generation from now, in 2020, the region will be home to almost two million people, larger than the present-day Charlotte, San Antonio, Orlando, or New Orleans regions. 2/22/2006 11:36:28 AM
^^^^^^Great job finding all of that...But what about Charlotte's rankings? And can't both cities be nice? I enjoy both.
2/22/2006 11:44:35 AM
"And can't both cities be nice? I enjoy both."I absolutely agree, I think both are great places to live. Obviously people are going to have preferences. But to flat out say one or the other is shitty is incredibly ignorant.I'm not positive about Charlotte's rankings, but I imagine they're all right up there too. They might be higher, in fact. The only point I was trying to make is that on a national scale Raleigh-Durham is recognized as being a great place to live. Charlotte is as well.
2/22/2006 1:09:56 PM
That pic of Charlotte on the last page is wrong. I moved to Charlotte in 1994 and the BofA tower was already built. And yet, I do not see it in that pic.
2/22/2006 1:42:59 PM
I moved to Charlotte early 1995 and was visitting during almost all 1994 and the "Nations Bank Building" was definitely up there
2/22/2006 1:53:34 PM
yeah. construction was finished in 92
2/22/2006 1:56:49 PM
yeah i think the pic is wrong b/c i moved in '91 and it was built soon after[Edited on February 22, 2006 at 4:17 PM. Reason : !]
