Just a friendly warning. Don't get your hopes up too high.

Go back and watch the teasers trailers for PHANTOM and ATTACK, they were both pretty incredible in their own right. Even after seeing how much those movies sucked, the trailers still look exciting.

what ticked me off is that after watching so many of the trailers and previews for AOTC, i didn't see anything new in the movie. i felt like i had seen it all. so besides this one, i'm going to stay away from the rest of the trailers.

special effects and fighting do not a great movie make. repeat this to yourselves, people. The things that really made the first trilogy great are

1. imaginative universe
2. groundbreaking effects
3. the excellent acting and chemistry between all major and minor cast members.

episode 1 and 2 maybe had some of 1, but nothing close to the other two points. reality check will hit us in the theater; lucas simply has lost the touch.

^^Having the first fully CGI character with an unprecedented level of interaction with the actors is groundbreaking, even if he was pretty much the worst character ever.

I wouldn't call the acting excellent in the first trilogy. Good, yes, excellent, ummm, nah.

You know....the whole Darth Vader changeover is kinda silly lookin'. With what our present day concepts of futuristic and all are "Darth Vader" looks dated and almost silly. IMHO anyway. Decent trailer though, but I probably won't waste money on the movie in theaters

Star Wars isn't meant to look futuristic, just alien. It's set in a time and place far removed from our own, actually in the past.

Some societies in the Star Wars universe have developed techonologies that appear futuristic to us, but many if not most of them are primitive compared to ours, such as the Massassi, Noghri, Ewoks, etc.

P.S. STAR WARS IS FANTASY YOU FOOL

I would say Star Wars is Scifi/fantasy but lets be honest here, its really the story of the first one that made it great.

A solid execution of good vs evil with cool toys thrown in.

Science fiction implies that a given scientific phenomenon is the basis for the story. Can you name any central plot device of Star Wars that qualifies, or cite any instances wherein the fictitious technology is discussed/elaborated upon?

No, you can't. Lightsabers could just as easily be magic swords, starships could just as easily be nautical craft, Gamorreans could just as easily be orcs, etc. Star Wars is solid fantasy, and while the magic (the Force) exists alongside fantastic technology, that doesn't make it science fiction.

No. Just no. You could not be more wrong if you tried.

And tech in Star Wars, fantasy though it is, actually makes more sense than tech in Trek

sad but true

and who's to say there wasn't a time when things were more advanced than they are now

just like the people of Atlantis had complicated computers and shit that we don't know about

The Death Star is a central plot device, but it's simply a fantastic weapon, much like the One Ring. You don't hear anyone in the trilogy talking about how it's kind of like a Dyson sphere or anything else remotely sci-fi. The science isn't explored at all.

Same goes for the Millennium Falcon. Sure, Solo mentions that it's fast, but it may as well be a boat for as much as any of the films elaborate on what principles are behind its operation. Science fiction is concerned with the implications of technology, and that is definitely not the theme of the Star Wars saga.
