with TOB at the helm here, I don't worry about recruiting anymore, really. TOB and company have a long history of finding "diamond in the rough" talent and developing players. UNC had highly ranked recruiting classes under Bunting, and they'll continue to do the same under Butch, but stars don't win games.Stole this from StateFans:

Damn, how many freaking scholarships do they have at UNC.

I think one of the guys on PP said that UNC was now 10 over on scholarships, haha. Not sure if that's legit or what they'll do to supplement it but I'm sure Butch will manipulate it and make it work.Yeah I've also come around on the TOB recruiting, we got some big-time names last year, and a lot of the names we're getting this year are guys that all the local analyst are raving about and claiming to be super sleepers. I think TOB knows what he is doing. I just hope that when we start having success he can keep finding diamonds in the rough as well as lure in some big-time talent. It seems every year we have a 5-Star OL from NC that goes to the SEC and is never heard of again, haha.

Can anyone remind me of how many redshirt freshman will be coming off the bench/eligible to play next year?

a couple of solid WRs and a few more linebackers and we're in business for next season.

^^We already have a great WR core and they'll be back, so we're set there.^Correct.And UNC just added another player, a 2-Star JUCO TE...amazing, haha. Now putting them 11 scholarships over the limit for next season. I can't wait to see if any flack comes from Butch pulling scholarships.

We've offered safety prospect Donald Coleman. Coleman originally was at St. Mary's Preparatory School in Orchard Lake, MI before moving to The Hun School in Princeton, NJ. He switched from linebacker to safety and running back. He's in a post graduate program and has not yet been evaluated by Scout. Rivals rates him as a 2* prospect. 4* JUCO DT Edwin Herbert will be visiting this weekend. Man this is going to be a huge and potentially program changing weekend for our program with all of the recruits we have visiting and the potential bowl implications. Herbert was originally committed to Tennessee. According to Rivals he is the 29th best JUCO prospect overall.http://jcfootball.scout.com/a.z?s=87&p=8&c=1&nid=3827121http://ncstate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=81536&sport=1Defensive tackleSan Francisco (CA) City College of San FranciscoHt: 6-foot-3Wt: 295 lbsForty: 4.81 secsBench max: 460 poundsSchools Interested (known offers in italics)TennesseeN.C. Herbert is EXACTLY what we need in this class. A "Ready-to-Play" Defensive Tackle in the leroy burgess mold. Next year, Burgess and Cash will be our starters with Crawford as the lone backup. We NEED herbert

He looks like a statue.I hope we get him!
11/27/2008 12:02:58 PM
What big-timers are coming in this weekend? I've heard WR Raper and OT Bond, but nothing on the other guys. Getting those two would be huge, though.

Will Kyle Linney ever play at NCSU? I read on PP that he was on the sidelines of the UNC or Wake game (can't remember which).

^^I don't think so
11/27/2008 4:10:24 PM
i know he's already on the team but....what position does Brandon Barnes play?
11/27/2008 4:30:59 PM
Hearing running back. In 2010 its very possible he would be the feature back. Though I think the jury is still out on Underwood and it's possible Baker would be back to due to a medical redshirt.
11/27/2008 4:48:34 PM
supposedly the staff loves what they're seeing from Barnes at RB. Then again, running behind those stud freshman OL everyday at practice can't hurt
11/27/2008 6:54:38 PM
Underwood is pretty solid. Next year will be Eugene and Underwood, then 2010 will probably be Underwood and Barnes.
11/27/2008 10:07:08 PM
i'm personally looking forward to underwood. everytime he gets carries he's money, aside from the fumbles.
11/27/2008 10:16:17 PM
Has he fumbled this year in the few carries he's gotten? I know he had some trouble with that during his freshman year, but I don't remember him fumbling this year.
11/27/2008 11:25:53 PM
It's not so much the fumbles, but the way he carries the ball. He tends to swing it out from his body instead of tucking it tight, kind of like Deshaun Foster. He did it a lot as a freshman, so hopefully he's learned from that. I haven't seen him enough this year to make a call.
11/28/2008 12:28:25 AM
Yes we have two studs in front of Underwood, but you'd have to think he would play some if he was a really good option. Thats why I'm saying with all of the great things we're hearing about Barnes is that he would be ahead of Underwood on the depth chart.
11/28/2008 12:40:36 AM
I have this expectation that Barnes will be a change-of-pace type back and he'll need an in-between the tackles runner, so hopefully he and Underwood can balance things out. I mean not trying to inflate the situation, but Pete Carroll didn't fly out to visit Barnes and offer him a scholarship to be a RB without him having some potential at the position.

My neighbor would have made a great Wolfpack quarterback...instead, he just signed his letter of intent for Duke. WTF, why can't we get the good homegrown talent anymore.Nov. 10Anthony Boone, QBCharlotte, NCWeddington High SchoolScouts Grade: ESPNU 150 Watch List Duke scores 2010 signal-caller Anthony BooneAnthony Boone, a dual-threat quarterback from Weddington (Charlotte, N.C.), has become the second player to chose Duke in the Class of 2010.The ESPNU 150 Watch List talent was one of over 130 recruits to visit Duke this weekend. He was also offered by Illinois and has drawn interest from Virginia Tech, Clemson and South Carolina, among others. As a sophomore, Boone passed for 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns, while rushing for 950 yards and seven touchdowns.Boone joins athlete Darius Lipford (Lenoir, N.C./Hibriten) as committed players for Duke's 2010 class.

that's just a verbal, not that it makes any difference.

I played flag football yesterday with an OL who is going to Duke although I forgot his name, he was HUGE and only 17
11/28/2008 12:27:49 PM
that narrows it down to about 100% of 17 yr old O Linemen going to play Div. 1 football.
11/28/2008 12:47:14 PM
11/28/2008 1:02:38 PM
^^ he mentioned that he was going to Duke. If he lives in Raleigh than it was probably Perry Simmons.http://ncstate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=85317http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=8&c=1&nid=3806457On a side note Walt Canty, a safety prospect from Dorman HS in Spartanburg, SC that we were recruiting, committed to Duke two weeks ago.
