he said dominate
11/4/2011 10:57:50 AM
Not even really a dominant center, just a good roleplaying body down low that can defend and rebound. Vandenberg isn't that person.Having a Ewing or an Olajuwon or Shaq is pretty rare if you think about it. Much rarer than having good guards.
11/4/2011 11:02:00 AM
Yeah...dominant centers aren't necessary. It would be nice if they could get a self-created bucket or two...but all that is needed is someone that can defend well, rebound well, and finish putbacks. This is a guard's game.

Next Wednesday is the first day of the fall signing period. A big sigh of relief will be let out when we can get these kids' signatures on the LOIs.

We need some more Amile Jefferson video in this thread.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SrGVyMafy8

CBK is undoubtedly a guards game. Go down the list of every NCAA champion in the last 15-20 years and everyone of them is loaded in the backcourt.Yes there are some Noah, May, Baxter, Hansbrough, Okafor type players as well but there are tons of teams who have won without great big men . Even more who have gone deep without them.Any good big man prospect will almost always leave for the NBA before they are developed enough to really dominate at the college level. Think Ced Simmons type players. That isn't necessarily true for guards like Kemba, Dixon, Felton, Lawson, etc. Many don't leave until after their junior year and most are already dominating the college game. The NBA isnt as willing to draft a guard on potential as they are a big man.

good points, but check out the video of Amile he's a baller.

As a college coach, you would almost want the guys who are big - ~6-10/11 who are not quite good enough to be lottery pick worthy, but who will stay at least 3 years. If TBDV was 10-15% better from a coordination standpoint, he would be ideal
11/4/2011 4:17:15 PM
so how is pigpen still around? time to suspend that alias

jefferson was sitting between debbie yow and purvis during most of the scrimmage. the crowd got an "amile jefferson" chant going for a little while.perfect day for his visit. great weather, great win against unc, and a good crowd at the scrimmage[Edited on November 5, 2011 at 6:22 PM. Reason : ]

@hoopsconnection: Amile Jefferson getting close to decision time. Down to Ky, Ohio St, UConn; at NC State this past wknd & Stanford this wknd. Big decision
11/7/2011 11:20:52 AM
Purvis said on twitter he's signing his LOI on Wednesday
11/7/2011 11:23:26 AM
so is NC State out despite his visit?
11/7/2011 11:28:46 AM
I don't think that's what he meant. If NC State was out, Stanford would be too (looking at the way the tweet was phrased) and it makes no sense that he would visit Stanford if it was out.I think he meant to say that all five schools are still in, he was just noting State and Stanford's visits especially. But I could be wrong.
11/7/2011 11:33:04 AM
I took it that meant he's down to those five schools, two of which he's currently visiting.

11/9/2011 9:39:16 AM
alright, it's official (well, at least with Warren and Purvis, but I've never worried about Lewis, not after he stayed faithful during the coaching change)
11/9/2011 9:42:48 AM
Feeling much better now that those two have signed, wasn't worried about Lewis. Let's get dat 190% Amile Jefferson signature now too

11/9/2011 2:55:21 PM
^Best first recruit: (new coach signee)Borzello: I know I wrote that Rodney Purvis was overrated earlier, but he was still a monster commitment for Mark Gottfried. He’s an in-state kid who had previously committed to Louisville and had interest or offers from Duke, Connecticut, Memphis, Missouri, Ohio State and others. He’s a big-time scorer who can be a go-to-guy.Not all bad from the guy.Edit:Also from article:Best backcourt:Goodman: There's honestly no one that truly stands out, so I'm going to go with N.C. State - even though I think all three of their guys maybe a tad overrated. The bottom line is that Mark Gottfried and his staff have added a trio of Top 100 players: Rodney Purvis, T.J. Warren and Tyler Lewis. Honestly, I think I like Lewis more than the other two. He doesn't look the part, but he knows how to play and brings a toughness to the table. Purvis can really score it and Warren can really shoot it. [Edited on November 9, 2011 at 2:58 PM. Reason : .]
