10/12/2004 9:09:44 PM
i gotcha rally
10/12/2004 9:10:10 PM
holy crap
10/12/2004 9:13:09 PM
whats wrong jeremy, don't like the yankees?
10/12/2004 9:16:21 PM
Red Sox are the best hitting team in baseball...I don't concede Game 1 yet...hell maybe its like helter skelter since the Yanks ALWAYS lose Game 1 only to come back and win the seriesI've watched MOST of Schills starts this year and this is the worst he has looked all year long...go figure[Edited on October 12, 2004 at 9:19 PM. Reason : schilling]
10/12/2004 9:18:28 PM
I used to like Joe Buck, but this game just as well be shown on YES. An announcer doesn't need to bring up what the crowd is saying. Fox will always be an ESPN wannabe when it comes to broadcasting any sport other than football, and thats only because CBS is better.
10/12/2004 9:18:51 PM
all i gotta say is "who's ur fuckin daddy boston!?"
10/12/2004 9:18:54 PM
So much for shuttin up the Yanks, eh
10/12/2004 9:19:55 PM
you think cbs has better football telecats than fox???
10/12/2004 9:21:02 PM
^^^ he's tired... long season.... 2001 was 3 years agoHe looked gassed a little early in Game 1 against the Angels. If they're smart they'll take him out now so they can get a good start out of him in G-4 or 5
10/12/2004 9:21:06 PM
i must agree that "heart and soul of a team" does NOT make you worthy to be in the hall of fame. thats just stupid. "look here, kids, this is the greatest yankee player of all time, derek jeter....no, we did not put stats beside his name because he didn't break any records, nor did he even come close--but, he was a damn good leader/speaker/captain--he could really get his teamates in the mood to play baseball." bullshit. i guess it don't help derek jeters race for the HOF to know that the teamates driving him there is the allstar team, aka the new york yankees....
10/12/2004 9:21:51 PM
yea that was a stupid thing to say..esp considering the performance he jsut gave. i bet he feels like an ass now, or will once he sees himself say that that the highlights from the game.
10/12/2004 9:21:54 PM
christ is that fucking Sandy Koufax throwing righty out there...what the hell is up with the movement
10/12/2004 9:22:37 PM
So having the All-time most postseason hits doesn't qualify as some sort of record? His All-star game appearances and postseason awards along with years of top tier regular season statistics dont qualify him for the hall of fame...?
10/12/2004 9:23:03 PM
no, his postseason stats don't mean shit...it just means that he plays on a team that consistently goes to the postseason due the the 'all star effect' of the new york yankees...he's given more opportunities to get hits....
10/12/2004 9:25:08 PM
game. set. match.Mussina is pitching the game of his life alreadythat movement seriously looks Koufaxian[Edited on October 12, 2004 at 9:26 PM. Reason : is that a word]
10/12/2004 9:26:11 PM
I guess now the only thing to do is root against a perfect game or no hitter
10/12/2004 9:26:56 PM
^^ okay so since he's on a great team his batting average doesnt count.Thats cool as long as we throw Babe Ruth, Mantle, etc out of the HOF too
10/12/2004 9:26:58 PM
Curt was hurt way bad
10/12/2004 9:29:19 PM
^^ dunno if it would have mattered that much. mussina is looking unhittable tonight.
10/12/2004 9:30:18 PM
WHO THE FUCK IS BRANDON ARROYOFUCKING MORON
10/12/2004 9:30:20 PM
was it McCarver that said it that Yankee loving bastard...well Pedro...time to earn your money..I got faith in him
10/12/2004 9:30:50 PM
I hope they put in Wakefield. Just cause I love to watch him pitch.
10/12/2004 9:31:35 PM
yep, definitely McCarver
10/12/2004 9:31:48 PM
you were talking about him having the most postseason stats hits...i said that shouldn't count, thats an unfair stat, other players are not given the opportunity such as jeter to go to the postseason as many times.and i would never put jeter in the same category as ruth or mantle, those guys are in the HOF for a reason, because they were on the top of baseballs batting list.....jeter is no where close.
10/12/2004 9:32:35 PM
wow, schilling really did shut 55,000 new york fans up didnt he
10/12/2004 9:32:56 PM
I was watching Game 3 ALCS last year earlier on Classic and McCarver called out Red Sox fan, Pedro, and Manny w/o knowing the fucking situation and harped on it for like 20 mins...he said it was the classless, idiot Sox fans that caused Nelson and Garcia to throw punches in the bullpen and shit...god I hate that guy(and to think he used to be the Mets play-by-play guy)
10/12/2004 9:33:31 PM
obviously some people on here read selectively, i did say jeter is a good player, puts up decent numbers but doesnt deserve all that freakin hype, they act like he is god, and the yankees might not have won near as much without him but they would have done just fine, look at the lineup he is surrounded by, you put him in a crappy lineup and lets see how well he does, look at these "Awesome" statistics for SS's in MLB this year, 6th in hits, 44th in 3b's, 5th in Rbi's (702 behind #1, 11th in walks, 6th in SO's, 12th in OBP, 13th in average. You tell me for a guy who hits in the top 2 spots in his lineup and has OBP, Walks, and an average like that is such a great player, that just makes me laugh. i mean this stats for just for SS's not the rest of the MLB. Look at miguel Tejada, he straight tore Jeter up this year and did that in an inferior lineup. Stats dont lie. Read and weep for yourselfhttp://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/mlb_sortable_player_stats.jsp?statType=1&statType=Overview§ion1=null&baseballScope=mlb&subScope=pos&teamPosCode=6&sitSplit=&venueID=&Submit=Submit&timeFrame=1&timeSubFrame=2004&&sortByStat=G
10/12/2004 9:34:10 PM
And were the Sox really down by 7 earlier this year to the Yanks? That's what McCarver keeps saying but a graphic they put up said the 2 biggest deficits they've come back from were both by 5
10/12/2004 9:34:36 PM
^^^Yeah, I remember that[Edited on October 12, 2004 at 9:34 PM. Reason : ^^]
10/12/2004 9:34:39 PM
Hey Nutgrass, at least somebody else has some common sense, i mean there is nothing wrong with being a decent player, but the hype is just way too much, jeter doesnt live up to it, plain and simple, the numbers show it.
10/12/2004 9:37:40 PM
to those that think Jeter is not a HOFer...simply put...you lose.315 career hitter (never had a season below .292).463 slugging percentage.385 career OBP188 or more hits every year save 2003 (when he got injured on opening day)will reach 2000 hits next year w/ less then 10 years in the league...meaning he is all but assured of eventually reaching 3,000 (which is like the 300 pitching wins, which all but assures you of the HOF)add on to that All Star games, post season accolades, and WINNING games and championshipsMEMO: You don't need to hit 600 HRs to qualify for the HOF[Edited on October 12, 2004 at 9:40 PM. Reason : apfa]
10/12/2004 9:37:56 PM
Dude, Jeter had one of the worst starts in the majors this year.He rebounded to still put up pretty good stats. No one thinks Jeter is one of the top ten players in baseball.Hell Reggie Jackson wasn't a GREAT player but he's famous for getting it done in the postseason.
10/12/2004 9:39:25 PM
Consistency counts too. Jeter will go to the hall, hands down.
10/12/2004 9:40:16 PM
Hey, thanks for proving my point NyM, those OBP, and Slugging percetages suck compared to Hall of Fame material, you prove my point.
10/12/2004 9:40:18 PM
^^^^what are those numbers in comparison to other hitters of his style that are in the HOF...those numbers honestly don't look overly impressive to be up in the HOFhowever, i will agree, if he hangs on and keeps hitting and gets up to 3000 hits, thats pretty damn impressive and probably worthy of HOF, but, its got to happen firstbut, as the stats are now...i wouldn't vote him in the HOF, sorry[Edited on October 12, 2004 at 9:41 PM. Reason : .]
10/12/2004 9:40:40 PM
^^ are you kidding...maybe if your name is Barry Bonds they sucklets not get our minds clouded by the steroid era we are living in right now[Edited on October 12, 2004 at 9:41 PM. Reason : `joasf]
10/12/2004 9:41:00 PM
Oh yeah those numbers suck for a shortstop.Go ahead and show us ALL the shortstops with those career numbers....
10/12/2004 9:41:13 PM
"Jeter had one of the worst starts in history" Whose fault is that???????????
10/12/2004 9:41:22 PM
those numbers combined with his AMAZING postseason numbers and performance IS enough, no doubtI HATE the Yankees and Jeter, but damn give the guy his due
10/12/2004 9:42:52 PM
I guess if better than mediocrity gets you in the hall of fame then i guess he is in, i just would hate to be already in the hall and have that taint my honor
10/12/2004 9:44:11 PM
I NEVER SAID HE WASN'T GOOD, and by the way he has those post season numbers cause he happens to be on the AL All Star team, i guess several of you didnt look at the link for stats this year, IF you did you would see that Tejada is Hall of Fame status, Jeter is no where near his level
10/12/2004 9:45:59 PM
10/12/2004 9:46:39 PM
All-star games are not for mediocre players.Simply put, his regular season numbers stand out against shorstops of his era.Now add in the fact that he has amazing postseason stats.A little overrated yes, hall of famer yes
10/12/2004 9:46:44 PM
10/12/2004 9:47:54 PM
its really no use arguing against people who can't look past the current era and put his performance into historical perspective
10/12/2004 9:48:10 PM
Finally someone has been convinced he is overrated!!!!!!!!!
10/12/2004 9:48:26 PM
You'd be hard pressed to find someone in the Hall who doesn't think that if Jeter keeps up how he's playing that he doesn't deserve to be in the HoF.
10/12/2004 9:48:33 PM
Its no point arguing against people who cant interpret stats, those stats you gave me were good, but not outstanding, actually his OBP, and Slugging were average at best
10/12/2004 9:49:25 PM
