I'd think the SEC would want them
9/20/2011 11:51:07 AM
They absofuckinglutely MUST segment the new divisions by geography. Any half hearted football fan knows whos in the SEC East. No one outside of the Bible Belt knows or cares whos in the ACC Atlantic.
9/20/2011 11:57:46 AM
yeah, im really surprised the SEC didn't take them (if the report is true). Maybe the SEC has bigger programs in mind.
9/20/2011 11:57:54 AM
^Why would they want them? What would that do for their conference?
9/20/2011 12:02:26 PM
Did pinkandblack get suspendedWhat's up with HOOPS v2

West Virginia is not a "get". Downs level scholastically, a national perception as a backwoods institute, and a market smaller than Fuquay Varina. Yes, they're solid in both major sports. But its not like they have a track record of sustained dominance in either. Not choking as four touchdown favorites over Pitt a few years ago and going to the NC game would have been a feather in their cap, but they just don't bring much to the table outside of that. But this isn't about football, and it certainly isn't about basketball. Its about dollars, and WVU's inclusion wouldn't bring enough of them to justify the move.
9/20/2011 12:04:40 PM
WVU fans could go couch shopping in High Point during road trips to Wake Forest.]
9/20/2011 12:07:18 PM
oh man i didn't even consider that this would be an opportunity to get rid of the stupid conference names. that'd be great.[Edited on September 20, 2011 at 12:14 PM. Reason : hopefully they've learned their lesson from the big10 and don't get fancy again.]
9/20/2011 12:13:56 PM
all I know is that opera guy is going to have to record a new song now to include all these new teams
9/20/2011 12:20:50 PM
rutgers... wearing the colors proudly!
9/20/2011 12:56:05 PM
Looks like the ACC has pretty much conceded that we'll never be a top football conference, so bolstering our basketball programs is the best way to go, imo. Sure, there's more money in football, and we'll get some of that. But with these additions, and hopefully a couple more key additions, we'll be untouchable in basketball. That'll be our niche... which is good, because really, basketball is, has, and always will be the ACC's premiere sport.

9/20/2011 1:19:42 PM
"premier" dawg

HOOPS 2.0 says: UConn is a guarantee to be WEARING THE COLORS PROUDLY

Am I crazy for thinking the SEC might like Kansas? They won't upset the cart in football (seriously, the SEC is strong enough that they don't need to get another football power) and they'll add serious basketball cred.Although Mizzou would be a more logical geographic choice.Yeah, on second thought I probably am just crazy.
9/20/2011 1:27:29 PM
^^The ACC has a much stronger footing in football than the Big East did...half the Big East's basketball teams didn't even play football.[Edited on September 20, 2011 at 1:27 PM. Reason : ]
9/20/2011 1:27:41 PM
Get Mizzou, and Kansas makes plenty of sense. They have a strong rivalry. That would mean K-State would have to come, and there's your 16 team SEC. Kansas, K State, Mizzou, A&M.
9/20/2011 1:30:16 PM
moving closer and closer to the four mega conferences. except not the ones on page 1. ha

i'm a bit surprised that we turned wvu down, honestly. or at least that we turned them down so quickly. especially if we did it for rutgers.
9/20/2011 1:48:42 PM
Speaking of ECU, do they now obtain their dream of joining a BCS league and join the Big East? They are a better football program than Syracuse, so maybe it's not a complete loss for the Big East.[Edited on September 20, 2011 at 1:50 PM. Reason : +1 for Boeheim's Wife]
9/20/2011 1:49:11 PM
No TV market, crap academics and not a super athletic dept as a whole.I get the sense Rutgers may eventually end up big ten with ND.
9/20/2011 1:52:07 PM
Big East wont be BCS when ECU gets there
9/20/2011 1:52:15 PM
and that will be very funny to me
9/20/2011 1:52:49 PM
Boeheim is going to have to get over it, because it's still likely to be in Greensboro every other year.

when I was a kid, I wondered what a Rutger was
9/20/2011 1:55:16 PM
Damn you, you made me go look it up.I came up with a dutch actor, a revolutionary war colonel (who the university is named after, apparently it's HIS), a bunch of other miscellaneous Danes, and a character from the Fire Emblem video games.
9/20/2011 2:05:40 PM
9/20/2011 2:11:32 PM
Rutger Hauer is awesome, fyi.

i remember thinking Rutgers was the mascot and that it was a bulldog of some sortand just accepted that
9/20/2011 2:26:31 PM
i had no clue where Duke was until I was about 10 or 11... just assumed Kentucky because they were blue and good at bball
9/20/2011 2:32:39 PM
early on all I paid attention to was the ACC and I thought that a school having "state" in its name meant it had to be in the capital city of the state, since ncsu was raleigh and fsu was tallahasseeand ohio state was always on TV and they were in columbus[Edited on September 20, 2011 at 2:36 PM. 9/20/2011 2:37:08 PM
random, but yeah
9/20/2011 2:38:02 PM
how do people not understand why we'd look at rutgers over wvu?what does wvu add money-wise?not to mention, rutgers is a pretty good public research university. they fit well into the academic culture, even if you think it's a bullshit reason to build a conference on.
9/20/2011 2:43:23 PM
boeheim is just an angry old whinerhe bitches about money, but he gets paid $1.2 million a year to stand near basketball playerspretty sure his hot wife didn't marry his henry waxman-looking ass because she was attracted to his "love of the game"he is correct about greensboro though[Edited on September 20, 2011 at 2:53 PM. 9/20/2011 2:54:31 PM
^^^Rutgers does makes sense academically and as far as bringing a new TV market...but they suck at basketball and are average or below average in football. That's why people (including myself) don't want Rutgers.[Edited on September 20, 2011 at 2:55 PM. Reason : ]
9/20/2011 2:55:07 PM
College SportsAre BusinessStop it with this "SUPERMAN SHOULD TEAM UP WITH SPIDERMAN!" level absurdity. We're getting Rutgers.
9/20/2011 3:00:43 PM
and it will suck
9/20/2011 3:02:12 PM
If it's all about business, what's this Academics nonsense you keep talking?Sure, Rutgers has a sweet potential market, but are their attendance figures, ratings, and willingness to travel better than West Virginia?
9/20/2011 3:05:41 PM
Without one or both of UConn/Ruthers then the NYC market is still split. You can say it's not a college sports town all you want but the advertising revenue on NYC stations is huge..
9/20/2011 3:22:40 PM
9/20/2011 3:27:42 PM
according to PigPen we are adding Maine and Rhode Island
9/20/2011 3:29:02 PM
Just because a school is bad now doesn't mean they'll be bad forever. Rutgers has shown the potential to have respectable teams, they've invested in their program and facilities, and downplaying the TV market and academics is dumb because they do have to factor in, even if it is to a lesser degree then some other considerations.
