well anyone with something newish and sporty, lets hit a group ride sometime. I haven't ridden on the streets in ages and I got a new toy

9/6/2010 12:16:37 AM
Don't hate.
9/6/2010 3:05:18 AM
not hating, just want a group that can keep up the suspension dynamics and tires on old cruisers won't really allow for that
9/6/2010 8:55:28 AM
Hey buddyThe decals on my sidecovers say "supersport"
9/6/2010 11:24:43 AM
I know smooth. Was talking to ernie,
9/6/2010 3:42:55 PM
I've got an '07 SV. Once I get my tires swapped out this week, I'm game for some riding.
9/7/2010 11:03:06 AM
woo, just got my RD 350! needs to be completely torn down and rebuilt but should be runnin in a year or so! worthless without pics
9/7/2010 10:29:30 PM
Them RZ's are fucking fast as hell but there LC the RD is air yeah???
9/7/2010 10:47:14 PM
yup. air cooled. has a bubble fairing and lower chin fairing, cafe seat, 2 sets of expansion chambers[Edited on September 7, 2010 at 10:53 PM. Reason : mad max as hell]
9/7/2010 10:52:54 PM
Your neighbors will hate you. They banned those noisy two strokes on the street for a reason. I've always liked the RD's though.Hey, post pics of that bubble fairing!
9/7/2010 11:32:45 PM
will do, gotta round up a camera.my room mate just got a Harley with drag pipes, the neighbors are definitely going to be pissed... between the two we will have the whole sound spectrum covered
9/7/2010 11:39:38 PM
These are what I run on my HD bobber and let just say there pretty loud.
9/8/2010 5:24:26 PM
I bet those things are a bitch to tune. I made my last set of drag pipe baffles, but they're a little too restrictive. I like the design of these Khromewerks baffles, nice low sound with a little backpressure for low-rpm torque.
9/8/2010 5:33:24 PM
Yeah they were but I got it running pretty good.
9/8/2010 5:56:37 PM
[Edited on September 10, 2010 at 3:57 PM. Reason : D]
9/10/2010 3:57:02 PM
Awesome.[Edited on September 10, 2010 at 5:15 PM. Reason : I love those RD tanks. They're so lean and low.]
9/10/2010 5:14:55 PM
Thats sweet man! Cant wait to see it when it is all done!!!
9/10/2010 9:33:35 PM
Very nice. I see a lot of potential here.
9/12/2010 6:47:59 AM
Supposedly you can massage 60+ horses out of them with a little work, and pull the weight down to sub 300lbs. Hell, should be fun at 40hp and 350lbs.
9/12/2010 10:09:36 AM
Started taking it apart today. Missing a bunch of random shit... Tail light, turn signals, oil filler cap, one of two seat hinges, some rearward frame bit that I saw in a parts diagram, brake fluid , um... Probably some other stuff...Also hooked it up to power to check everything out. Horn works (except with kill switch in on position), Neutral light works (except with kill switch in on position....:mad, gauge backlights work, headlight high and low works. Seems all the other dash lights may be dead. Not sure whats going on with some of the right side handlebar controls but i'll post a pic later and see what you guys think two on's and one off is for. Gonna get a seal and gasket kit and tear the engine/tranny down to make sure the jugs and pistons are good and that everything is lubed up and clean. Then I'll try to crank it and see if I oughter get an aftermarket ignition. The plugs I pulled today were a bit black.
9/13/2010 3:50:36 AM
is all the time and money you're gonna spend fixing it going to be worth the maybe 60hp/300lbs bike you'll end up with? can you make money selling this as a collectors item type thing?
9/13/2010 7:35:19 AM
Be quiet, voice of reason! RD's aren't that rare. I saw a few for $200 when I was looking, more typically in the $1000 range for a runner.
9/13/2010 9:57:31 AM
yeah it's a 2 stroke. of course the plugs will be blacked out. start to worry when they are melted
9/13/2010 10:32:54 AM
lol
9/13/2010 10:41:44 AM
Any of you guys ever painted your own bikes? I'd like to do my own rattlecan paint job, and I know it can be done to near professional standards, but it will cost in the $300 range to get that quality of paint and primer, even in a rattle can. My fairings are in pretty rough shape, so if I could just get everything matching and looking halfway decent for $150 or so, I'm really considering putting in the elbow grease. Anyone have any experience doing something similar? My bike isn't worth much('89 ex500), so I don't want to sink much into it, but I would love for it to look a little prettier, since I'll probably be riding it for a while. Any thoughts?

Harbor Freight sells a decent sprayer for $15. Get that, borrow an air compressor and shoot that premix paint Advance sells in quarts.I shot mine with rustoleum thinned with acetone. Looks about like you'd expect it(not much gloss), but it's all one color and is holding up fine for $20.If you're dead set on using rattle-can, this stuff is good, will withstand gas spills:http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_2_part_2k_aerosol.cfm[Edited on September 13, 2010 at 3:21 PM. 9/13/2010 3:19:46 PM
do you have an pics of your paint job?
9/13/2010 3:26:16 PM
Mine, nah, it's nothing special. I think I used rustoleum satin to avoid too much shine. Here's a tank sprayed with that rattle clear I mentioned above though. The base coat is Killer Cans Black Gold Base Pearl, about $50.[Edited on September 13, 2010 at 3:39 PM. Reason : allow an extra $15 for a harbor freight respirator, this is some nasty stuff]
9/13/2010 3:34:42 PM
^ where did you get this paint?I picked up a 85 yamaha rd350 for a friend. cleaning/creaming the gas tank and cleaning carbs on it. hope to have it puttering around by friday.

9/15/2010 9:46:09 AM

Give me some time to tlc this unit rusty and tired but a strong platform to build from it is. Tank cream takes 72-96 hours to dry. Should be puttering by monday
9/16/2010 10:46:09 AM
9/16/2010 11:27:35 AM
haha, my neighbors don't seem to mind too much when I fire up my 1300cc 2-stroke Waverunner and blow a huge cloud of smoke all the way down the street.I give them heads-up to close their garage doors and stuff.
9/16/2010 12:00:22 PM
9/16/2010 12:07:12 PM
^^ My dad's XL1200 isn't really loud. Aftermarket exhaust?
9/16/2010 12:40:30 PM
yeah, aftermarket all sorts of stuff.i wouldn't say that it's quiet even in the water. it's flat-out loud when you're running it in the driveway on the hose.[Edited on September 16, 2010 at 1:13 PM. Reason : ]

There was some screwball that stopped into the shop a bit ago driving a scooter from DC to Alaska. kinda the same but not as much shit lol. http://www.trackpete.net/2010/07/arctic-scooter-gear-going-all.html
9/16/2010 10:23:16 PM
Also the xt350 has a primary and secondary carb, as the manual likes to call it.The bike now runs and it runs very well.
