see thats where i disagree. if a girl has a pretty face and a decent body, then to me she's cute. if she has a pretty face and a not so good body, then to me she's "alright." if she's up and down a total trainwreck, then she's a "heifer" or "busted." its not based on what the girl wants to hear, its how i classify them to myself

From my (limited) experiance with guys:
-hot: they just wanted my body
-cute: they enjoyed my company and I make them smile/happy with little stuff (personality factored with physical looks) and its not just to be said to short girls
-pretty: its either just something to say or they're happy with how i look/being seen with me

The best way to figure out a meaning is to pay attention to the context in which he's speaking:
If he is trying to get you naked and calls you hot, he wants your body.
If he is grinning at how you carried the pizza out of the store to the car and calls you cute, he's enjoying spending time with you.
If he is tracing your jaw line with his fingertip and calls you pretty, he's pleased with what he's seeing.
