i dont know, that one scene where all the wussy kid had to do was walk out kinda was sickening
1/10/2006 4:32:10 PM
i'll say this- they did a good job of giving you just enough visual gore, and knew when to stop it (just before most people reached their limit for watching it without getting sick). they worked a lot on sounds and suggestions, which actually had a very good effect.i love blood 'n' guts stuff, but this was meant to make you associate with the pain, and it succeeded. it's not a brilliant movie. it's not superiorly thought-provoking. but it kept me entertained. and after i listened to a couple of people bitch about how they didn't like the movie because of what it did, i said "hey, you just spent your money feeding your own sick morbid facination of what you are now labeling as horrible."

I can only imagine what happens when QTarantino tries to be all fucked up and disgusting...
1/10/2006 7:22:35 PM
1/10/2006 7:33:58 PM
well, tarantino didn't direct this. i believe he only produced it.but there IS a scene where "pulp fiction" is playing, dubbed in slovakian, in the background. the voices don't fit the actors at all. and all 5 people in my group started laughing.no one else in the theater laughed. idiots.
1/11/2006 6:30:56 AM
we all laughed at that part
1/11/2006 10:26:54 AM
yo tambien
1/11/2006 10:32:24 AM
That movie was fucked up.Oh, did I just blow all your minds?
1/11/2006 7:09:30 PM
horrible fucking movie.
1/11/2006 7:25:13 PM
i read this thread before i saw the movie, and therefore went in with bad expectations. i was glad i did, because i was pleasantly surprised by it. i thought it was pretty funny at parts, and although the acting and story wasn't incredible, i was very entertained and freaked out by some of the gore.overall, i recommend it
1/11/2006 7:29:43 PM
Believe it or not, their may be a sequel
1/11/2006 7:38:58 PM
i think studios now just churn out sequels till they bomb

I was thinking about it this evening. You know how theater workers are supposed to say "enjoy your movie..." It's just morally wrong to hope somebody enjoys that movie. "I hope you're so fucked up in the head that this gore flick with be fun and entertaining for you. I also hope you don't live next door to me."Edit: The only way I could possibly enjoy it is as a work of art. I haven't seen it, but I've heard enough to know I don't want to.[Edited on January 13, 2006 at 10:55 PM. Reason : .]

You guys said that this movie was pretty tame? Is that because some stuff had to be edited out just so that it could make the R or NC-17 rating?Maybe when the DVD comes out, you can see every last thing. Maybe it will be a lot more fucked up then.I have yet to see this movie, though. And from the sounds of things, maybe I will wait for the DVD.
1/14/2006 1:44:31 AM

SPOILERso was the guy that killed josh and got killed at the end in charge of the whole thing? or was he just a regular customer? Drovkin and i weren't sure what his role was
1/23/2006 3:02:20 PM
just a regular costumer i think.and that movie sucked ass. i was very dissapointed.
1/23/2006 3:03:44 PM
So do you all think i should take this girl out on a date to watch this movie?
1/23/2006 6:48:45 PM
depends on how long you've been dating. if its a first date, fuck no, take her to see something you won't be cringing at
1/23/2006 7:05:51 PM
1/25/2006 12:58:47 PM
well, i will say that the razor whip in PotC grossed me out a lot more than anything in hostel, although i cringed more at the anticipation in hostel
1/25/2006 1:16:00 PM
SPOILERSo the power drill into the knee caps and slashing of the achilles tendons DIDN'T do it for you?
1/25/2006 1:45:22 PM
well, it did, but i was expecting nasty shit like that. jesus having his ribs exposed caught me a little off guard
1/25/2006 1:49:49 PM
1/25/2006 2:21:00 PM
well they did show the drill in the leg for a second, and you saw his ankles come apart, but otherwise it wasn't that bad. the best part was those fuckers getting run over
1/25/2006 3:17:55 PM
1/26/2006 3:31:31 PM
I just spent two or three minutes trying to figure out where there was a razor whip in Pirates of the Carribean.
1/26/2006 3:36:08 PM
Thanks spookyjohn, now I just spent a couple minutes trying to remember a razor whip in pirates of the Carribean. PotC
1/26/2006 5:44:18 PM
As far as achilles injuries goNothing still gets to me like the pencil in the ankle in Evil Dead
1/26/2006 5:50:35 PM
I always hated the scene in Pet Cemetary when the little kid cuts that guy's achilles tendon.

i have got to hand it to Eli Roth. The man knows how to make a horror film. After Cabin Fever, i had expectations of him (gratuitous nudity, sound effects, gore) and all my expectations were met with this movie, although i had heard something about a chainsaw duel so i'm dissappointed that turned out to be a rumor.the dripping sounds and visuals combined with the whistling leading up to the realization of what is dripping (if you hadn't already guessed) and visual of the teeth in a puddle of blood made for a great opening scene as well edited and great overall as the opening credits in se7en (john doe making his diary w/ NIN "closer" soundtrack).i must have seen a completely different "saw" as some of these people. hostel was much more gory than the "saw" i remember.i'm curious as to what (if any) role roth's jewish heritage played in the making of this movie. i think this hits very close to home as the basic theme for the movie:

^thank you. finally someone who appreciated it.
1/28/2006 12:44:59 AM

got around to watching this last weekendthe blow torch to the face was killer
6/5/2006 6:34:38 PM
its seemed like they tried to mock eurotrip in a similar yet opposite way scary movie mocks movies. they made it more serious.I saw the unrated version and i dont see how anyone can call it tame. what movies do you guys who called that tame think are gory? the gore in saw is like the gore in narnia compared to hostel.i loled at the pus coming out of the eye. that was random, non realistic and comical.
