at least they "sold out" the game last sunday
9/22/2005 9:23:16 PM
that was a pretty fun gameour goalie looks pretty damn good
9/22/2005 10:04:00 PM
Obviously John Grahame didn't watch Matt Cullen's penalty shot from last night.
9/22/2005 10:08:49 PM
i might be *gasp* turning into a hockey fan with all of these rules changesseems like the games will be higher scoring and more excitingDEATH TO ZERO-ZERO TIES
9/22/2005 10:42:02 PM
Went to the game tonight against Tampa Bay...it was great. The RBC center was nearly empty, but we played awesome. That Cole-Vasicek-LaRose line is going to be awesome this year. I think the rules really help out the game, it's so fast and exciting. Hot dogs, beer, and hockey...I'm so glad its back!
9/22/2005 11:22:07 PM
will larose play? ive never heard of him before tonight. fill me in
9/22/2005 11:38:04 PM
i think its safe to say that this will be the best team in hockey this season
9/23/2005 12:05:24 AM
has ne1 noticed that cullen does the same move every shootout and works flawlessly...how long do u think it will take for goalies to pick up on it?
9/23/2005 12:43:07 AM
if i had to guess, i'd say 3 weeks
9/23/2005 12:47:30 AM
who was in goal tonight?i went to the 1st 3 games (total of 15 nature boy WOOOOOOOOOOO! WOO WOOOOOOOOO!s) and have had a lot of fun. i am now more of a canes fan than i ever have been before. still a pens fan first, but i will go to many canes games this year i think.
9/23/2005 1:15:57 AM
gerber was between the pipes tonight

Against Matt Cullen, there's no way for the goalie to win unless he gets VERY lucky. Cullen has a deadly combination of skills for a shootout: an accurate wrist shot and a believable shoulder drop. While he might become famous for the fake, a goalie can't become complacent. The goalie has to respect Cullen's first move, because if he convinces himself that a shoulder drop is coming and that he shouldn't react to it, he'll get toasted on a first move shot. Either way, he has to commit to something, and that's when the accuracy takes over.On top of all that, I guarantee you Cullen has at least two more sure fire moves he can pull out.Don't be surprised if you see something on ESPN later this year about Matt Cullen, Shootout King.

Actually, the only sure thing you could say is Washington is going to have a shitty year. There's too many other strong teams to say any particular one is a sure fire bet to succeed. While I'd love to see the Canes do well, they haven't really even been tested yet. All i know is I see a loss coming for the canes on the 26th

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2170199The feminazis are upset about the new NHL ads. Thanks ladies, when the news networks and ESPN pick up this story that means the ads will get some free airtime.

A SHORTY penalty shot goal, no less.

...which is why they replaced both goaltenders, half the defense, and a third of the forwards.
9/24/2005 2:35:28 AM
well its a good start
9/24/2005 2:50:03 AM
It's worth pointing out right now that three of the top four preseason scorers in the NHL are Carolina Hurricanes (Hutchinson #1, Zigomanis #2, Vasicek #4). Obviously, the big guns in the league aren't playing a lot, but all of these guys are racking up 2+ points per game.[Edited on September 24, 2005 at 2:53 AM. Reason : d]
9/24/2005 2:53:34 AM
A lot of our veterans are dealing with strained groin muscles. Hopefully they will get healthy and get some playing time on our road trip.
9/24/2005 8:32:01 AM
Chad LaRose had another goal tonight in the 'Canes 4-2 loss to the Thrashers. Eric Staal had the other goal. Cam Ward was in net stopping 20 shots on goal. The Thrashers had Dunham in goal.
9/24/2005 9:35:55 PM
The 'Canes assigned more guys to Lowell today. Forwards Gordie Dwyer, Colin Forbes, and Dave Gove and defenseman Bruno St. Jacques. The roster is now down to 26. They had the day off today to do some team bonding stuff and have supper together. The 'Canes only have two preseason games left before opening the season up in Tampa on October 5th.
9/26/2005 8:51:02 PM
yay for Ladd getting a contractthe very safe bet is that we won't end up last in the division[Edited on September 27, 2005 at 10:31 PM. Reason : d]
9/27/2005 10:31:08 PM
But as of right now he's still hurt. I hope he gets better soon. I wonder how many players we are going to carry on our roster and if any are going to start the season on the IR. Who do you guys think will be sent back to Lowell?
9/27/2005 11:36:04 PM
Ladd will go down for sure, one of the defensemen will probably be moved (most likely Ward), and LaRose/Nordgren/Boulerice will be the last one taken from the top 12.
9/30/2005 1:21:02 AM
The 'Canes made their final roster cuts. Andrew Ladd, Chad LaRose, and Danny Richmond were all assigned to Lowell. Here's the roster they are going to start the seaon with on Wednesday.Forwards: Matt Cullen Justin Williams Eric Staal Ray Whitney Kevyn Adams "A" Rod Brind'Amour "C" Mike Zigomanis Radim Vrbata Erik Cole Jesse Boulerice Niklas Nordgren Cory Stillman "A" Josef Vasicek Defensemen: Glen Wesley "A" Aaron Ward Frantisek Kaberle Bret Hedican Niclas Wallin Mike Commodore Andrew Hutchinson Oleg Tverdovsky Goalies: Martin Gerber Cam Ward

GODDAMN that is a balanced set of forwards. I love it.

So are they broadcasting any of the games in HD on the fox channel this year? Or not?
10/3/2005 9:47:38 PM
I can't believe they got Craig Adams back! The people that sit behind me were looking forward to going out to Anaheim to see Craig play.'Canes open the season on Wednesday at Tampa! Go 'Canes!!! YAY!!!I can't wait!!! I love hockey!!!
10/3/2005 9:52:42 PM
^they still will have to go to Lowell to see craig play.
10/3/2005 11:56:59 PM
^ This is true. I wanna go up to Lowell, but I just can't find a game to go up there and watch that fits into my schedule.
10/4/2005 12:30:20 AM
Then wait for a Norfolk game. Those are fun because you can get in fights with cowboys.
10/4/2005 1:19:39 AM
10/4/2005 7:21:54 AM
The prospect of a new affiliation is nice because I like the idea of being able to see the Canes' prospects in Norfolk any time I want, but I'm also scared that Mama and The Cowboy are going to be Canes prospect fans.
10/4/2005 7:25:38 AM
^^^The don't come down to Norfolk until Jan. 6th & 7th. The 'Canes are home on the 6th and play in NY on the 7th. I might be able to catch the game on Jan. 7th, but I think going to Lowell will be more fun!

http://hdsportsguide.com lists some games on HDNET and some games on FSN-HDhttp://www.newsobserver.com/sports/hurricanes/story/2781222p-9219959c.htmlthat N&O article still has negotiations ongoing for local HD broadcastsless than 12 hours [Edited on October 5, 2005 at 9:49 AM. Reason : d]
10/5/2005 9:49:13 AM
Not exactly the best start to the season for Martin Gerber.
10/5/2005 9:30:08 PM
at least 2 of the goals weren't his fault, the first was a gorrible breakdown then theres the one that hit somebodys skate
10/5/2005 9:34:02 PM
^^^ The FSN-HD games are only available in the other teams market (we dont have FSN-HD here), and it appears that blackout rules apply to the HDNet broadcasts, assuming FSN is carrying that game in our region. inHD had tonights OLN game, but Im not sure if that was a one time thing or what (it wasnt even listed in the guide).
10/5/2005 10:49:44 PM
so i think i may actually pay attention to carolina this year...how good of a chance do they have ?and a dumb question. WHat is offsides. DOes it work the same way as it is in soccer?
