I honestly don’t know if you are happy people get accosted in restaurants with their family or not
7/9/2022 7:17:31 AM
I don't think anyone was accosted in this case but fuck yes people that actively work to ruin people's lives should never have a moment of peace. And literally, as I said, Brett Kavanaugh just denied a right too privacy. He doesn't believe he has that right.

Our political system is so broken
4/6/2023 10:11:21 AM
It's definitely broken, but I wonder if it's significantly more broken than in the past, or if we're more systemically aware of it (those who pay attention, anyway)? There's no shortage of corruption and graft in our political history. I don't use that to in any way justify current behavior, but just to check my sanity and cynicism.
4/6/2023 11:58:58 AM
I think we're doing better than ever.We like to talk about rights and everything but a 150 years ago, especially in the less connected areas, lawlessness was rampant. A lot of people (women, blackppl) obviously didn't have rights. The supreme court (now overturned), at one point justified slavery. The more progressive you get, you will obviously encounter roadblocks on the way as every system at its root is beholden to the general idea of what is permissible. We now, at least in some circles, mock the idea that the federal government can tell you who you can marry. 15 years ago most Democrats weren't opposed. The beauty is that along this whole way, the system we call broken, has progressed along and slowly but surely worked. Everyone at their own time has called the system broken because we aren't getting instant results and cause we have an opposition that is dumb and can have some control. But I would argue that the system being broken is what allows it to progress. If it wasn't so "inefficient" and "slow", at one point one side would've taken too much control and spun it out of balance to the point where the system completely breaks and we are set back. This could be the result of either a conservative authoritarian movement or a progressive revolution. If you don't have the "ying yang" of sorts, you don't end up anywhere but behind.[Edited on April 6, 2023 at 12:11 PM. and that doesn't mean we should be moderatesmy point is that it is a processand the chaos is goodwe progress through chaosa lack of chaos is the true chaosliken this to a utopiaany utopia would be founded in and out of dystopia

15 years ago the support for gay marriage was probably 1% of what it is now in media and im pretry sure I recall obama or biden echoing that in some quote somewhereeven most conservatives don't openly say that the government should prohibit itnow the rhetoric is mostly that "don't impose your stuff on us" which is used to justify bad things where they are the antagonists, but nonetheless there is very obvious progress"for people with money"yeah lmao, of course people with money are gonna do better in any systemthat is common senseI don't see how that in any way negates how far we have comepeople are just richer now cause of technology and its insane effectsI'm not saying that we should be happy with the present at all and not talk about issues[Edited on April 6, 2023 at 12:51 PM. You're talking about the natural progress of society not the performance of our american government system. That said Florida just passed a don't say gay bill and many places are removing books that feature same sex couples and are actively taking Healthcare decisions into government hands for trans people. Were going backwards in terms of rights
4/6/2023 1:00:58 PM
Do you not expect pushback and reverbations with such a change in society?I think that these fundamental differences between states is good in the long run for those very rights because it is harder to change things federally and if it doesn't go your way - rip.The problem is that mobility is becoming more and more difficult.[Edited on April 6, 2023 at 1:40 PM. Apparently the Thomas donor has lots of nazi memorabilia and lots of conservative folks are trying to carry his water that he's just a history buff or some nonsense.

Not sure if it goes here or liberal media thread, but Alito wrote a preemptive oped (paywalled) in the Washington post.
