Not if Manny goes to the Angels.

manny isn't going anywhere

FYI the trade was Cameron for Nady straight up. I don't like it but I'm willing to give Minaya time to see if it is just a starting point and used to have a bit more flexibility with the payroll..^ I wouldn't say that. I will say he will be playing for one of the following teams w/o a doubt: Red Sox, Indians, Mets, or Angels.
11/16/2005 5:29:06 PM
that's a pretty risky prediction there
11/16/2005 6:24:18 PM
Buster Olney said in his blog he didn't like the Cameron/Nady deal He also had a link to a NY Daily News article that said this doesn't affect a possible Manny trade, because the Sox want Milledge. Apparently, Nady will play some first base with Mike Jacobs. He also said the Padres will probably have to deal Cameron mid-season and there's a 50/50 chance he'll end up with the Yankees.oh yeah, and Torre has tried to contact Brian Giles, I guess the Yanks are set on him to start the season at CF.
11/17/2005 1:59:53 PM
Booo to Brian Giles. I know he's not a bad player and all, but he's 35. That doesn't exactly fit with Cashman's "we're trying to incorporate youth" thing.
11/17/2005 7:01:04 PM
the braves are seriously looking at trevor hoffmani think he'd be a perfect fit for our bullpen, we've got a lot of young kids and we'll be able to give hoffman a chance to be on a winning clubhe's a veteran than can provide some leadership for all the young arms and he'll be able to keep the closer spot warm while lerew/james/devine/whoever gain experience in middle reliefchipper's restructuring should free up 5 or 6 million that will allows to make a run at him we might also be able to hold on to furcal now

Like it matters. They will still have 4 (possibly 5 if Keppinger plays 2B) starting position players who came up through the farm. They have an unlimited budget now with the new network. Also $35M came off the books from last year alone ($16M from Piazza, $5M from declining/resigning Trachsels option, $6.5M from Cameron trade, $6M from Looper, declining Ishii, Graves, Heredia). This would only add 10M more. So right now the payroll is only $80M guaranteed. It is unlikely unless they get Manny they go over $100M even...[Edited on November 21, 2005 at 3:48 PM. Reason : f]

how seriously are the mets looking at delgado
11/21/2005 4:01:14 PM
From what I've heard on the local radio up there I'd say it's more of a 'glance.' I don't think they are willing to part with Jacobs, Petit, and Heilman; which is likely what the Fish will ask for. It's largely dependent on whether or not the Fish can pull off other salary dump trades in the coming weeks. If not that asking price will dramatically come down and the Mets could probably 'steal him' for Heilman and a mid-level prospect..Money isn't a problem but Minaya doesn't want to mortgage the farm (which is refreshing for a Mets GM for once)..
11/21/2005 4:03:54 PM
Holy Shit - Gammons is on SC right now...Beckett and Lowell are going to the BoSox
11/21/2005 7:21:17 PM
thats the stupidest trade ever. the marlins want me to hate them, apparently
11/21/2005 9:46:20 PM
the marlins have put EVERYONE on the trade blockthey've already lost burnett obviouslybeckett and lowell are gone and pierre, delgado, lo duca, castillo, and todd jones are all rumored to the movei can understand why you'd trade away delgado but have pierre and castillo at the top of the lineup is a great combinationcabrerra might be their only bat and their pitching is gonna be shitthey are getting two huge prospects from the sox with ramirez and sanchez though1997 anyone?p.s. the mariners signed kenji jojima today[Edited on November 21, 2005 at 9:54 PM. ^^it's not that bad of a trade. Beckett cant stay off the blisters. Lowell is good defensively but his bat disappeared and his salary is huge (not to mention he's occupying Cabrera's natural position). They get young guys who can help in the future and free up some much needed cap space.
11/21/2005 10:04:29 PM
see this is what sucks... in 97, they got some good guys, nobody all star caliber or anything. they squeak into the playoffs and win it all. they get rid of those guys, but most of em werent even that good. some decent guys on the tail end of their careers for many of their cases. this year though, they have young guys that are just now starting to hit their stride (besides lowell), and they are shippin em off. they've done so well to find this talent and now they are throwing it all away.yea, but they already got a short stop. beckett did all right this season with the blisters. i remember it comin up once. it just sucks to get rid of a guy who's proven he has talent on this level for a "prospect".[Edited on November 21, 2005 at 10:07 PM. 11/21/2005 10:06:34 PM
and that, my friend, is the disadvantage of the smaller market clubs
11/21/2005 10:10:22 PM
11/21/2005 10:18:36 PM
ramirez is a top 10 prospectand the sox really need a good starter, hopefully beckett can stay healthyi think think this is a good trade for both clubs
11/21/2005 10:20:08 PM
the BoSox are giving up some huge talent in the 2 minor league guys...plus another player to be named later
11/21/2005 10:54:43 PM
yeah huge talent, but they had to give up Hanley Ramirez eventually anyways with that huge contract they gave to Edgar
11/21/2005 11:30:04 PM
Millwood, Byrd, and Delgado to the Orioles
11/22/2005 1:36:54 AM
New Rumor I have just been made aware of:Marlins get: SP. Carl Pavano, Yankee ProspectWhite Sox get: 1B. Calos Delgado, cash from YankeesYankees get: CF Rowand, Sox prospect
11/22/2005 10:15:53 AM
That's interesting. It definitely addresses the the Yankees' CF issues, but doesn't it assume the WS won't get Konerko back? Or would they just use Delgado as DH?If Pavano goes, then the rotation would be Johnson, Mussina, Wright, Chacon and Wang. I'm OK with that, except there are still so many questions about Wright. I know Pavano hadn't done much either, but I guess I was just more comfortable with him than Wright. And I'm not really crazy about giving up prospects unless it's a mid-level prospect and not a great one. We're an old team. Doesn't help to give away the young guys who might help.[Edited on November 22, 2005 at 10:30 AM. Reason : ]
11/22/2005 10:29:59 AM
Who cares about young guys when they can practically buy anyone they want?
11/22/2005 10:38:33 AM
*sighI didn't know people were still having this argument. Because the last time the Yankees won the World Series it was with a team that was fueled by young, home-grown players, not high-priced free agents. Buying an all-star team doesn't mean buying championships. The Yankees kicked the big spending into gear in 2001 and haven't won a championship since then. If they keep building a team ONLY on high-priced free agents, they won't win. And I think George is finally understanding that again. After his teams have success, he kind of feels like he's invincible. After winning in 1977 and 1978, it happened -- the whole Bronx Zoo deal. He finally came back to reality and by the mid-90s, we had a young, home-grown team that won four out of five World Series titles. Then he got to feeling invincible again, and we see where that's gotten us.That's why.
11/22/2005 10:44:48 AM
I understand that.To be honest, I don't think 'ol Georgie is really learning, and I still don't see him doing that for a while. It's like he and the Bo Sox owner are vying to see who's willing to spend the most money to get the "best talent" (Mets are now in the race too, the way they've been in talks with seemingly everyone)
11/22/2005 10:51:34 AM
11/22/2005 10:53:43 AM
What does that deal accomplish for the White Sox?Isn't Rowand a better player than Pierre? Sure Pierre is fast, but the White Sox have Podsednik. The whole reason the buzz around Pierre died is because he sucks getting on base. I wonder why Chicago would consider that.
11/22/2005 11:45:46 AM
salary dump.
11/22/2005 1:08:01 PM
Wagner held a press conference with Minaya. The Mets will offer him a deal (details withheld) this afternoon. He probalby will mull it over but I am 99% sure he'll be a Met..Oh and if the Yanks get Giles then ARod and Jeter need to watch their cornholes..[Edited on November 22, 2005 at 1:19 PM. Reason : f]

11/25/2005 11:57:08 PM
Yeah, I was pretty mad about the O's not trying to re-sign Ryan, but after seeing that shit I'm glad they didn't try. That is way too much money for a closer, albeit a good one, but the closer is the most overrated position in baseball, you can find them anywhere and for much less than 9 million a year... GG Toronto
11/26/2005 12:15:20 PM
So just to keep it all in here we gotThome for RowandDelgado for Jacobs/PetitRyan to Toronto (surprising to me) -- The Jays pulled a 'Benson.' Set the market for closers..

11/28/2005 11:11:35 PM
The NY Mets are throwing some serious money around to fill holes and attempt to contend.Hmm... reminds me of some other team.
11/29/2005 12:08:54 AM
i posted this in the braves thread too, but what the hell
11/29/2005 12:21:42 AM
^^ Not really. I mean the payroll will still be less then the luxury tax threshold and if Manny Ramirez isn't attained it will be less then last year even. They cleared 16M from Piazza, 5M from Trachsel (reduced salary this year), 7M from Cameron, 3M from Ishii, and 5M from Looper. They had plenty of payroll flexibility and filled two distinct needs.^ What media picked the Mets the last 3 years? None that I know of. In fact on ESPN they had a 16-media member preseason picks thing and only ONE had the Mets in the playoffs in 2005 and even that was as the Wildcard.Also. I wonder why more teams aren't taking a hard look at Octavio Dotel. He is ahead of schedule on his rehab from TJ Surgery and will be 100% by opening day. In this day and age I'd hardly call taking a guy coming off of TJ a gamble and he has shown he has vey good stuff. He probably can be had cheaply. Whoever gets him on the cheap will get a very good pickup. I kind of hope the Mets or Red Sox look at him for a setup role even..[Edited on November 29, 2005 at 8:24 AM. Reason : f]

GG Mets, just wait 2 years when all of these contracts become "bad" and you will sink like a pair of lead boots to the bottom of the East River. You still don't have any starting pitching past Pedro... good luck!
