^ McCain's ad didn't say otherwise. His ad simply quoted the language of the bill without definition. That's why it can best be described as unfair. It was not a lie, as nutsmacker has contended. And it is really no worse than anything Obama is putting out there as this Spanish ad shows.

What is the unemployment is france? They outsource jobs to help keep their prices down nuts. You have to pay employees here more, esp if they are union, and deal with the second highest coorporate tax rates in the world. THEN, you expect them to compete globally. Cant happen.
9/18/2008 3:31:40 PM
so again, the US doesn't suck as much as other countries. Again, why should the US government as a form of policy reward companies that outsource american jobs?
9/18/2008 3:34:51 PM
^ 8.3% in 2007.
9/18/2008 3:35:34 PM
I wonder why the dip in the polls--if it was because of the negative ads, the press uproar over the negative ads, or people becoming less enamored with Palin.
9/18/2008 3:42:11 PM
It is because the bounce is over.
9/18/2008 3:43:05 PM
it's because of the negative ads. once he admits he was a dumbass and obama continues going to his celebrity parties, he'll take another lead.

It's funny to me that they started out mocking Obamas message of change, now they are trying to co-opt it (and doing a poor job).
9/18/2008 4:29:45 PM
^^ I hope this leads to more discussions about how experience really matters to Obama voters. The hypocrisy makes me grin.[Edited on September 18, 2008 at 4:30 PM. Reason : moron, McCain is the original change candidate. Despite what the Pepsi Candidate tells you.]

9/18/2008 5:24:14 PM
^ More evidence that policy doesn't mean jack-squat in an election. Which only re-enforces my lack of confidence in democracy's ability to yield desirable policy results.Note: I said that when McCain started gaining support too. His policies didn't change, but people started supporting because of who he picked as VP (or visa versa in some cases)? Just fucking crazy.
9/18/2008 5:46:15 PM
I do not think that is true. The people I have spoken to are taking policy extremely seriously. I think the majority of the switching involves people changing their minds on which issue is more important to their lives.

Oh I don't expect he would, that's not why I posted it hoping to get Ron Paul die hards or anything...
9/18/2008 7:50:00 PM
moron, It illustrates that policy doesn't mean jack because McCain surged in the women vote last week and it sounds like he's losing it this week. However, none of his policy positions have changed in the time frame.

Obama's lack of economic knowledge continues to scare me. He has yet to decide whether he supports or opposes the AIG bailout. Yet def knows that he opposes McCain's position. Huh??From Politico.
9/18/2008 10:19:38 PM
(It's funny that he has a graph showing gas prices under the Bush administration, but then has a picture of Obama. As if to pin it on him.)
9/18/2008 10:21:26 PM
"as if to pin it on him"no, more like showing gas prices, and then pinning on obama that he doesnt want to support legislation for drilling to help gas prices

Kainen, Talk about attacking a source and not the argument.I know who he is. I read slate often and have read Landsburg's "Armchair economist". None of that makes his argument wrong. I have advanced the same argument myself several times and no one has yet to even respond. I take that to assume it's air tight. And just for the record. Plenty of big name and nobel winning economists support John McCain. Here Marty Feldstein and John Taylor arguing for his support (particuarly on his tax plan). http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122031215585888783.html?mod=googlenews_wsjAnd here's a petition signed by economists like Gary Becker, Ken Rogoff, and others that support John McCain in general. Even Barry Goodwin of NCSU. http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/News/PressReleases/Read.aspx?guid=c90681b9-5dfe-4de4-8057-ceedb30c228d[Edited on September 19, 2008 at 8:30 AM. Reason : ``]

I want to know what are considered "minor problems." w woman could go to the doctor for an ache under her arm and have it turn out to be breast cancer. And I think it's safe to say that the preventative approach ends up being cheaper there than waiting until you're literally about to die and going to the ER.
9/19/2008 8:53:47 AM
^^ Don't make yourself look foolish socks. Economists have biases as well. There are many issues influencing their judgment. Let's take a look at what the lion's share think shall we? CNN.com had a commentary by Scott Adams (who writes Dilbert) at http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/16/dilbert.economy/index.html---------He commissioned a survey of 500 economists from the AEA to find who they thought was the better candidate for the economy:
