3/24/2010 4:37:35 PM
it really wasn't that bad when you break it down to the fact that it's just a bunch of individual responses grouped together in one post. if i made each one a separate post, since they're unrelated anyhow, they'd only be a few lines for the most part. It's not one long ass post - which i've been known to do from time to time.Just read the quoted text, if you're interested in that, read what i had to say about it. If not, move on.

- forgot last night's episode opened with an eye- they did the old flashback sound when they first cut to richard riding the horse in the 1860s. i think someone already might've commented that this was the first episode of season 6 with a flashback instead of a flash sideways- nestor carbonell's acting is pretty great in the scene where MiB brings him the water on the ship - the big tree in 2007 where richard dug up the necklace was small when he first buried it. thought that was cool- jobob told richard that it wasn't his wife that he saw on the ship. i don't think that could've been MiB since he's always needed a body in order to possess the dead, and it obviously wasn't him at the end of the episode when hurley was translating or whatever. whoever/whatever it was might be the same thing as ben's mom/walt/christian- jobob said no one comes to the island unless he invites them. presumably the US military and the dharma initiative must have found some way around that.
3/24/2010 6:27:37 PM
^ jacob said no one comes inside the statue unless they're invited. we've already seen how people get to the island (the lamp post station).
3/24/2010 6:49:11 PM
I thought about it some more, and yeah, MIB and "the evil" are definitely two separate things. In fact, I think MIB used to be on Jacob's side, helping him keep the evil contained. His role was to act as the islands security system (the smoke monster), making sure that no outside forces ever endangered the island. One day, he concluded that humanity was already evil by nature, so why should he bother protecting the island anymore. This explains why Jacob wants to prove to him wrong, so he'll go back to protecting the island. I also think that the army, dharma initiative, and the bomb are all results of MIB no longer doing his job.[Edited on March 24, 2010 at 7:19 PM. Reason : posting stoned again]

Are you guys confusing the Lamp Post with the Looking Glass or am I just missing something here
3/24/2010 7:17:39 PM
yeah i definitely messed up there. the lamp post didn't always exist either though. i'm pretty sure dharma built that too, so the US military wouldn't have found the island using the lamp post.
3/24/2010 7:24:55 PM
the looking glass has nothing to do with this. it was simply the window where charlie died. may have been the name of the station but it was for dharma communication.
3/24/2010 7:26:49 PM
aside: Farraday's mom mentioned that the Lamp Post was built by a "very smart [unnamed] man"An interesting loose end that I don't see being tied up
3/24/2010 7:29:27 PM
I dont know why, but I always thought she was somehow alluding to Faraday being the "smart man" who built the station
3/24/2010 7:47:55 PM
i always thought it was Faraday (after he traveled back in time) who built that. But when he was off the island, he was in Michigan. So I doubt he built the station that was in california.
3/24/2010 7:48:13 PM
3/24/2010 8:10:59 PM
i just read about it, it was actually built before dharma was there. Eloise said it's how they found the island to begin with. Not that it matters, just fwiw.

3/24/2010 9:23:44 PM

About this "war" that's coming to the island. Obviously Widmore is on one side. Does that necessarily mean that MiB and his followers are the other side? Is Widmore trying to get back to the island to ensure that MiB stays there, or is here there for something else entirely? My first thought is that he's there to control the island and exploit it somehow for his own purposes. My second thought is that he's there just to get revenge on Ben for getting him kicked off the island and off the list of possible "candidates." (Aren't they essentially on the same "side" now though?) Third, could Widmore actually be there to take MiB as prisoner and use him to wreak havoc on the rest of the world?
3/24/2010 11:33:56 PM
^Yeah I think Widmore isn't there to kill the MiB too. When Sawyer said he would lure him out so he could kill him, it didn't seem like Widmore really wanted him dead but wanted him lured out none the less. I could see him teaming up with the MiB to get back at Jacob/Ben.
3/25/2010 7:42:05 AM
Real quick, any comments that the alternative line is what happens if MIB gets out? That is the "cork" is popped?
3/25/2010 8:51:14 AM
no
3/25/2010 9:23:43 AM
short answer - no.Longer answer w/o full explanation - Maybe, but not exactly in the sense you're talking about. More that it's his way to escape. with the island being the bottle/container, the island is underwater and in turn "broken", or broken (and underwater) as a result of the em field being neutralized - assuming this time-line is the same as the one that they set the bomb off on. - but that's a big maybe depending on a lot of other little things. And I'm not inclined to think it's the case for a lot of reasons.
3/25/2010 9:49:30 AM
$100 says Jobob and MiB are brothers or at least raised together. Most likely born as gods or demigods. Some traumatic event probably happens to their mother/father/sibling that makes one blame the other, and now they are fighting for all eternity. Pretty similar to any mythological story if you ask me. Also Why 4-toes?Why can Hurley see dead people? What happened to Walt?Where the fuck is Vincent?

I know what happened to Walt. I know that he's off the island, but we don't know why he was the focus of pretty much a whole season and why he was special. The bigger question is why were all the children special in the early seasons? Were some of these kids at the Temple this season? I seem to remember younger people there. This is probably one of those things they might mention but won't give a concise reason. At this point in the show I can accept them leaving some things unanswered as long as they tie up the main plot.
3/25/2010 11:53:55 AM
He obviously wasn't as special as the Others thought he might be, seeing as they just let him leave.[Edited on March 25, 2010 at 11:57 AM. Reason : and yeah, Zach and Emma were at the temple, they were the kids snatched from the tail section]
3/25/2010 11:56:23 AM
simple answer? because they had school, though they did make a big deal out of walt who did actually seem to have some powers, but as we know now that could've been MiB or was that the year of the writers strike?long answer? because Ben was making up orders because he never actually got any orders from JabobI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.[Edited on March 25, 2010 at 12:00 PM. I'm gonna be pretty pissed if they don't do answer anything about Walt. He obviously has some kind of psychic powers. The polar bears obviously showed up after he was reading about them in the comic. The birds obviously started hitting the glass door when he was reading the book about them. Even on one of the "Lost: Missing Pieces" shorts, there was a scene when Juliet was talking to Ben about him and there were all the dead birds outside.
3/25/2010 12:05:57 PM
Found this interesting about the knife that was used to try and kill both Jobob and MiB.
3/25/2010 12:06:02 PM
3/25/2010 12:49:05 PM
if they don't do anything about Walt, it's gonna be (even more) obvious that they had no idea what they were doing for the first 3 seasons
3/25/2010 12:51:06 PM
i don't give a shit about walt. he really hasn't done anything after season 1 outside of being the motivation for michael betraying everyone. yeah he had some kind of psychic powers, but ben let him go, so who cares?
3/25/2010 1:33:30 PM
^ that's very true. He seemed like a big deal, but Locke was even more pivotal over the years... and he's dead now. So Walt may not have been all that important in the long run. Also, Walt seemed like a big deal back then, but the series was originally only intended for something like 4 seasons. Then after a season or so, it was extended and they weren't sure how long it was going to last. Once that happened, a problem arose. The actor was 11/12 playing a 10 year old in the first season, 13 in the latter seasons. The actor is 17 now. With the original concept, the actor would only be around 15 at the end of the series - assuming he was needed until the very end. Those 2-3yrs between 15 and 17/18 can make a huge difference in appearance. And 15 may not have been too bad since he would have been older off island once they left. And for all they knew, they were going to have to stretch it out to a point that the actor would be 20.They may have had to can whatever role he was going to play in the overall plot. Or simply replace it with someone else - maybe it was walt who was going to see dead people and not hurley? Or Miles took his place, or some things that would have been Walt have been distributed to a variety of characters. So, i'm not going to be upset about Walt not playing a pivotal role or assume that his not being involved means they didn't know what they were doing. I hope they incorporate him somehow though.[Edited on March 25, 2010 at 1:44 PM. Reason : .]

^That and what we've gotten to know about Walt has been somewhat misleading. I am not saying he doesn't have a supernatural sense to him, because we know for a fact he does. however, i don't believe it to be as serious as was implied. someone above mentioned the polar bears. that was a big scene at first because we didn't know that polar bears existed on the island, but once we did it was no longer a big deal. As far as lost goes Walt is a pretty minor deal and some people are mentally stuck in season one and have issues coming to terms with that fact.
3/25/2010 4:00:41 PM
What I would like to know is what the Hostile's intentions were. They put so much effort into getting Walt. "They want him for his POWERS" is just not enough.
