Just what we need, a 6-6 PF
11/24/2011 4:18:28 PM
Sounds like an AJ contingency plan
11/24/2011 4:36:48 PM
ranked #34 according to scout, nothing to scoff at
11/24/2011 4:54:42 PM
^dude is a monsterwatch some highlight vids. Its like howell some how learned how to dunk and block and jump more than 2 in off the groundwould be a huge coup

Boobs is a boob
11/25/2011 1:47:52 AM
while the 6'6" PF can still be a productive player, they will be a total defensive liability. I was just saying with having to play against the taller frontcourts in the ACC, having a 6'6" PF would be an issue.also, fuck cptinsano. Just because i objectively post my opinion which happens to not always agree with half of the idiot, head in the clouds, super optimists on this board, doesnt mean what i say is "dumb shit"you troll most of my posts, so please give yourself some rest and get off my nutsthx[Edited on November 25, 2011 at 1:49 AM. Reason : also, howell is 6'8"]
11/25/2011 1:48:07 AM
you seemupset
11/25/2011 3:27:28 AM
check his videos and then tell me he'd be a "defensive liability" just because he's not two inches taller. he's listed at 235 by rivals, he's easily got a college-ready body, and he's only a senior in hs. i have to think boob doesn't get to touch much boob and he's bitter about it.
11/25/2011 12:01:47 PM
to be fair the other link has him at 220[Edited on November 25, 2011 at 12:37 PM. Reason : He's gonna need to develop 15-17ft jump shot like booker did][Edited on November 25, 2011 at 12:39 PM. Reason : r]
11/25/2011 12:33:56 PM
dude has a point about being a defensive liability.as good as tracy smith was offensively, he was awful at defending.
11/25/2011 1:35:03 PM
(this guy isn't tracy. so he won't necessarily be the same type of a defender as tracy. just from his hs videos, he looks more athletic than tracy (and def howell). and remember, he's only in high school)
11/25/2011 1:43:47 PM
yeah i'm not watching the videos, but no matter how athletic a 6'6 guy is, a 6'9+ guy can still go straight over them with not too much difficulty.
11/25/2011 2:03:14 PM
your argument is quite convincing... you're right, who needs a top50 player, #8/13 PF? we're too good for such scrubs.
11/25/2011 2:08:35 PM
Smart folks realize that the size information listed on the internet isn't always accurate or updated constantly. How about not being constantly negative for no reason?
11/25/2011 3:42:24 PM
^^ so in the football thread you say the rankings dont mean that much in defense of TOB, but for basketball they do??????
11/25/2011 5:47:35 PM
much larger talent pool for football than basketball, so there will be some guys out there who are overlooked. doesn't happen nearly as often in basketball.
11/25/2011 5:48:41 PM
ya, basketball rankings are a lot more reliable than football rankings, while obviously there's gonna be misses in both, basketballs generally more consistent
11/25/2011 6:26:34 PM
Yes, only five players on the court, and the better hs players go head-to-head in the aau league and camps and tournaments. HS basketball rankings are much more reliable than football. Recruit rankings in both sports are often off, but it's much more common for a 2/3 star football prospect to fly under the radar and turn into an impact player than a bball recruit. And I realize that 6'6" or 6'7" isn't the ideal height for a PF, but my "assesment" of Gathers is based on several of his hiGhLigHt videos AND his rankings. Not only is a beast, he's pretty athletic and can jump. Here's a hiGHlighT video from a recent Purvis game (2013 prospect Julius Randle looks nasty):http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_eRL3F-CgFc
11/27/2011 8:18:25 PM
It seems a bit premature for Rivals to add Jarnor Jones to our bball recruiting class.
11/27/2011 8:47:43 PM
Really? Haha.
11/27/2011 8:55:09 PM
After watching that vid I'm going to assume that kid is headed to UNC or Kentucky. Never heard of him until now. Also, Purvis...I can't believe this kid is coming to play for us.
11/27/2011 10:11:57 PM
A Ricardo Gathers' HIghlIGHt video needs to be posted:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSXzpEZBKysEdit: he's got a tough face to take so many dunks to the chin[Edited on November 27, 2011 at 10:51 PM. Reason : that video is actually from over a year ago. junior hIghlightS]
11/27/2011 10:44:19 PM
Recruiting rankings (by the HS Junior/Senior level) are usually a pretty decent representation of kids on the AAU circuit. The top players that get missed are those that aren't heavy participants in the AAU system, usually international players. There isn't a comparable system for football, so occasionally a great talent can get missed if they aren't well connected or at a bigger HS program.A Charles Barkley type PF could be good in our offense, and may not be that bad off defensively if he plays hard and smart, and rebounds well, especially if we have a shot blocker on the court. There are plenty of successful 6'6 PFs in college, and Barkley, Rodman, even Dajuan Blair are notable examples in the pros. There are plenty of guys that fall short though.[Edited on November 27, 2011 at 10:54 PM. Reason : .]

Andrew White deciding between us and Kansas tomorrow at 5pm according to The Wolfpacker
12/1/2011 8:40:17 PM
Kansas.
12/1/2011 9:42:57 PM
had no idea we were still in the mix with whitebut i'd be happier with jefferson since we already have a SG
12/1/2011 10:07:35 PM
I'll take a 6'6" sg that can hit the three any day, but I dont think we'll get him
12/1/2011 10:32:56 PM
We're gonna need more shooters eventually. Scott Woods only come around once a generation.
12/1/2011 10:35:41 PM
^agreedJefferson wants to play SF in college anyways.
12/1/2011 10:41:47 PM
how might we have room for him and Jefferson?
12/1/2011 11:12:00 PM
White is definitely a need for us. Don't think we get him, but its obvious we need more outside shooting on this team. TJ Warren can hit from outside thankfully...I don't think Purvis is known for his outside shooting and while Tyler has gotten better at the outside shot, hes not known for it.White AND Jefferson would be amazing, but we are alot closer to getting neither than both.
12/1/2011 11:14:11 PM

i know this is highly unlikely, but any chance of vandenburg redshirting next year? he isn't getting any playing time right now, and none of our bigger are seniors, so he probably won't get much next year either.[Edited on December 2, 2011 at 8:30 AM. Reason : nm, that wouldn't matter, would it?]
