i like how they kind of made it look like ceasar and octavian had just got done fucking after ceasar had his seizure, the woman just saw ceasar and octavian come out of the room after hearing ceasar moaning and groaning from inside the room. funny stuff

I don't think that's the angle they were going for - rather that Caesar's secret was going to become a rumor

Actually I think that's exactly what they were going for. On the preview for this week there was a scene where Atia was implying that Octavian had seduced "him". It didn't say who "him" was in that clip, but from what we've seen thus far, I think its safe to assume that the cook told her she heard him in the pantry with Ceasar.

yea if that's the angle they're going for then that doesn't sound like much of a conflict - everyone knows he's gay anyway so why care that he's gettin it on with Caesar?

no i didn't

the editing of that slave scene made it clear that its not good that she overheard them

if its about gayness then i can't see why its not good that she overheard them

Octavian was Caesar's adoptive son in actual history, wasn't he?

I know he was the first emperor.

its no big deal back then if caesar was gay or not - and even if he wasn't gay it still wasn't a big deal for him to be getting it on with young men

because it was no big deal, it was harumphed off by the passer-by maid. epilepsy is a big deal. better the passer by think is gayness than epilepsy.

that was the intention of the way the plot unfolded. do you get it now?

YES I KNOW

what i'm saying is that it is bad editing to edit the servant scene as though its a BAD THING for her to have overheard it and think that its gay sexing

^^No one really said it was looked on as a bad thing. Romans used sex as a means of gaining power and influence as much as they used it for anything else. They also didn't really seem to frown on homosexuality the way much of the world does today. It just gives Ceasar an out if nothing else to cover for his medical problems.

^I'd just about bet on it. The story seems to be moving that way, and on the preview of what's to come, it was either him, or a guy that looked just like him back in his military uniform in a scene I don't remember from the first 4 episodes.

^^ that is what I'm trying to say!!!!!!!! jesus!

it wasn't a bad thing back then, but if you watch the last scene where the slave woman sees caesar leaving the bedroom, you can CLEARLY tell that it was edited to have a very ominous feel to it.

SO WHY EDIT IT TO SEEM OMINOUS

when all its about is gay sex

I didn't really see it as ominous, more surprise that shy little Octavian had "seduced" someone as powerful as Ceasar. I guess we'll see this week which way they take it.

They are her slaves. It is Latin for the feminine form of the word "master." Obviously her husband is dead, so he probably bequethed all of his possessions (including the slaves) to her.

thank god Christianity came on the scene to narrow our minds

ya there is a huge part of philosophy on how the mindset of humanity changed when we went from gods who were respected but seen as very humanlike in quality to a god/gods that were split into good and evil (i.e. the invention of hell)

anyway, how does episode 3 end? the version i have is only 42 minutes long and it end with caeser marching on rome and asking the band to play something more cheerful then it abrubtly cuts off. am i missing anything?

I like the way they make Octavian very logical, knowledgable of polictics, and articulate, yet he's still a bitch.

but they probably have some sort of plot twists that will keep pushing the battle out to "next week's" episode

Homosexuality was punishable by death in the Roman Army at the time, so yeah... half you people have no clue what you are talking about. They were a lot more open about regarding sexuality, but held very firm views on things considered immoral.

The man and youth love, which is Greek not Roman, is Pederasty, which most historians agree did not involve penetration, and has been twisted by some groups in our society to fit their views about homosexuality in antiquity.

Overall the show is ok, but seems more about fucking than about war, politics, or Roman life.
