I saw it a few days ago. I had very little prior info about it going in, and was very pleased. Very dark, very film noir. It stuck to its comic book roots well (I haven't read any of the graphic novels, but I have a bunch of Frank Miller's other stuff and it has the same feel).I loved the way it was "shot". It's like someone took the time to do Sky Captain the way it should have been done. Some of the dialogue was cheesy, but overall I was psyched and left the theater wanting to see more. I heard there were many other Sin City stories, so this leaves it wide open for sequels.P.S. Mickey Rourke is great, Bruce Willis is pretty good, and Clive Owen's accent(?) was awful.
3/31/2005 9:10:18 PM
clive owen's british accent?like his real one?
4/1/2005 11:23:49 AM
Just saw it. Very unique movie. I personally thought it was awesome. Very violent, but for some reason, I didn't think it was that bad. I must be really desensitized to violence. Very funny too...if you can handle the gore, go see this.

4/1/2005 4:26:48 PM

4/1/2005 4:37:32 PM
^bad decision

I found that some of it was difficult to listen to (Michael Madsen as Hartigan's partner. . . could not pull off the comic-y dialogue) -- but the men were all superb (Hartigan, Jackie Boy, Marv, all perfect).I expected more from the women, more specifically, I guess, Rosario Dawson. I just didn't feel like she gave that character justice. Elijah Wood was fun to watch as Kevin, even though I had to laugh through some of those scenes -- it's hard not to, the way his jumping was filmed. And Jessica Alba exceeded my expectations; she pulled off a nice Nancy.
4/1/2005 11:10:49 PM
fuck madsen
4/1/2005 11:40:50 PM
i agree that madsen's voice seemed really awkward at the begining of the movie, but when it came back to him at the end it didnt seem so out of place. but overall i fucking loved the movie[Edited on April 2, 2005 at 12:18 AM. Reason : oh yea, when that dude got shot with the arrow, shit was hilarious]
4/2/2005 12:09:37 AM
that movie was so fucking violenthad at least 3 or 4 occasions of painful castration
4/2/2005 12:18:27 AM
Very good, only part that really bothered me involved Frodo.Oh and tww contingency, I don;t know what to say about that.
4/2/2005 12:19:57 AM
I never read the comics so I only had an idea of what to expect. Story-wise, it was a bit corny. The lines, the acting, and the stories were a bit over the top. I'm sure it was always meant that way, but still...I was more interested in the visual aspects of the film. For a film shot entirely in front of a green screen, it looked very good. For the most part, you couldn't really tell, unlike that "Sky Captain" garbage.Still, they should've worked on some of the parts where characters are jumping/being tossed around. Those parts looked AWFUL.
4/2/2005 12:28:56 AM
this movie is the fuckin bomb. go see it.
4/2/2005 1:07:00 AM
I've never even heard of Frank Miller(not a Comics guy) but this movie was quality. The sole part about Marv is worth the movie ticket. I was completely blown by this movie, just amazing.
4/2/2005 1:09:30 AM
I really enjoyed it, but I have to agree about Madsen -- he just sounded wrong.
4/2/2005 1:45:55 AM
So I was at the theatre watching the movie and right after the girl cuts the guys head off with her sword, bam...fire alarm. Entire theatre is evacuated. Good news is I got a free pass, so I'll get to watch the fun beginning parts again.
4/2/2005 1:46:34 AM
i loved iti'm gonna watch it again
4/2/2005 1:59:46 AM
i'm gonna have to see it again too

Pulp Fiction with a Gilmore Girl
4/2/2005 8:32:18 AM
was a pretty unique film!im not sure what all the critics are saying yet,but i thought its visual style was pretty tightelijah wood was mawfawkin Harry Potter in the film - that part was ridiculous, but the rest of it was pretty decent -ZiP!-[Edited on April 2, 2005 at 10:26 AM. 4/2/2005 10:24:20 AM
Awesome movie, plain and simple. For those who think it was over the top its because it is a comic book. Comic books do have corny lines and things like that but you couldn't be any more truthful to the books.
4/2/2005 11:34:16 AM
I took away his weapons... both of them.
4/2/2005 1:07:48 PM
For those who think it was over the top its because it is a comic book. Comic books do have corny lines and things like thatThe comic book wasn't intended to be corny just because of the fact that it was a comic book. If anything Frank Miller was trying to make a comic book that broke the molds of the medium. The dialog is corny because they were trying for a very stylized noir voice.
4/2/2005 2:40:49 PM
still cornyI laughed through many of the serious scenes. For instance, the prostitute showdown. It was just like some stupid women in prison movie from the 70's.
4/2/2005 3:17:43 PM
i thought it was pretty goodi still dont understand the very beginning and very end scenes and what they had to do with the moviei forgot that elijah wood was in the movie yeah the voice in the beginning was out of place but everything else was cool and funny
4/2/2005 3:21:35 PM
4/2/2005 3:24:36 PM
What was it supposed to be?
4/2/2005 3:40:22 PM
that movie was absolutely scrumtrulescent
4/2/2005 3:40:49 PM
well the three main parts all kinda tied togetherlike they were in the same bar but the part in the very beginning where he shot the woman then at the end in the elevator like there wasnt much sense to that
4/2/2005 3:48:01 PM
holy shit this movie was awesome
4/2/2005 4:10:56 PM
The connections between the stories were basically superficial. SIN CITY was an anthology of stories that happen in Sin City. There isn't really a "big picture" that results from telling all three stories as one piece.
4/2/2005 4:12:14 PM
But they were all sorta related just chronologically in reverse.
4/2/2005 4:12:47 PM
It was awesome, it was fucking awesome. The only performance I didn't like was Murphy's but I'll let it slide for the otherwise sustained level of awesome.
