I watched about 20 minutes or so and only have this commentary: He flubbed a lot, but not too bad. And Pelosi looked/acted crazy. I'm almost positive she was drunk or on a lot of pills, probably both. I'm serious. At one point she stood up and started smiling and rubbing her hands together like Mr. Burns while Biden was talking about "burn pits" in the Middle East, it was weird.

(and I found it: https://nypost.com/2022/03/02/nancy-pelosi-sparks-new-sotu-meme-during-biden-burn-pits-moment/

more of her bizzarre behavior: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10569077/What-hell-doing-Nancy-Pelosis-bizarre-behavior-distracts-State-Union-viewers.html

I tuned in late, and so that was one of the first things I saw. WTF?! I wondered if she had been doing that all night. But then later I saw her clap like an actual human, so it remains a mystery.

She kept pursing her lips and grinding her teeth and being all crazy-eyed. She also kept leaning over and saying things to Kamala, it looked like Kamala eventually just started ignoring her (again, this is just based on the 20 or so minutes that I watched.) I can't really speak to what Biden was saying, he jumbled his words quite a bit, but I really was distracted watching crazy-face Pelosi.

I watched the whole thing, he definitely had quite a few speaking stumbles/flubs, but nothing too terrible. Overall I though it was fine.

The Pelosi burn pit thing was quite strange, but I assumed it was some legislation or something she had been working on or pushing for that she was excited about finally coming out?

Well before the election I was told that was just messaging to get elected, I guess this is messaging for the midterms? Or is it his true position and goal. Who can tell.

I think "Defund the Police" is just a catchy phrase that doesn't mean much and is largely impractical. How about "Reform the Police"?

This might as well be posted here, since it seems to be getting a lot of attention from Joe Biden's critics.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/16/us/politics/hunter-biden-tax-bill-investigation.html

Quote :
"As recently as last month, the federal grand jury heard testimony in Wilmington, Del., from two witnesses, one of whom was a former employee of Hunter Biden whose lawyer was later subpoenaed for financial records that reflected money Mr. Biden received from a Ukrainian energy company.

The investigation, which began as a tax inquiry under the Obama administration, widened in 2018 to include possible criminal violations of tax laws, as well as foreign lobbying and money laundering rules, according to the people familiar with the inquiry."

Quote :
"Investigators have examined Mr. Biden’s relationships with interests in Kazakhstan, a Chinese energy conglomerate and Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company, according to people familiar with the investigation.

They said prosecutors had investigated payments and gifts Mr. Biden or his associates had received from foreign interests, including a vehicle paid for using funds from a company associated with a Kazakh oligarch and a diamond from a Chinese energy tycoon. Prosecutors also sought documents related to corporate entities through which Mr. Biden and his associates conducted business with interests around the world."

Quote :
"Over the last two years, federal prosecutors in Delaware have issued scores of subpoenas for documents related to Hunter Biden’s foreign work and for bank accounts linked to him and his associates, including two formerly close business partners, Eric Schwerin and Devon Archer, according to people familiar with the investigation...

People familiar with the investigation said prosecutors had examined emails between Mr. Biden, Mr. Archer and others about Burisma and other foreign business activity. Those emails were obtained by The New York Times from a cache of files that appears to have come from a laptop abandoned by Mr. Biden in a Delaware repair shop. The email and others in the cache were authenticated by people familiar with them and with the investigation...

In one email to Mr. Archer in April 2014, Mr. Biden outlined his vision for working with Burisma. In the email, Hunter Biden indicated that the forthcoming announcement of a trip to Ukraine by Vice President Biden — who is referred to in the email as 'my guy,' but not by name — should 'be characterized as part of our advice and thinking — but what he will say and do is out of our hands.'

The announcement 'could be a really good thing or it could end up creating too great an expectation. We need to temper expectations regarding that visit,' Hunter Biden wrote.

Vice President Biden traveled to Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, about a week after the email.

In the same April 2014 email, Hunter Biden indicated that Burisma’s officials 'need to know in no uncertain terms that we will not and cannot intervene directly with domestic policymakers, and that we need to abide by FARA and any other U.S. laws in the strictest sense across the board.'

He suggested enlisting the law firm where he worked at the time, Boies Schiller Flexner, to help Burisma through 'direct discussions at state, energy and NSC,' referring to two cabinet departments and the National Security Council at the White House.

The firm 'can devise a media plan and arrange for legal protections and mitigate U.S. domestic negative press regarding the current leadership if need be,' Mr. Biden wrote in the email.

Mr. Biden, Mr. Archer, Boies Schiller Flexner and Blue Star Strategies did not register under FARA on behalf of Burisma.

In another set of emails examined by prosecutors, Hunter Biden and Mr. Archer discussed inviting foreign business associates, including a Burisma executive, to a dinner in April 2015 at a Washington restaurant where Vice President Biden would stop by. It is not clear whether the Burisma executive attended the dinner, although the vice president did make an appearance, according to people familiar with the event."

I'm curious as to who the people who are familiar with the email and others in the cache and the investigation might be; additional context regarding that detail would have been nice to have.

I don't see any tax or money laundering crimes implicated in the emails that are described - just FARA violations, potentially.

I feel like Joe Biden being implicated in any of this is just a fever dream of Trump supporters. However, if Hunter Biden faces any tax, money laundering or FARA charges, that could still weigh down Joe Biden's approval rating and his chances for reelection.

I have a feeling, though, that a lot of the loudest critics of Hunter Biden's behavior would have yawned at Donald Trump, Jr. engaging in the same behavior.

100% this for me.
Correct me if I’m wrong here, but basically 100% of the Hunter Biden laptop story, and I’m specifically talking about the obviously fake story of Hunter leaving his laptop at the repair shop, has flowed from Rudy Giuliani. The guy whose hair melted on National TV, who was caught in a Borat film trying to fuck a fake reporter, whose faculties and intentions are highly questionable, who has his own FARA issues. I’m not buying it.

The next layer is that this wouldn’t be the first time the NYT just absolutely struck out. We’re talking WMDs in Iraq and “FBI sees no connection between Trump,Russia” level strike out here. If the media runs with this it will absolutely sink Dems all up and down the ballot.

I will admit it is still possible these are legit Hunter Biden emails. Hacked, put on a laptop, then gifted to Giuliani. If Hunter Biden broke the law he should be prosecuted, as should Don Jr. But after living through the last 10 years (Benghazi, Hillary’s emails, uranium one, CRT, long form birth certificates, etc etc) this smells like complete bullshit.

It's 32 billion over 10 years, the details of the program haven't been released. He's also giving more funding to DoJ to investigate and prosecute civil rights cases, have ATF more active in gun control cases, and increase community violence interventions programs.

Why be angry until you actually know where the money is going and what programs the 32B will fund?

I wonder if that at all related to the increase in stories about crime waves that have been permeating the media.

Regardless I try to form my political positions on what I think is right not what's popular. Almost 50% of Americans think/thought Donald Trump is a good choice for the president

Sigh, don't be obtuse. You literally went from "Biden is doing something that goes against what is popular!!" to "well it doesn't matter if something is popular"

You don't support an increase in funding of police, cool, go with that.

Personally I'll wait to see where the funds are going before making a judgment.

I'll admit to poorly communicating my point but not to meaning what you said. I meant the opposite of what the people protesting wanted.

I won't go so far as to say democratic leaders made promises but they spoke to understanding what the protestors wanted, then made no attempt to sell the idea and immediately tried to blame it for underperformance.
