gj. I used to play goal for roller hockey. I was ok, but really only did it because I had the equipment and everyone else was scared of the punk. I was stand up till they get too close then you have to go down. and i have been known to pull a human slinky hasek.

And imo, we bitch a lot about getting knocked around because we can. haha. plus, it is harder to fight with all those pads.

and Roy vs. Osgood was my favorite goalie fight http://www.funfry.com/showphoto.php/photo/2437

Where do you play?

why do yall always bite on the shoulder drop?

^ Because the shoulder drop usually comes at some point from the top of the circles in, the point of distinction between the "reaction" zone and "blocking" zone for the butterfly goalie. From the circles in, if a shot is coming, there's no time to wait and see where it's going to go, and a shoulder drop is an indication of a shot if you're focused on the puck. At that point, there's no time to do anything but try to drop and block as much net as possible. Even if there's not a full bite into butterfly on the shoulder drop, the goalie's first rule is "always make the shooter move first," and a good shoulder drop looks as much like a move as anything else.

I'm trying to condition myself out of it, but it's hard when the fake is good.

^^ Cary Ice House, Garner Ice House, Factory Ice House (Wake Forest), RecZone, IcePlex, Hillsborough SportsPlex, etc.

1. I played yesterday afternoon and took a slapshot to the thumb, making it hard to hold my stick effectively.
2. I hadn't seen my g/f in three days.

Some specifics (the new agreement is 600+ pages):

-Salary range: $21-$39 mil per team, any one player can't take up more than 25% of team salary (it might be 30%, I forget).
-Rookie salary cap reduced from $1.2 mil to $850,000.
-Minimum salary raised from $175,000 to $450,000.
-Free agency reduced to seven years from rookie season.
-Goaltender's equipment reduced in total area by 11%.
-Two line pass rule abolished.
-Tag-up offsides instituted.
-Goaltenders cannot handle the puck behind the goal line outside of a marked zone.
-Goals pushed back to 11 feet from the end boards.
-Neutral zone made smaller.
-New (idiotic) instigator rule in last five minutes of the game.
-3-man shootouts if regular season game is tied after OT.

Season starts Oct. 5 with all 30 teams playing in one night. Hurricanes plays away at Tampa.

Hurricanes home opener is Oct. 7 against the newly-revitalized Pittsburgh Penguins (Lemieux, Recchi, Crosby, Malkin, Palffy, Fleury).

There is a free preseason game at the RBC on Sept. 18th at 3 PM...just show up and get in free.

I like it all. The equipment was the first thing that made me want to be a goalie.

At this point, I'll say the pads and pants, because pads are cool and the pants are big and square, and "square pants" makes me laugh.

No, but there were 20-some penalties in one of the B-league games tonight, including a match penalty (which means automatic suspension and a hearing with USA Hockey) for calling the ref "a stupid fucking cocksucking dickheaded fuckjob of a moron" and breaking a stick on the ice in frustration.

This team of guys I play pickup with are one of the best squads I've seen as far as playing pest goes. Little slashes everywhere, piss the other team off and rack up the power play time. With that said, they're awful chippy in their own right, but they almost never do anything stupid or let the retaliation get to them. It's quite brilliant. BTW, that quote was just what's on the USA Hockey report, dude was cursing at the ref for a good two minutes solid, and on top of that, the family of one of the players on the team that had two guys get tossed got tossed themselves by the ref for bitching about game control. I had to threaten to call the cops over the PA.

NEVAR!!!

1. They're expensive.
2. What I really want won't match my team (an NC State variation on Roy's Habs mask, mostly stripes, a block S, and a #1).

I was playing at the Reczone on Wednesday night, I couldn't do 4 games in a week though. Too much with school and all. I've been looking for some good pick-up games, but they all have sucked lately. Like 5-6 guys show up.

I work at the plex, so free leagues. I don't like the big surface either. I like skating at the Factory, although it is really loud in there. Hard to get used to.

Thursday/Friday at noon at the Reczone is usually pretty good. I have class then this semester, but I went regularly for almost a year and there's usually at least 12 guys, closer to 20 on good days.

Yeah, i have class too. I went to the Reczone a few times Fri./ Sat night, but it sucked. 2 hour pick-up, with less than 10 guys usually. And the Reczone doesn't have an age restriction so alot of kids would show up.

I go to those here and there. Some weeks are great, other suck. The Friday afternoon is mostly A/B guys and they play really hard, so it's a lot of fun.

I've been going out to the Factory on Fridays, I think its at 6pm, its been ok. usually around 10 guys, sometimes 2 goalies. But its so dahm far to drive, especially during that time of day. I think i'm going again this Friday. I have a friend that lives like 5 minutes away, so he always calls me to come out. You should come out if you can.
