As far as entertainment goes, this episode was finally decent.

Quote :
"lol at the thought of carl taking a shot at sophia"

This actually would have been a great way to end the season. Better than Rick doing it. It shows the progression his character is taking from boy to man quickly. Which is what they want you to see. Carl slowly evolving into having an attitude similar to Shane's.

Still praying that the blanket that Darryl found in that abandoned house is Michonne's.

"Why the fuck was Lennie James featured in the first episode of The Walking Dead? (first ep season one that is). He's a fairly well known actor so I've continually assumed he will show up again."

There is no other explanation other than they are setting him up to be a very important character later in the story. Although at the rate they are moving the storyline along, it could be 3 or 4 more seasons before we see him as part of the storyline again.

There's actually a bunch of other explanations. Actors do 1 episode guest spots on shows all the time. The Good Wife for instance has probably 3 or 4 actors that are way more recognizable than Lennie James in guest spots every week.

the opening of this season had rick still trying to talk to him on the radio

his character shows back up in the comics, and though the show has veered widely from the path the comics took, i'd be surprised if he doesn't show back up eventually

I'm not saying he definitely won't show back up, just that the reasoning behind "he's recognizable so he'll definitely show up again" is pretty flawed.

god damn, why cant every episode be as good as the last one? god damn... The whole ranting about guns from shane at the end was pretty damn good acting to show his frustration, plus I like his badass, shot the zombie in front of everyone like it was nothing pure awesomeness.

I knew we'd eventually get to something good minus the whole shitty previous episodes and questionable actions/decisions shown in the series thus far.

Although, I was kinda hoping for the group to kill the hersels and take over the farm... like that poll suggested. lol

for their gun training and pretty slow moving zombies, they were pretty terrible shots and wasted a lot of ammo shooting them in the chest. I assume Darryl knows how to shoot, Shane and Andrea are expert marksmen.. seems like it'd only take about 10-12 bullets instead of the 50-60 they wasted. but i guess that wouldn't be dramatic.

^ that was exactly what I was thinking. They fired so many rounds, and when the cameras pans out, you see maybe 20 bodies.

Also, as much as I like that shane brings more action than most characters, his character is a little over the top. i am not sure. He seriously went about it the wrong way by just busting open the barn with no thoughts of it not being a smart plan, but I guess that is the point.

Great ending though, I wish the rest of the season had delivered because I almost stopped watching it with all the baby mama drama and boring shit.

'shows back up' isn't _much of_ a spoiler anyway. if they brought the actor back, you'd know it before watching the episode.

however, the show has veered so far off from the comics, so it's really moot point to discuss what happened in the comics. no sense in ruining something that they might actually follow.

^^That's beside the point. There's another entire thread dedicated to discussion of the comics and how they may or may not differ from the show. For the purposes of this thread, this comics shouldn't exist and people that keep talking about them (trolling for lulz, or otherwise ) are dicks.

Quote :

That's really not for you (or anyone else) to decide. It's been expressed many times by many people that this thread should be used to discuss the show and things that have already happened. MOST people don't want to hear about the damn comics. If we start drawing the line of "well, that's talking about what happened in the comics, but I don't think it's too bad" then where does it stop? The rule set forth by the mods has been to not talk about anything from the comics in this thread. /discussion.

The complete lack of recoil on any of the guns really got on my nerves. Also, since when is Andrea an expert marksmen? She's had like 2 days of training, before which she didn't even know how to clean the gun.

yea, that part annoyed the crap out of me too. Especially the episode from the previous week where shane and her were getting surrounded by zombies... come on. She is not going to make 5 head shots in a row after practicing a handful of times, it is just not realistic (I hate when they ruin cool shit with simple things like no recoil or overdone CGI).

Funny you should mention the recoil thing, every episode that I watch with my room mate (who is a gun fanatic), he yells at the tv about every mistake, which is a few times every episode.

The recoil thing annoyed me too, and it was especially bad when Andrea was shooting basically straight at the camera and didn't flinch at all.

What bothered me more was that they used CGI on Sophia's face. I can't think of a better time to bust out your best zombie make up skills and zombify a little girl for TV...but instead they had shitty, shifty CGI - complete with close ups on her face.

She probably couldn't handle the makeup. Or maybe it broke child labor laws with the amount of time it takes to apply the makeup and shoot the scene. I know that's why a lot of shows use identical twins when children are young.

And Andrea becoming an expert marksman is important to the show as well. They didn't progress into that fact very well though. She is surrounded by zombies and then, poof, something clicks in her head, and she rips off 10 kill shots in a row like some badass? That was bullshit.

I won't argue that it wasn't important that Andrea becomes a marksman, but I need more convincing than shane just yelling at her. People who can hit consecutive head shots like she did are ones that train for years. I am fine with her having some raw talent, but .. just.. no.

As for CGI. I don't even know where to start, but it has ruined movies for me for the last 10 years or so. This show, good lord has the worst CGI. It was funny during season 1. When in the final episode they blow up the CDC. It was so ridiculous that it was funny, I am not sure if that was the intention. But now the show has taken a serious note , imo, and much more dramatic so it is not funny anymore to me. Before the whole thing was unlikely and ridiculous and awesome zombie kills, who cares if there is a few obvious mistakes. Now there is 1.5 zombie kills per episode this season, and the mistakes are way easier to spot when you spend 15 minutes listening Lori bitch about stupid shit, then you finally get some action ... eh, and then it is riddled with crap CGI, and it makes it a big let down. I was hoping the less action, meant more quality action.... I just hope the producers can figure out how to balance drama with GOOD action so they can satisfy the majority (= more $$) while still appealing to the zombie/action fans.

its an hour long expansive drama on basic cable. I mean shit, it doesnt even have the highest budget for shows on AMC. You guys need to suspend some disbelief, its not like they have a box office budget.

I know it is personal preference, I would rather they use no CGI personally, and did makeup and stunts on their own, that's all. I like the show alot, the only realy complaint I have is the baby mama drama taking up too much time.

and when you make a show with a lot of shooting, gun recoil is a consideration someone should have made, especially when they figured out it would extend beyond the first season. But I know in reality, they have a small budget and big things to produce so I am happy overall. Hopefully they have the resources and budget in the future to consider these things

it broke basic cable ratings records and it still has a smaller budget than mad men and I think breaking bad as well. TWD has more viewers than both of those other two combined. AMC needs to get their shit in gear, but until they do you need to expect things like cgi, less zombies, more interior scenes etc.

i too immediately noticed no recoil from some of the shooting. as well as... where are they getting their ammo from? i see them playing target practice like they have unlimited ammunition, but i never see them carrying any around. they just grab that good baretta 92 that all production companies have way too many of, and tuck it in their pants before they are off.

how about even an extra magazine or two?

Didn't Andrea have a chrome looking pistol earlier in the season? Regardless, while I acknowledge its a zombie show, things that break your immersion into the show are what hamper the experience overall. With Andrea it was along the lines of"hey cool a Beretta like mine...wait, is it not recoiling? What the hell"

Bitching about the CGI on a zombie show wouldn't have much merit, aside from ghe fact that there are many scenes with dozens of zombies on camera at once in all of their gruesome glory, not to mention the iconic "bicycle zombie" that really showed us what they can do. What they did to sophia's face was turrible

In Talking Dead they talked a little about that. They mentioned that they wanted to keep her less gruesome so as to keep with the "humanizing of the walkers" theme of this latest episode. They didn't mention any CGI, just makeup only a lot less of it. They shot an alternate scene where she didn't have any makeup on at all, and just showed her squinting up at the sunlight with her arms up but when the camera shot her from the back you could see the bite mark and the blood running down before you were snapped back into the reality that she was turned into a walker. That would have been interesting. See it through the delusional view of perhaps the mom or something as she goes running to her kid.

This shit always bugs the hell out of me. It was even worse in Pirates of the Caribbean with Kiera Knightly (Elizabeth Swan). She's a sheltered governor's daughter and then magically a week later she is a better sword fighter than lifelong pirates and soliders. G.T.F.O.

anyway back OT
