Waren wants to decriminalize the border. You think the majority of Americans will go for this?
7/31/2019 3:34:43 PM
It does not have a majority support but it's also only recently been talked about as a policy by political leaders. Most changes aren't supported when first discussed, that's what political leadership is avout.
7/31/2019 4:08:48 PM
^^I know the alternative edge of that argument just got trounced in a national electionAnd crossing the border is just a misdemeanor anyway. Vast majority of deportations are already civil cases.
7/31/2019 4:13:04 PM
It's just a misdemeanor sure, but when Trump tours middle America, that little fact will be lost on everyone when he paints this picture of a free-flowing immigrant free-for-all, and he will. If the Dems know what is best for them, they'll drop it.I don't understand why they would want to stand on such a polarizing issue anyway. Do they think a policy like that is going to energize their base? And I'm still waiting to find out how much higher of a percentage in taxes I'm going to have to pay for medicare-for-all. And for reparations. And for college-ed-for-all. Look, I still pay 200/month in college debt, so if one of them wants to get rid of that for me, that's fine, that might even out some of the higher taxes I'd pay, but all I hear in these debates (and I realize there have only been two sets so far) is sweet nothings - soundbites that play really well on news summaries but nothing of substance. Buttigieg talking about how next year soldiers will die that weren't even born when 9/11 happened? That's tugging at my heart strings for sure, but it doesn't tell me anything about his platform on foreign policy. I complained about this during last election's Republican debates. Please, if you have a plan to give everybody healthcare, give me nuts and bolts. How much is it going to cost, how will it work out when my child breaks an arm and I'm in the emergency room, etc.

rjrumfel literally no Democrats give a shit what you think, your party gave us trump, please take this seriously and go ahead and fuck on off when it comes to anything Democrats should or shouldn't do. I mean it very seriously, fuck off and eat shit, your party is trash and Democrats dont want your opinions.
7/31/2019 7:08:46 PM
^ This is the problem facing American politics. Dems view republicans as the enemy and vice versa. We are not fighting a war here. I think that it is fine to talk about issues without claiming a side and viewing the other person as Ze Germans.
7/31/2019 7:15:42 PM
Republicans are the fucking enemy
7/31/2019 7:17:16 PM
wrong. People should always try to do what's best for the country, and not what's the best way to defeat the republicans.
7/31/2019 7:20:59 PM
No, fuck you too
7/31/2019 7:34:26 PM
"private wealth" like that money isn't always made off the backs of middle class and the working poor
7/31/2019 7:38:34 PM
Obama deported a shitload of people and republicans attacked him for being weak on immigration, seriously fuck any Republicans coming here trying to act like Democrats shouldn't have sensible immigration policy because otherwise Republicans will attack them, while fucking children are dying in ice custody. I have no fucking time for those fools

Booker going hard against Biden

Tulsi had good and valid attack on Harris.
7/31/2019 9:32:31 PM
Biden isn't as terrible of a candidate as Hillary, but he's in the running.
7/31/2019 9:36:10 PM
Also lol again tonight at whomever thought it was a good idea to let cable news run this, its definitely not in the interest of the party
7/31/2019 9:38:06 PM
I think Castro will move up
7/31/2019 9:39:04 PM
agreed

Deblasio is easily the worst candidate I think

Biden 3030 vs 8 more years of Trump?Tough call, America.
7/31/2019 10:51:07 PM
Biden up there molesting Al Sharpton's shoulders
7/31/2019 10:51:28 PM
Nobody else saw that? Biden literally said eight more years of Trump and to visit his website at http://www.joebiden3030.com
7/31/2019 10:59:47 PM
I thought he fucked up trying to say to text Joe to 30330 or something like that[Edited on July 31, 2019 at 11:01 PM. Reason : and yeah, the 8 more years instead of 8 years]
7/31/2019 11:01:13 PM
It’ll go viral and he’s probably done for
7/31/2019 11:05:43 PM
I think booker marginally won this debate. He framed everything in a broader hopeful vision which is where a president’s influence often lies.[Edited on July 31, 2019 at 11:26 PM. Reason : 1]
7/31/2019 11:11:49 PM
^^lol at him being done forand as i suspected, he fucked up trying to pitch his text number, he didn't miss the election year by 1000 years
7/31/2019 11:16:23 PM
Finally Harris gets called out on being a shit prosecutor while using all these prosecutor metaphors to say what kind of president she would be.She was in a position of power where she could have made real change and did NOTHING with it. I don't think she'd use her power as president to do bad things, I think she would do no things.
8/1/2019 12:02:17 AM
Obama certainly has his major faults and it’s absolutely fair game to criticism him via attacking Biden. But I’m not sure I see the strategic value in doing that and trying to win a primary where he and his wife are by far the most popular people. It may win among the extremely online but the VAST majority of actual voters love him. FFS, I saw a poll recently where Obama had a 97% approval rating (or was it 87% — regardless, it was high) among likely voters.[Edited on August 1, 2019 at 6:41 AM. Reason : Mayor Pete started it and I’m glad it continued tonight. Fuck all Republican concern trolling.]
8/1/2019 6:40:05 AM
Joe Biden called 54 yr old US Senator Kamala Harris "kid" to her faceHis old man folksy bullshit is so tired.
8/1/2019 7:00:10 AM
Castro and Yang each only need one more poll over 2% today qualify for 3rd debates. Klobuchar needs only another 10k unique donors.None of the other low people have met one criteria yet.A month to go of course, but could be Biden, Warren, Pete, harris, Sanders, booker, O Rourke and those 3. I think they are still being split up, I wonder how random the draw will be.
8/1/2019 8:49:43 AM
Booker was strong. I still put Biden at the top. I vacillate on Kamala, but would love a Kamala/Biden or Biden/Kamala ticket. I am absolutely intrigued by Yang. Colorado man had a somewhat strong showing but he sounds like a cartoon character. This idea of decriminalizing illegal entry into the country is the dumbest thing I've seen Dems come up with yet. They are going to get HAMMERED with that as soon as the field narrows, presuming the nominee ends up being one of the ones advocating for it.
8/1/2019 9:08:46 AM
I thought that Cory Booker explained why illegal border crossings could be treated as civil matters and not criminal matters fairly well.
8/1/2019 9:26:13 AM
^^^Yang has already qualified
8/1/2019 9:37:38 AM
No he hasn't[Edited on August 1, 2019 at 9:40 AM. Reason : DNC is holding him down ]
8/1/2019 9:40:05 AM
Yang claimed he had but the DNC didn't count it because he used 2 polls from the same source
8/1/2019 9:42:04 AM
Let me get this straight ^. You want to tell a Republican in a swing state, who is a never Trumper, to go fuck off because I'm worried you're candidates are gonna give us four more years of Trump? Ok. Play that game. There are a lot of Republicans out there who are fed up. Sure, our party brought Trump in. I tried my best to prevent that in the primaries. But your attitude is just going to alienate more voters. Have fun picking your jaw off the floor in November when all of your poles go tits up again.
8/1/2019 10:32:31 AM
Trump's not the problem, it's republican policies. Electing a Democrat that will still lock up children, "but with more diverse guards" or some shit, is better than Trump I guess, but I would much rather fight for real change. Never Trump republicans expect the democratic party to chase them when they're a very small percentage of the population and unlikely to vote democrat anyway.
8/1/2019 10:58:20 AM
You're smart enough to realize that there is a middle ground between "more diverse guards" and complete border decriminalization. But back to my main problem - what does she mean by decriminalization? No details. Just soundbites that grab headlines. But I'm really surprised at the acrimonious responses here. Especially since they're directed at someone who won't even be voting for Trump.
8/1/2019 11:11:57 AM
all of the candidates have given more than a soundbite, in general the decriminalization part means removing section 1325 and instead make it a civil issue like unlawful presence already isi'm not your personal google though so i'll let you educate yourself[Edited on August 1, 2019 at 11:31 AM. Reason : and yes, again, no one cares about your opinions on democratic policies ]
8/1/2019 11:30:11 AM
Illegal Immigration has been dropping for decades, the current crisis is part of a transient surge, it’s not the continuous state of border crossings.Using this surge to demonize all immigrants and immigration and clamp down on dreamers or undocumented people particularly those who’ve been here for decades or serving in the military; using this as a smokescreen to halt resettling of actual refugees and terminate defacto legal residency of people with temporary protected status is just wrong and cruel and immoral. The people who cross on our land borders are not driven by our domestic policy they’re driven by the conditions in their home country and were idiots if we don’t seek to have our neighbors be stable and thriving through diplomacy and aide. Trump has notably cut aide to these countries and his diplomacy is abysmal.Immigration is far bigger than wether border crossings should be decriminalized, this almost a red herring on the issue.
8/1/2019 11:45:04 AM
I'm not sure why I didn't notice this as much during the MSNBC debate, but the CNN debate format didn't allow the candidates to finish the points that they were attempting to make.I understand that they don't want the candidates filibustering during the debate, but I found it annoying when the moderators would cut off a candidate when the candidate hadn't even finished the sentence that would have completed his or her point.
8/1/2019 11:46:00 AM
they also kept asking gotcha questions based on republican talking points, and kept asking questions designed to get one candidate to attack another (and people claim progressives are why there is no party unity)
8/1/2019 11:56:01 AM
^^^^ they literally talked about 1325 at length over the last two nights.I know it’s hard for Republicans to understand things that aren’t white identity politics or culture war but the candidates literally explained this at length. Including civil versus criminal.** Jake Tapper is a Chuck Todd level bothsides horsheshitter. He still signal boosts fucking Salena Zito regularly even after she was proven to be a hack.[Edited on August 1, 2019 at 11:57 AM. Reason : X]

it’s 2019 and there are still people who think that democrats should court republicans who think Trump is icky this administration has been a republicans wet dream policy-wise, and if any republican were to wake up from a 4 year coma and see the list of things this administration has done without knowing or seeing who the president was, they would be absolutely ecstatic there is no reason whatsoever to give a damn about what these people think democrats need to do to get their vote
