Oddsac sounds so much better through headphones than a rowdy crowd in Chapel Hill

The Suburbs hit #1 in the UK and USA
8/11/2010 12:49:00 PM
Jesus, wow. That's a crazy accomplishment for them
8/11/2010 3:13:18 PM
would be more impressive if they weren't selling it for $3.99 on Amazon
8/11/2010 3:20:06 PM
My nutsack runs through it, again and again and again.
8/11/2010 3:24:00 PM
liking the candy claws album.

who can recommend me some good irish bands? indie, folk, celtic, it doesn't matter. I'm heading over there in 2 weeks I'm already aware of U2, Cranberries, and Van Morrison as the big names.I already listen to/have BellX1, Two Door Cinema Club, The Frames/Swell Season, Damien Rice etc..wouldn't mind some input on traditional irish music too.

For anyone who's interested, Sasha Frere-Jones wrote an insightful and accurate, but brief, piece for The New Yorker about the success of The Suburbs and what it means for Merge Records, independent record labels, and the recording industry in general.http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/musical/2010/08/16/100816crmu_music_frerejonesI found these two parts in particular to be on the money:
8/12/2010 7:45:57 PM
The idea of a label identity is an extremely important one. If I see anything on Merge in a discount bin, I buy it immediately, because the chances are very high that it contains excellent pop songs.
8/12/2010 9:45:34 PM
Right, that's what I took from it, too. Same thing with Matador for a lot of people (but instead of the songs being catchy, you know they'll rock)....and an album on 4AD will probably be darker in sound...I completely agree with his point on that.
8/12/2010 9:49:12 PM
if i had to pick a favorite label i think it would be subpop or carpark
8/12/2010 10:36:41 PM
the new of montreal has confused me.
8/13/2010 7:21:12 PM
8/13/2010 7:26:12 PM
8/13/2010 9:03:36 PM
it's kind of all over the place...it seemed kind of unfocused to me, idk, i'll have to listen to it a few more times
8/13/2010 9:07:04 PM
i think it's pretty great.
8/14/2010 8:55:41 AM
it might be, i only heard it once and it sounded like there was too much going on in each song, but i'll have to listen to it a few more times.
8/14/2010 10:09:22 AM
oh dont get me wrong, i really like itbut it does seems a little... disjointed at times?but i think that adds to the allure.
8/14/2010 10:59:05 AM
I'm not their biggest fan.
8/14/2010 11:08:27 AM
i have to say, that other than hissing fauna, sunlandic twins and satanic panic, their stuff can be pretty grating.but i dig false priest.
8/14/2010 11:29:47 AM
i think that other than the early elephant six stuff, their albums can be pretty grating. but i liked hissing fauna.
8/14/2010 12:15:40 PM
it sounds like a full length B side of Skeletal Lamping
8/14/2010 6:46:38 PM
well that's pretty discouraging
8/14/2010 6:47:12 PM
and i really really liked the previous album but this one just doesn't "catch" for me
8/14/2010 11:58:50 PM
false priest has a few very enjoyable tracks ("coquet coquette", "like a tourist", and "girl named hello" come to mind), but i don't think it's going to be getting many repeat listens. that said, i'd still love to see oM perform this material live b/c of how over the top barnes gets with these kinds of sex-obsessed songs.

8/16/2010 7:39:04 AM
new (old) soundgarden single was released on itunes. i enjoyed it after the initial listen.
8/18/2010 7:49:07 PM
damn if i'm not lovin me some Frontier Ruckus
8/20/2010 10:43:04 AM
Got the Lost in the Trees record. The songs on it are pretty good (and there's two in particular that I really like), but there's a really long orchestral piece on each side. I understand that it's part of what they do and the pieces themselves are very pretty, but goddamn are they out of place.
8/20/2010 12:14:21 PM
New Cee-Lo. Shit rules.
8/20/2010 2:05:28 PM
Surprise Sufjan EP out on the internet today. It's a long ass EP, 8 songs, 60 minutes. Haven't listened yet.^damn, that song is really good[Edited on August 20, 2010 at 3:02 PM. Reason : .]

http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2010/07/27/lupe-fiasco-fans-demand-more-music/About Lupe Fiasco's new album "Lasers". No release date set, but he has said that the album is complete. Really looking forward to this. "The Cool" was a great album, IMO. Also, J.Cole (signed to Jay-Z's record label) is set to come out with an album in late October. He's from Fayetteville, NC and was featured on Jay-Z's "Blueprint 3",Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek's "Revolutions Per Minute", and on Wale's "Attention Deficit". He's definitely one of my favorite new artists.
8/20/2010 3:28:02 PM
Several of the songs on this Sufjan Stevens EP are really gorgeous IMO. Hard to listen to it and not think of Joanna Newsom, but it'd be hard to tell which of the two deserve more of the credit for that. His voice is more unhinged like Newsom's on this EP.
8/20/2010 3:39:06 PM
Sufjan EP is A+++
8/20/2010 5:06:36 PM
i don't think i've listened to an entire Sufjan Stevens album since like 2006. used to be really into the guy, but now it all sounds pretty annoying to me. new EP didn't change my mind.
8/20/2010 7:25:52 PM
"djohariah" is incredible
8/21/2010 6:36:29 PM
I have probably listened to that Cee-Lo song 25 times in two-ish days.
8/22/2010 9:10:32 PM
i have a feeling it's going to get really overplayed in the coming weeks/months and become really annoying after a while, which would be a shame since it's pretty awesome.
8/22/2010 9:21:49 PM
anyone know what noel gallagher of oasis is up to? it'd be cool if he released something solo this yr, my friend heard some of his new acoustic solo stuff and loved it
8/22/2010 11:33:18 PM
I am noticing that arcade fire sounds like a lot of things.for instance i heard "The Killing Moon" by Echo & the Bunnymen on XM today and was like '...whoa,' during parts of it.maybe because it's arcade fire weekend on another channel and i had them on the brain.
8/23/2010 3:17:12 AM
new thermals is solid...i like the last one more, but the songs are good, particularly the single "i don't believe you"streaming the jenny & johnny record off npr. it's not bad, but i'm afraid j.lew will never get back to rabbit furcoat territory

will it be as good as this, though?
8/24/2010 9:26:10 AM
Currently pretty obsessed with "Djohariah" on the new Sufjan EP. Gets better with each listen. The first 12 or so minutes are a jam that Crazy Horse would be proud of.
