The mtv special gave me almost no reason to buy the 360(other than look its cool and look we have a band), but information in this thread and links are getting me to reserve a 360!!!

the fact remains that nintendo makes the best games on the market.

Well, i've read 2 things recently from the Nintendo guy (Iriwata, or something, I think) that he said Nintendo is going to try for the more mature gamer the next round... but he has also said that the "revolution" is going to be something that when a mother sees her kid playing a game, she's going to think "wow that looks fun, I want to try that". It seems to be pulling in 2 directions. But, until Nintendo says more about what this "revolution" will be, I think it will be hard to say how the consoles will shape up as far as marketshare.Xbox will get a big jump from the Christmas season, but I bet this is mostly the spoiled-brat market, which is small in the slice of gamers. The hardcore gamers will hold on until the PS3.

It wouldn't surprise me if the next Nintendo offering trumped the next Sony offering in every way.The GameCube is already better than the electrical abortion known as the PS2.

Nintendo 4 life. Ride or die.

i hope they still make a big version of the xbox controller

ah I swore I'd never buy an x-box, but the 360 might be the only affordable thing that'll be able to run TES4: Oblivion in all it's prettyness. I may end up buying it just for that.[Edited on May 13, 2005 at 6:50 PM. Reason : speeeeeling]

The nifty clips of video games supporting Microsoft's new game console aren't running on Xbox 360 systems. Demonstrations for the Xbox 360 have been running on Apple machines, the company confirmed on Friday.
"We purchased a number of Apple G5's because very specific hardware components of the G5 allow developers to emulate some of the technology behind future Xbox products and services," an official Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement. "This is an interim development tool that will be replaced with a more powerful and comprehensive solution later."
The current systems shown at product introductions are prototypes. Final systems are expected to come out in all three major regions--North America, Europe and Asia--by the end of the year.
Pricing for the new consoles has yet to be announced, but executives have said they won't be released until after the E3 game conference in Los Angeles next week.
Some details have been released on the new console, such as its 20GB hard drive, DVD-ROM drive and 500MHz ATI graphics processor, but others will be announced during the conference. Executives have said that up to 40 titles for the Xbox 360 will be announced by the end of the year.
The new console from Microsoft is based on a similar IBM PowerPC architecture used in Apple computers--the Xbox 360 uses three 3.2GHz symmetrical cores, according to the company. Apple has been using PowerPC chips since 1994 and Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs has said the company is happy with IBM's PowerPC family of chips.
Microsoft recently switched processors from an Intel chip used in the first Xbox console to a custom Xbox processor based on Big Blue's Power technology in its new Xbox 360.

Nintendo "revolutions" is going to have wireless gaming - not a bad idea, but i could hook up the xbox wirelessly right now, if i wanted to, for about 20-30 bucks.and what's with all the names being so similar? like a totally new side of gaming in its entirety - 360, revolution, haha only ps3 is left out.http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=technologyNews&storyID=8491281

I will go as far to say that nintendo is only alive after the gamecube and DS flops because of brand loyalty. the gamecube's only redeeming factor is that it could handle n64 games with a decent frame rate. people aren't going to buy whatever the fuck nintendo is making, just for the same rehashed games that they first enjoyed on snes. I predict that unless nintendo gets a really solid library for DS, which is doubtful, they're going to go the way of sega. maybe not as quickly since they made piracy a bit harder, but they will not make it past this upcoming generation without seriously changing their business model and making their dev kits really desirable to the big game makers and innovative upstarts.

^sorry, I mistyped I meant to say the DS and whatever nintendo's new system is. nintendo's old library is getting old and people are tired of just prettier versions of old games. after totally fucking up zelda, a lot of fans were lost. the future of consoles isn't little kids anymore, its the 16-30 male demographic, which nintendo doesn't have a strong following amongst. that's why I said if they don't change up their library and focus, they're gonna go the way of sega and end up just making their niche software for other consoles.also, the gamecube doesn't even begin to compare to the ps2 in terms of graphics exhibited, hinting at a shitty devkit and the reason gc is lacking a lot of big name games that ps2 and xbox have. besides that, the gamecube has 6 good games, and they're all first party. the ps2 has, gt3, gt4, the grand theft auto series, tons of great platforms that rival mario and metroid but I can't claim beat them (jak and daxter, rayman, and others), they've got sports covered, they've got rpg's on lock with the final fantasy series, unlike ninteno with 0 rpg's of redeeming value, they only thing the ps2 doesn't have is a solid FPS like xbox. the gamecube is really a piece of shit and could have just sold with a hard drive containing all the first party games people like and been of the same functionality as the one sold today.[Edited on May 14, 2005 at 8:00 PM. ^ eh, I agree with alot of that in terms of the trends you see developing, but I think there'll always be a place for what nintendo offers. those party games and family friendly games just aren't really there on the other consoles. if x-box 360 or ps3 were to launch with something as easy to pick up and play with a group of people drunk as smash brothers, mario kart, etc. and some decent family appropriate titles beyond the run of the mill platformers, then nintendo might be forced to go the way of sega. just remember though, you can have niche hardware producers too.

all you damn nintendo fan boys are the same. no one, NO ONE, raves about gamecube graphics but fan boys. there is no gamecube offering with stellar graphics that even come close to rivaling metal gear solid, god of war, gran turismo 3 and 4, etc. if nintendo was a force with a decent following, or if their devkit was easy enough to port games to, how come gc misses out on 90% of the big titles from production houses with no first party affiliation?[Edited on May 16, 2005 at 11:56 AM. Reason : the only people that can sort of program for nintendo hardware... are nintendo]\/ that said, no one is able to make a really good lookin GC game but nintendo and they aren't even all that, referencing metroid here. if you know one of the big draws of your game is graphics, but you can't get the same results on gamecube, why invest in it, especially with gamecube pulling up the rear in market share. Nintendo is quite thoroughly screwed. After all is said and done, Microsoft and Sony are seen as the market leaders in home consoles. Both of these corporations have cash valued more then Nintendo itself.Furthermore, there is no PSP and DS comparison because the PSP is infinitely a better machine graphics wise and industrial design. Consider again the market reality that the PSP sold more units then the GC and DS combined (hell throw in the Xbox into the mix to make it exciting). The Gameboy Advance which did do extremely well did so in a market with no real competitors. The Gameboy 3 will have a very serious competitor in the PSP and judging from how well Nintendo did with N64 and Gamecube against strong competition, I wouldn't hold my breath for a Nintendo comeback.I also believe that the console market is moving towards becoming the central computer of a home entertainment system. Both Sony and Microsoft have complimentary products in this field that can include their respective sytems as a part of a larger entertainment system. Nintendo on the other hand specializes only in game hardware and worse yet, pigeonholed themselves as a kiddie centric developer.

^ wonderswan and wonderswan color have been sucessful in their own right but havent done much stateside. the reason why? gameboy, and its many other iterations, has just been better. sony has a serious shot now though i think, regardless if i dont really like the psp
5/16/2005 12:55:31 PM
meh, nintendo offers something that sony and microsoft just don't in their hardware. nintendo hardware is cheap, intuitive, and easy to live with. the next nintendo, by all accounts, will be roughly the size of three dvd cases stacked on top of each other and will probably be priced below both the ps2 and x-box again. the family friendly and games-for-all-ages titles they hold are some of the best of that kind availible. there's not alot of them, and no serious gamer considers the gamecube their primary gaming platform, but most consumers aren't serious gamers anyways. sure their market share as a percentage of the total will continue to shrink if they don't adress the needs of the more afluent and increasingly numerous 16-32 year old males that make up a huge ammount of video game purchasing power, but I don't see the need for what they offer being filled by anyone else right now or goig away anytime soon either.PSI hate the gamecube and all the exclusive titles on it. God damnit people, there's better games out there than smash brothers. Do not take over the living room telelvision for 40 hours a week playing it. [Edited on May 16, 2005 at 1:26 PM. Reason : ]

^ that last statement doesn't make sense man. What's wrong w/ Smash Bros? Sure, it may not be everyone's favorite game but it IS fun in multiplayer.
