There's nothing wrong with wanting the team to do better. It doesn't make you a bad fan. But it can make you a stupid fan. A lot of people who actually wants the team to do better has some very high and nearly unrealistic standards. Anything short of a championship is unacceptable. That is a problem when it's the same standard year in and year out. The same people eating crow because we made it to the sweet 16 are probably screaming for his head because we were leading at the half.Personally, I felt that we've constantly overachieved for the last three years. We've been able to recruit good players, but not great players. Our "great" players have turned out to be busts for the most part. The reason we've done so well without a lot of marquee talent is the fact that we play well as a team. In that sense, I have to give credit to Herb. I also give the players credit because they play hard...they have to in order to stay with the better teams. They usually embrace Herb's philosophy and system and things work out pretty well that way.The team has continued to progress through the years. We've made it to the dance 4 straight years. We're not always bowing out in the first round either. Ya know, Wake Forest hasn't gotten to or passed the sweet 16 for quite some time now, but you don't seem them crying for Skip Prosser's head...and they have better talent too.

aaronburro - you are clue-less
3/25/2005 11:12:58 PM
yeah. I guess seeing the common denominator of our mediocrity over my 6 years of watching us and pointing it out makes me clueless...I guess I'm clueless if I think that missing FTs is a bad thing. I guess I'm clueless if I think that consistently blowing double digits leads is bad. I guess I'm clueless for thinking that jacking up threes for no good reason from half court is bad.
3/25/2005 11:14:47 PM
^ We did lead the league in FT% last year. I wouldn't blame Herb for that one...I'm sure they still practice them just as much as they did before. With #2, I put that more on the players. They simply can't play great for 40 straight minutes. As far as #3 goes...yeah, there is no reason for that unless the guys name is JJ or Salim.
3/25/2005 11:20:34 PM
If we had last year's regular season (even if we were alone or tied for 3rd, or alone in 4th... like 10-6 or 9-7 in ACC, no bad OOC losses) and this year's S16 then I'd say great. If that was our AVERAGE season, then I'd have no problem. We always find some way to fuck up something. We are not always good and good. We are bad and bad (Herb's 1st 5 years), mediocre (year 6 and 7), bad and good (this year, 9), or good and bad (last year, 8).[Edited on March 25, 2005 at 11:26 PM. Reason : .]

WHO CARES!???! HERB IS STAYING AND I HOPE ALL YOU HERB HATERS CRY AND WHINE ABOUT IT!!!!
3/25/2005 11:39:04 PM
even better, cry and whine about it so much that you sell your tickets to fans who will willingly show up to EVERY game, regardless of who we are playing, and wear red.then again, maybe i am expecting too much.
3/25/2005 11:50:25 PM
3/26/2005 9:39:54 AM
Marcus and Scooter were a BIG reason why we had such a great FT% as a team.
3/26/2005 11:57:00 AM
aaronburro, you are one of those fans w/ that terrible inferiority complex.to coach w/in NC in the ACC w/ the talent we have takes an incredible feat.to be the 4th school (reality here) out of Duke, UNC and Wake, we pull the best we can get and you should understand that it takes years to even make it to the final four unless you have one of those special teams and/or get lucky. lets not get talking about how long it takes to build a program and build a system. herb didnt miss the lay ups, didnt miss the free throws, didnt cause all the players to get hurt or sick.its not herbs fault that JP left the team early.when the team doesnt get to play as a full team and accomplishes what we have accomplished, to some degree you have to respect the man.he may be inconsistant, but all coaches are at one time...if it was as easy to go down to KMart and get a coach K, im sure we would.but Herb is our man, and bitch and moan all you want, but guess what?the AD likes him, the TEAM LOVES him and unless he decides to leavehe will be our coach for a couple of more years.

our performance this off-season is absolutely unacceptable. we must do better. herb simply can't keep blowing the late practice water-cooler situations. A change must be made to gatorade cups instead of powerade!
