Wrong party and bad analogy.Barry Goldwater is the guy to compare him to, in both his message and it's impact on the party. Goldwater's influence rippled throughout the GOP for the next 20 years after his landslide defeat in the general election, giving voice to the libertarian-leaning republicans in the party.

i thought liberals were for big government. I can see how they would fight with libertarians.
1/13/2008 12:30:10 PM
^^ I have a brain.
1/13/2008 3:25:40 PM
^^Classical liberalism doesn't have much do with "big government" as far as I know.

Dont Forget Today is another one of Paul's Money Bomb fundraising days (MLK DAY)Donate if you got some extra change!
1/21/2008 10:27:02 AM
bump for Ron Paul.Donated $50 today!
1/21/2008 12:59:08 PM
You could have given it to me instead. Then at least one of us would have had $50.I recently saw that a grand total of 0 people from my home town had donated to presidential campaigns. Smart people. Hundreds from my zip code in raleigh donated, mostly to Edwards, which was also money down the trash. Either way, donating to presidential campaigns is as useless as voting in national elections.
1/21/2008 1:08:58 PM
^atleast you are not cynical
1/21/2008 2:20:28 PM
Well, you have to look on the bright side, at least that's what I say. The average american today can indeed influence national level politics. It just costs considerably more than $50.
1/21/2008 4:46:45 PM
So far, the biggest impact Paul has had is that he has essentially crushed the Guliani campaign by consistently finishing ahead of him (considering that Paul was predicted to do little/nothing and Guliani was predicted as a frontrunner). But I support that.
1/21/2008 5:09:23 PM
i dunno... He has made a lot of people clamour for smaller, more limited gov't...

eh, don't listen to that crazy isolationist I got a guy at work good today. He called RP an "isolationist" in a conversation with someone else, but he said it loud enough so that I could hear it, and that was his intent. I made a *cough*bullshit*cough* type noise, so he asked me for my input. So, I said "Is it isolationist to believe that you should not piss in your neighbor's rose bushes?" He tried to pass it off and go on some tangent, but I held his nose to the fire and asked him that question again.Needless to say, he didn't like it So, realizing that it doesn't make sense to pee in your neighbor's rose bushes, he tried to shift the focus by saying that RP is living in a fantasy world of the 1920s. To which I responded "Yeah, and we didn't have people blowing up our buildings in 1920, did we?" Hehe, he really didn't like that. Freaking war mongers.

^that debate was so shittyRon Paul only got to speak like 5 times!but what else is newHe did win second in the post debate poll after Romney (only lost by 1%). The hosts did mention that most of the crowd was his supporters and that they had packed the halls at the auditorium. But they mostly just dismissed him.Folks, HE IS A VIABLE CANDIDATE!!!
1/26/2008 12:05:15 PM
I admire the fervor of his grassroots supporters but the results in the primaries are not reflecting any real viability. He has a lot of support from the younger demographics (from what I have personally seen) but young ones by far and away usually make up the smallest bloc of voters...[Edited on January 26, 2008 at 12:38 PM. 1/26/2008 12:37:02 PM
I can understand if they set up the debate so that the "Viable" candidates got more speaking time, Because the producers of the debate might assume that viewers would rather see their candidate. It makes sense. But going off primaries, Paul is much more viable than Guiliani yet Guiliani got twice as much speaking time.
1/26/2008 2:23:48 PM
^It doesn't mean much because Guiliani will be the next to drop out, followed by Huckabee. They are both broke. I can see McCain, Romney and Paul going to the end.]
