Ok, I didn't read every post, but some of you christians are way too defensive. Why can't you have an intelligent conversation without name calling? It's pretty silly of you to try and put down others. you sinners

I read the first post... not too much after that. Here's my partially educated response on this thread (the original post):I agree with your perspective. Not that I agree with you, but based on what you've seen, I'd probably have the same questions about God. You should know that there is a growing movement of Christian activists, both for human and environmental rights. http://www.sojo.net <--for instance.I'm glad that you recognized that not all Christians are self-consumed. That's a really wise statement considering your opinion and it's much appreciated. Just to clear up some terminology for your argument. Its actually based on two religious orientations: extrinsic and intrinsic motivations. Those who are extrinsically motivated by religion are motivated by factors that are self-consumed. So these people live on earth for themselves. People intrinsically motivated by their religion act upon internal motivations that usually stem from their god. Not necessarily to please God, but because I love Him, I am motivated to do things He would have me do (i.e. help feed those who are hungry).Note: These religious orientations aren't only affiliated with Christianity, but with all religions. I'd encourage you to seek out more Christians who are intrinsically motivated. See what they're doing in the world. It's pretty amazing. They're more than just 'nice.'

^It probably seems insulting because you don't understand.I do love people. That's how I'm wired. Becoming a Christian when I was 17 changed my worldview from being self-consumed to others consumed... because I love Him.

eh, I think its ok to not really know everything you believe and still want to discuss it.The rest of us are just lying if we post in here, act like we've got it all figured out, and pretend we'll never change our opinions or beliefs.
