My Incredible just shipped from Memphis, TN. Should be here Thursday! wooo
4/27/2010 11:10:31 AM
I'm just going to the store on thurs to buy it, no point possibly missing the delivery since it's a signature required
4/27/2010 11:12:03 AM
^ If you leave a note with the tracking # and maybe state a safe neighborhood with your signature they will leave it. This is what I did for my wife's Nexus One.
4/27/2010 11:12:56 AM
You can also just call UPS and have it rerouted for pickup.
4/27/2010 11:35:11 AM
Best practice is to send it to your place of employment that way someone is likely there to sign in the event you are not.
4/27/2010 11:36:23 AM
How are you guys finding the tracking #? When I check on Verizon's website, it just says that the order has been processed and I should receive it in 2-3 business days.
4/27/2010 12:10:56 PM
^^yeah, no doubt.
4/27/2010 12:21:31 PM
looks like more incredibles are being delivered today.
4/27/2010 12:39:12 PM
Nevermind, just got the email with shipping info.

Noob post! Can you not put the same widgets on the motorola droid as you can the HTC phones running android?
4/27/2010 4:22:32 PM
^ the widgets come from the apps... the apps are in the market... the market is available on both the motorola droid and the HTC Incredible so both phones have access to the same apps. There may be some apps that come on HTC Sense UI, that would not be on the Droid... of course, if there were it would not take much effort to find the .apk file and install it using a file manager like Astro (in the market also).
4/27/2010 4:43:51 PM
The HTC exclusive apps like the clock/weather widget, friendsteam, etc are so entangled in the HTC framework that it isn't as simple as just pulling the file and putting it on the droid. That's why you see knockoffs like Beautiful Widgets instead of the ported app.[Edited on April 27, 2010 at 4:52 PM. Reason : ]

No surprise here, Android surpasses iPhone web traffic:[Edited on April 27, 2010 at 5:54 PM. Reason : r]

Since this will be my first Android phone (and smartphone, to boot), I'm not sure if I should get a task killer. Pros & cons? Does it damage you phone in any way (I've read this a few times)?
4/27/2010 6:04:53 PM
i'm carrying that webOS traffic by myself
4/27/2010 6:04:55 PM
Best thing about Windows Mobile? Bubble Breaker.
4/27/2010 6:06:50 PM
What all service providers support Androids? Verizon and what else
4/27/2010 6:08:11 PM
^Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T
4/27/2010 6:15:07 PM
4/27/2010 6:21:30 PM
You shouldn't need a task killer especially on a device like the Incredible. There are more articles on google about why not to use them than there are that recommend them.
4/27/2010 6:26:32 PM
^6 Nah, I'm helping out too
4/27/2010 7:29:53 PM
looks like a rooted incredible may not be far off. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=669423

n00b postDoes anyone know of an app that lets you manage profiles in such a way that you can change profiles depending on the time of day? What I would like to do is have my phone on vibrate from 8-5, and then loud between 5-8.I checked out quick profile but I dont think it does what I would like.
4/28/2010 12:32:55 AM
I think Locale might be able to do it based on time as well as location
4/28/2010 12:40:16 AM
38 hours til I pick up my Incredible. I'm not excited or anything... I still have the enV 1.

Jealous of everyone getting the Incredible this week. Dammit.
4/28/2010 9:38:08 AM
Ha, went to the store to get some screen protectors and asked if they had a demo of the incredible available. He said yeah but not one for me to touch but then brought it out when he was ringing me up. lol. Have to say it's a pretty sweet phone. I compared my Droid running SenseUI at 1GHz and the Incredible side-by-side and they were about the same speed-wise when switching screens and opening apps. The Droid did have the occasional lag while the Incredible never stuttered. The software for the camera is way better on the Incredible and pictures come out a lot faster. It's light but feels good in the hand, not sure why there are so many reports of it feeling cheap. If I didn't have a Droid already, the Incredible would definitely be a must have. And apparently the one in Fuquay is getting 45 but the guy was like "you might want to schedule and appointment if you want one". yeah, sure thing.[Edited on April 28, 2010 at 1:44 PM. On process management applications for Droid OS phones (words):Synopsis: Process management apps are a waste of timeThe way the android operating system works, services and apps "running" in the background can be taking up a small amount of memory but little to no processing time or other resources (read "battery life," etc). The way the OS works is that it just frees up memory as it needs it, so activities can sit in the background and do nothing, be freed whenever the phone needs to do something else, and left dead or brought back to life as needed. What you end up doing with a process manager program is wasting your time dropping background processes that have to be reloaded if they need to be used (causing lag) and wasting battery life on a process manager that is constantly doing work to destroy apps and services that aren't really causing any harm. It's counterproductive to say the least. If your phone needs extra memory to do something, it'll take it. The background stuff is not causing a big enough drain on your battery to be significant, unless you have some buggy ass apps or widgets. Don't waste your time with a process manager, it's not worth it.
4/28/2010 2:47:37 PM
^ while I agree and typically point out to not use a task manager/killer, I will say there have been times when my memory is so low and the phone (albeit I have a G1, not like you fuckers with your spiffy phones, ha) comes to a stumble SOME times. When I kill the apps... all good in the hood, speed is right back. So yeah, I agree... but on phones like the G1 killing the apps certainly has its time and place.
4/28/2010 3:05:10 PM
^What version of android are you running on your G1? I have been developing on a dev phone that is that style, and it can't run android OS > 1.6
4/28/2010 7:03:41 PM
which store did you find the incredible at?I went to the crossroads store and they look at me funny when i ask about it.I went to buy a screen protector for the one that is coming tomorrow.. and they said sorry, fuck off.
4/28/2010 8:25:54 PM
I went to the one in Fuquay. Guy claimed they would have 45 when they open in the morning and tried to get me to make an appointment lol. And hell, they even already had the screen protectors stocked there cause they were right beside the ones for the Droid.[Edited on April 28, 2010 at 8:35 PM. Reason : ]

Getting the Incredible tomorrow; we got CJL; my week has suddenly become exponentially better.

http://metrics.admob.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/AdMob-Mobile-Metrics-Mar-10.pdfPage 9 bottom left graph shows android continuing to erode iPhone market share (measured by web traffic).
4/28/2010 10:21:33 PM
Is the Mac vs Windows all over again. The iPhone OS is superior, but is on a single carrier on a single model of phone vs the Android OS on multiple carriers with multiple hardware.Apple needs to try and get on Verizon. But, perhaps the next iPhone revision will be A+ as Jobs claimed.
4/28/2010 10:25:38 PM
Uh ...
4/28/2010 10:50:04 PM
I do not see how a smartphone OS that will not even run AIM or Google Talk in the background could be superior to anything.
4/28/2010 11:05:52 PM
because it's faster, more consistent, more stable, has better APIs, properly handles .ics, better exchange support, MUCH better technical support available, remote wipe capabilities, and has apps that all conform to proper standards so they don't block the phone from sleeping or answering calls properly.Basically it's far more mature. Mulitasking is a trivial thing to add. The iPhone OSes core is clearly superior though.Android does a lot of nice things (particularly the way it handles widgets), but is still very beta-ish. And the apps are no where near as polished as iPhone apps.
4/28/2010 11:12:37 PM
^Oh, I see.
4/28/2010 11:49:07 PM
awww poor fanboy had his feelings hurt.
4/28/2010 11:54:38 PM
^epic fail, nice try, he's actually a webOS user not Android user

4/29/2010 12:05:42 AM
^ where is the 3rd party app that does ics files (seriously, this bugs the crap out of me on my Droid).all the 3rd party apps in the world don't fill in the lack of attention to detail that Apple is famous for that hasn't had time to filter into the Android yet.

I honestly can't wait until iPhone OS 4 gets released and backgrounding apps are official. Not because I'm looking forward to being able to run multiple apps as much as all the haters will actually have to find something else to bitch about.
