jordan was known to be an asshole on the court and in practice, but he maximized the talents of his teammates. i could never see kobe doing that

kobe really screwed himself with the colorado thing. he was a media darling and even people who hated him didn't really have a reason. now we can simply say he's a douche and not even defend the statement

well in my defense, i thought he was a douche well before the colorado incident. he never smiles, and he always does the whole tough act whenever he does something impressive on the court. jordan would flash that smile of his and it made him seem likeable. thats basically what i was referring to. that image of jordan hitting the shot and then running back down the court shrugging with a grin on his face is something i cant even imagine kobe ever doing, even before the colorado incident.

No George Shinn ran organization has ever been good.

Not "back then", not ever. I hate that bastard...and I was sporting my "Fuck Shinn" shirt at the last Hornets game, too

when i saw he scored 81 i didnt know whether to be impressed or just laugh at how pitiful he is

i chose the latter

if kobe is better than jordan, i might as well kill myself now because i will never understand this world

the circular argument about jordan not winning without pippen is comical. pippen never did anything without jordan and probably never would have. those bulls teams were so awesome, you know, with their complete lack of a consistent big man, point guard, and bench

jordan is better at baseball than kobe is at basketball

i agree, kobe knows how to score by himself, but theres alot more to the game than that, especially if you want to win championships

They were just ranking the greatest scorers in the NBA on espn classic

Kobe was 4th, and this is just after his 81pt game
Jordan was on top.

so there you have it, straight from the experts

not that i disagree with them, but i would hardly take anything the "experts" say as gospel. its merely a slightly better informed, more widely broadcast opinion

thats debatable. He's playing the best so far this year, but he wasn't the best player in the league last year. I would group him with a handful of players at the top.

Jordan was clearly the best player in the league for the majority of his career.

couple of article talking about DT and kobe:

haha I love this:

"I didn't have three-pointers and I was playing against better defenders.""

i think dt's full of shit... his game was one of those end of season games that didn't count for much of anything besides trying to wint he scoring title (like david robinson's 71 pt game)... so i kinda doubt that the defense was that intense (i mean, c'mon, have you ever watched games from that era... it's just up and down the court shoot quickly and move on)

(not trying to argue since i like davids 1 and 2 better than kobe)

thats kinda stupid. at least say how many times bryant took 46 shots. i mean as far as i know, its one each, and bryant scored 81 points on his 46 shots. how many did jordan score? obviously not 81.

thats a stupid point, but the rest is pretty good.

Goodness, Chicago isn't that far from Detroit. People up there (amd most everywhere, for that matter) are talking about them winning 70 DAILY. It's been like that since they started 20-3 or whatever it was.

Secondly, he apparently supports Vince Carter's ironic-ass statement. Not only was VC a regular 40-plus scorer at one point, but it's funny that he says ANYTHING about "guys understanding how to play as a team," given the way he loafed on the Raptors in his last 1.5 years there. And last time I checked, VC wasn't exactly an assist, rebound, or steals machine - he's essentially Nick Anderson all over again, only with fewer 3's and more dunks.

I'm not even gonna comment on the Shaq blurb - we all know by now the reasoning behind that move.

they're only 3 games behind pace, and the bulls went on to win 72 that year

i don't think anyone believes that detroit will drop less than 4 more games from here on out, but i could see them not dropping more than 6...

True....rodman kicked a guy in the nuts and got suspended for 11 games....they were 8-3 then....the worst they went....what might have happened?...

We'll see.

I'd like to see them hit 70 wins.

As for Kobe, I feel that way too many people dislike him for way too many of the wrong reasons (he signed with adidas/he ran shaq out of town/he's a click/just because everyone else does), and in the face of his performance last monday, they're finding shit to nitpick at (only 2 assists/the lakers still aren't that great/jordan never took 46 shots/just because).

I'm not a big Kobe fan or anything but it's getting old.

didn't jordan have a gambling problem and have marriage issues with his wife? isn't jordan the very standard we hold kobe to? just because jordan had the ability to cover up his dirty laundry doesn't mean he was exactly saintly, but people love jordan nonetheless.

I'm just DA'ing here, like I said I'm not a kobe fanatic, but shit, what does an '03 rape charge have to do with an '06 historical basketball performance? don't we as a society tend to forgive people that do bad when they follow it up with something good?

Anyway, how about that game tonight? Kobe and Smush Parker kept them in the game, but they ended up losing to the Bobcats. It was a good game to be at. Kobe ended up with 35, but only scored 4 in the 4th quarter. The 35 led everyone (and 12-18 shooting), though Jumaine Jones had a hell of a game with 31 to lead the Bobcats. I'm not a big fan of the NBA, and have only been to 2 games since the Bobcats have been around (both against the Lakers). However, this team can be an entertaining team when they are at full strength. As for Kobe, he needs help.

V That's what I believe too.

bobcats are very entertaining to watch when healthy. gerald wallace alone is worth the price of admission. they play scrappy....good D, decent O. as they are right now though, they are pretty pathetic. glad to see em get a win. at this point, i'd just assume they suck and hopefully get that #1 pick, but a win every month at least would be nice.

^fine, then do not compare raping a girl to gambling.........that’s stupid.....forgive....perhaps true, point? no I see....we do forgive...perhaps to much......is it not true that Kobe in high school was considered a boy scout.....that is gone now...Kobe fucked that up.....the nba comes out every year with the next Jordan.......correct? Kobe was that.....not anymore......when the raptors win the championship this year....then I will be very, very impressed. But that is not going to happen....what Kobe did is awesome.....but everyone needs to settle down.....will the Lakers make the playoffs....maybe...worry about that.....KOBE WILL NEVER WIN A TITLE WITHOUT A SECOND PLAYER.....and he doesn’t want one.....what he has now is exactly what he wanted....he is the star now. Which is the next point....Kobe wasn't even the best player on his fucking team when they won the championship....that was never a question with Jordan....Which goes back to what I said in this thread a long time ago.....when Kobe wins a MVP in the finals I will be amazed. Sit down Listen and learn....I don’t care if people do not listen to you, and I have become one of those people now....because i basketball...you don’t know what the fuck you are talking about.

^^^^your argument is extremely scatterbrained right now, and you really don't make sense at this point... pick a focus and run with it, man seriously...

all along, my point has been that people don't like kobe, many without reason, and despite the awesome game he had, they'll somehow find a way to spin everything negative he's ever done into it, COMPLETELY OVERLOOKING THE FACT THAT HE SCORED THE SECOND-HIGHEST AMOUNT OF POINTS BY AN INDIVIDUAL IN NBA HISTORY.
