probably because A) they are better drivers and B) their car is faster

but you know what I and all most of the c6 Z06 owners have in common? we both love the car we drive and there will always be someone faster.

and the best part is an STI IS a z06 when comparing it to a RSX type S.

I can't do a corvette either. The image is a big no-go, but it's not the only one. There's also extra big gulp size, build quality and especially the interior. I fail to see why they don't raise the price of the car by $500 and cover a few more things in leather and/or real alumium. Make things just a tad more substential (in feel at least).

I do have to agree the z06 is a great performing car, and it's a performance bargain. I also think that we are being a bit elitist, afterall that car by any other name (a lotus perhaps?) would allow us to excuse it's short comings in build quality. But alas, it is a Chevy.

I should point out, that there's a number of cars that would handily beat a 1g skidpad # on tires of the dimensions that are on the C6 z06.

its not elitist. Its the fact that its a chevy that makes it have short comings.

lambo, lotus and others are known for shitty build quality too though its just that those names are associated with passion so we ignore that part of the deal.

fuck the first 3 vipers car and driver did a top speed test on caught on fire.

but he does bring up a good point... imagine if you put that much ruber on a miata?
you would have a limitless car. and i'm sure you couldn't get it to free up the rear end in a turn.

i still find it funny that gocarts pull 3g turns all the time but 1 is exciting in a car.

ohh and a ruf cr2 would be a good choice in my book those things rock + you can always upgrade the turbos.

"Fuck some of these guys, the Z06 is unlike almost every other piece of machinery the General has ever made. I'm a GM guy, but I know that my Z28 has some shitty build quality on the interior. But I would never compare my mass-produced streetcar to this masterpiece in motion. Handbuilt motor that makes 505 hp AND gets 26 mpg on the highway. Aluminum frame that makes the bitch lighter than a fucking Ferrrari F430 by almost 70 pounds. It'll hold its own or rape cars that run 2 or 3 times as much as it.

Bang for the buck, its IMPOSSIBLE to beat the Z06. Sure you are gonna see quite a few more of these on the road, but thats because its such a value. I wish I could afford one myself, but I figure I have a much better chance of buying a motor/tranny/axle/frame from a Z06 and building the first Camaro Z06."

Thanks for defending something that no one is attacking. No one is questioning the Z06's performance

If you're referring to vehicle size I don't get it. The Z06 is lighter than every car listed by Queti.

I'm referring to the size, yes, not weight. Z06 could be lighter (2700ish is a good weight IMO), but in the current trend of 3400+lbs "sports" cars, it's actually quite the featherweight. One of the things I don't like about it, and would subjectively include in "size" is the feel of the size of the car. Cabin layout forexample, rear visibility, and to a lesser degree even things like how large the doors are, where the shifter is located and how it's weighted, etcetera- make the car feel, as I put it earlier, big gulp sized. Most of the cars talked about in this particular discussion I really don't care for, with the noted exception of the 911 which I think would make a great only car, but falls short as a toy.

wow thanks for all the comments... a friend of mine has a 911 carrera. i think like a 2002 or something. it isn't a turbo i know. no clue if it is a carrera s or not. my biggest beef with it is the ride... roads down here are not friendly to low riding sports cars. my other friend's corvette seems to ride much easier. i would assume a z06 would ride similarly. i think this weekend, we are going to have a little fun and go to the porsche dealor.

i wasn't saying anything about those cars either. Yes they are gorgeous cars but it is also known that if you aren't wealthy enough to buy 10, don't bother buying 1 because of maintence. along with ferrari.

however, Steve Saleen's S7 is something i'd say has excellent workmanship in it.

I have not driven a c6 z06. I have driven quite a few C5s, and have fooled around with a non z06 c6. The C6 is an improvement in size, obviously, as well as in subjective feel, but it still doesn't feel intimate or "tidy".

exactly, the whole damn interior is plastic and in a lot of cases fits pretty shitty when you really start getting picky, the leather is shit for quality, the fuel gauge almost never work right unless you add techron all the time (problem on the c5's that they did not fix on the c6) and hmm, yeah, i think thats about all i can complain about. driverain wise theyre good cars, handling wise theyre good stock but obviously not the best.

edit: not to mention the column lock problems that GM has still not sent out an effective recall for and the creaky as hell suspension once they get any real mileage on them

hahaha, most tuners I know might put a few heat cycles on a brand new motor at most before throwing it on the dyno..its more like if it was treated like shit the first 5000 miles it was treated even shittier the rest of its life.

What does fooled around with mean?

Btw, I was under the impression that the C6 Z06 is pretty different from the regular C6. More than the difference between the C5 and the C5 Z06.

def. true... difference in C5 and C5 Z06 is pretty much a minor cam and head change, a slightly stronger clutch, different suspension and all were fixed roof...not that big of a deal IMO. I guess they set out to make a real difference between the C6 and C6 Z06

What does fooled around mean? It means you're making it real hard for me not to make jokes about it ...

Feeling the controls, driving, etc. but not flogging it, as I have done with many C5s. I don't think I need to drive a z06 version to tell you that it feels big. The visibility/seating position, etc. are not different. I am not saying it's a bad car by any stretch of the imagination. They're both outstanding in my honest opinion (C5 and C6, z06 and otherwise). They're the ONLY american cars I truly like. I came close to owning one, and might some day still. It just saddens me that they didn't do just a tiny bit more to have a truly world class sports car at a very good price point.

wow, just wow...

how spoiled (or rich) does one have to be to complain about that AND TO SELL A HOT CAR BECAUSE OF THAT?

i will bet my life that even bill gates (or any other mega-rich person) wouldn't complain about that, let alone sell one of his hot cars because of that.

I would love to own a Maybach one day and then post this on a Maybach-owners' forum:

Yeah I owned a Maybach for 5 days.

I sold it and got a Phantom.

That bitch was good. I was spending so much time inside it on the reclining chairs that my wife thought I was having an affair. And then the rainy season started. The damn car doesn't come with umbrellas inside the doors!!! Any one know WTF is up with that???

***********************************************************************************

Anyway, to the poster of this thread:

Do you want a car that places more emphasis on performance as opposed to luxury/amenities, or vice versa?

Because each will give you a separate list of cars.

Off the top of my head:

Performance:

Corvette
Viper
NSX
Porsche (luxurious also)
Elise/Exige

Luxury:

MB AMG models (SL, CLK, SLK)
Maserati

there is a 02 911T in the auto trader here in charleston. 30k miles, new clutch, 6spd awd for 75k. thats very resonable asking price. if you are serious about looking for a car this is a car that would hard to pass up. it says it has many upgrades. like rims, tires, clutch etc....
